My worry is from what i understand not too many Berners may it to the shows at Durack - and it seems there is no Berner club is Brissie - however i guess i can always lurk and even send an email or two asking when/if the local breeder/s are likely to attend?
-
I was also wondering if average litter size plays a part? eg for breeds where the smaller litter is the norm is it better getting in early (i agree tho that 5yrs early is going a bit far! ) and the other way around...for breed that the big litter is the norm is there a bit more leaway in regards to how soon?

Perhaps the belly band is worth looking into?

Ok...as a few about here already know since falling for a Berner i met in the flesh, and after reading more about them - i want one! Now I'm not being silly about it - partly because i already have two dogs and don't want a third in the pack unless the other two are old and decrepit So hence the 3-5yr plan...tho it will probably be closer to the 5yr plan then the 3 yr plan. I'm wanting a male puppy to show, with a commitment to show, train and go from there. I've saved the links to a bundle of breeders sites from which i really like the pics of their dogs, but thought i'd ask for the current opinion for how early should a person start contacting breeders, and how early do you ask to go on a puppy list? And then there is the thing of if there are say two sets of lines from different breeders you are really interested in do you ask to go on multiple puppy lists and let those breeders involved know? Or let logistics play a part in the decision, eg if i don't want to fly in a pup i limit myself to breeders i can drive to etc? Also how often are deposits asked for these days? is that a fairly standard thing?

Aaaahhhhh i remember that now I was a tad worried it might have been nasty...lol

Congratulations!!!

Saw Dogues x American Bulldogs yesterday in a known brissie place Hopefully these dogs can find foster carers - unfortunately i'm at my limit with my own mob -
I joined after a friend suggested it, and relly liked it - i did start a thread in which people ripped into - but i survived and stuck around...lol...that was a few years ago now!

I'd be getting a full vet check and then a canine behaviouralist (sp) to check him out to...and then go from there.

What's The Most Disgusting Thing Your Dog Has Done?
KitKat replied to Dame Aussie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've had my dogs try and share dead/half eaten possum with me - they won't share with each other but i get offered it! Blurk! -
The curash is fine even if the hotspot is manky...it will dry out the spot - even in bad weather i use it...just might have to reapply more often.
-
For my long coat GSD's i just use the curash - don't have to clip the coats and within 2-3 days the hotspot is completely gone

Uhm, why do you think the OP should pay the entire bill? If her dog had not been there, I doubt there would have been an injury. I agree with lorraine, people get talking to rellies, around the water cooler at work, etc. And can I add that situations and peoples attitudes can change. Currently going through a situation with a tenant which started out fantastic for about 5 years and has now turned sour. If the puppy didn't stick its foot under the fence it wouldn't have happened. Exactly...the OP's dog was in it's own yard, it's not like the dog was walking the streets or had broken into the neighbours property.

If it's any use i use the 42" softkrate for Bronx when we are out and about and he's got enough room to be comfortable, it at least folds a bit smaller then the 48". I was able to put the crate upright in the back seet foot well up along the backs of the front seats if that makes sense! Or just laid down in the back with the bedding over it and the dogs would lay on it. Shouldn't say 'dogs' - Bronx always sits in hte front passenger seat!
-
I occasionally use a remote trainer coller on my GSD's for this purpose but generally i put the boys to bed in their pens when i go to bed - then the possums are able to move around freely and the neighbours and i are able to sleep ETA - next dogs are being brought up with the cats so the dogs can sleep inside and still alert if people are about that shouldn't be - unfortuantely my GSD's and cats don't get on so the dogs are outside only now. The house we are in now isn't big enough to add crates anywhere like the last place

If anyone is still about - how long is the show expected to go for? Just got home so will set up the canister filter on my tank and consider if i'll head off or not - it's looking too threatening with the rain to mow...lol
-
Hmm... I'll see how today goes and might pop to the show tonight! The promised rain won't be too much of an issue? Going by the breed lists on DOL there are two Berner Breeders in QLD, however one is way up north so unlikely to be at Durack too often :D
-
I'll have to revisit this idea...lol...could end up being one BM and one Berner - showing could prove a handful tho...
-
I'm looking at going to the next all groups show at Durack...i think it's the 14/3? Hopefully i won't be working! Will anyone from here be going? I'm hoping to meet some Berners but it's also for an early attempt into researching the next dog/breed (that could prove to be plural...lol) - aiming for a potential show dog
-
I'm considering a Berner next- seriously check them out!!!
-
Hehe if i go down the track of a Berner it will be part of like a 5yr plan So price isn't an issue as such as i'd have heaps of time to save I'd be after a boy with show potential so i'm guessing perhaps around $2000 perhaps less or more depending on breeder arrangements - i did like the dabling in the show ring but i can't show the GSD coat type i prefer ETA - seems the next Show with all the groups at Durack is the 14/3 so i might pop down there if i'm not working
-
Tilly - try your local Leonards...but give them a call and ask if they can put aside 30kg or whatever...i ve brought trolly loads in the past usually packed into bags of 3-4 frames and all unfrozen? (that was at the store at the upper mt gravatt Target shopping centre tho) Worth a shot if nothing else.

Bump How much would a person expect to pay for a Berner these days? (from a responsible breeder of course ) As i wrote in the breed thread...
