  1. It's not selfish, and don't feel guilty for wanting a pure bred dog! If i came across a rescue dog that 'clicked' for me then i would seriously consider the dog - but in general my preference is for a pure bred dog/pup from a responsible breeder And there is nothing wrong with that. But also consider teenage or adult dogs from breeders as well, dogs that have been run on etc, and keep an open mind as we all know some fantastic pure bred dogs turn up in Rescue through no fault of their own
  2. I use Redgum Kennels for dogs and or cats...lol and have used them on and off for years for both the boarding and training Redgum
  3. Woohoo!!! I win!!! Is that a good thing tho?? Who'd have thought a woosie GSD would put teeth marks all thru a number plate...Honestly i treasure my car all the more for having his 'mark' on it - and then i remember that resale will be even crappier! I still think Teebs should win tho...my guy is special in what he does do...but At gets more points in consistancy
  4. Warming/cooking the food does tend to change and increase the smell of the food - could that be making difference?
  5. I was just going to add that The bones etc would have helped the muscles around the jaw etc which certainly helps And more importantly...that is one stunner of a Rott!!!
  6. My Sabre chewed my drivers side mirror and my number plate - managed to bend it out and screw it back on tho...it does have teeth marks through it...
  7. So the dog is 11months old before it is diagnosed with the entropian? Must admit...if it was me i'd not even have expected you to pay anything - i'd have informed you that it was happening just in case others in the litter had the same thing but not for paying vet bills! If the pup was under 6 months maybe.
  8. I just use Advantix - keeps the fleas, mozzies and flies away Muscaban is great too - but for my fluffy GSD's it just glugged up their ear fur!
  9. When you are considering the prices also look at it at price per KG and how much you'll need to feed. My guys have done well ont he UA/GB but i'm putting them back onto Royal Canin to see if i can kick the last of one of my guys allergies. However it isn't cheap, but half their diet will be meaty bones the bag will go a long way. But if you are or were buying Advance, then Proplan/Royal Canin/Nutrience etc aren't too differently priced and many will do deals of $20 off the large bags, or extra couple of kgs for the price etc - just keep an eye out.
  10. How thin did your dogs get? How much condition do you like your dogs to have? Can you feel their ribs? How thin did they get? - They lost muscle even tho they were doing as much exercise as usual. Due to their long fluffy coat that it wasn't visable but their lack of muscle and too easily felt bone was obvious to touch. I was already feeding way more then the recommended amounts before they got to that, and yes they were wormed on a regular basis (or more regular due to my thought it might have been the problem). I then doubled/tripled the amounts they were getting and gave up and put them onto Royal Canin 4800 as their base meal and meaty bones as well, within weeks they were back up to scratch. How much condition do you like your dogs to have? - I like to 'see' (mind the fur) the last rib or so and visually see (again mind the fur) a waist. Good muscle that can be felt if not seen, a tad of extra padding around winter as they eat more anyway, but it doesn't last long come the warmer months. Can you feel their ribs? Yes and without digging for them, other then through their coat. The only time not feeling their ribs was ever an issue was when One started stealing the others food - that was quickly stopped, and it didn't take long before weight was back to normal.
  11. Now if i was just talking Sabe - perhaps fair enough...but Bronx is a couch potato shepherd and he lost weight on barf - a weeks worth of food as per the book would be lucky to last 2-3 days. To me that's not quite working as it's supposed to, but that's just my opinion. I still prefer to feed them a combined diet and when i get my Berner i'll likely do the same but with advisement from the Breeder.
  12. Now my esperiance with a raw/by the book diet...was that i was feeding copious amounts of food to my GSD's and they were barely keeping weight on - certainly no money saving and as far as i was concerned no health saving either since they were having to eat so much to not even be in condition. I put them back on a high quality dry diet and they got their condition back and kept it up - not saying all high quality kibble got me that reaction (had same problem with Nutrience as i did with raw/barf). However - I've got them back on a high meaty bone content & high quality kibble based diet (minus live chookies here's hoping) and they are doing well on that. (Have to get Sabe back into to his old self after seeming to develop every known skin allergy under the sun after rolling in pumpkin vines)
  13. You can regularly adopt these chookies as well - tho it appears they turn up almost naked of feathers...so i'll take the time and set up my pen and then keep an eye out for some 'retired' ex battery hens to take over the yard after the main bit of winter is over. As long as the GSD's don't realise the chooks are covered meaty frames on legs we'll all be fine!
  14. I use Advantix - more to keep the flies off the GSD's ear tips but it keeps the midgies, mozzies, fleas etc away as well.
  15. Hehehe this isn't the first time this topic has come up....
  16. I thought you might guess. She has to give him a hand job. I was actually told to do that to Sabre the GSD as one of his testicles didn't drop - i was informed it should be done regularly and that will encourage the other one to drop. I got him desexed instead and going by where the other testicle was...it was never going to drop anyway
  17. Do you still have to pay a yearly permit fee on top of the dogs rego fees?
  18. You may not be convinced...but i was pretty convinced at the time - i was told i would have to have proof my dogs WERE NOT barking. Perhaps the ACO was on a power trip i don't know - doesn't change what i was told. The complainent doesn't need to keep a diary as such- however they are given another form which they have to tick the boxes as to when they hear barking etc - since their initial complaint was 'barking 24/7' it would be easy enough to just tick all the boxes. Also there was only cyclone fencing around my yard and the nearest ones...there is no where an ACO could hide without one of the nearby dogs seeing and setting all the dogs off. The complainent doesn't get in trouble, or even a wanring, for making false complaints - however the dog owner (i think i was the only one out of the nearby group with registered dogs so it MUST be my dogs barking) gets the scare, the threat and record.
  19. I've had the same experiance with supercoat and a complete raw diet (just with my dogs, don't have puppies etc) I've fed my dogs on Coprice but they didn't particularly like it. However they do very well on Uncle Albers etc adn Bonnie Working Dog - so that is what they get. I've regularly used ProPlan, Royal Canin etc and i think they are fab foods and will likely put my next dog on them while a pup at least (will be giant breed). But curently my guys are adults and get a mix of bones and kibble and some tinned food for their weeks diet - they do very wekk in regards to condition and there isn't huge amounts of poo to dispose of. Feed what best suits your dog.
  20. Yeah...i got given notice by letter and in person that my dogs were barking 24/7 - not considering they were inside from 6pm to 6am i'd have thought i'd have noticed they were barking! When speaking to the Council guy i was told i would need to keep a diary of when they were inside, when outside and when i heard them barking, i'd need stat decs from my closest neighbours - but that they'd be worth nothng as i could bribe or intimidate my neighbours, prefferably i should also set up tape recorders and or security cameras to record my dogs not barking through the day etc etc. They would also attend the property without notice to see if the dogs were barking. I would be given a 2nd letter stating that the dogs would have to be removed if i hadn't solved the problem, and if i got a third letter they would forcibly remove my dogs. The 2nd Council Officer i spoke to in person said that before outlaying any money i should wait to see if i got a 2nd letter as the complainent would have had to have complained a second time - which as it turned out they didn't. ETA - there was however a GSD two doors down who did bark alot on a regular basis, plus a another big dog across the street, a couple more next door etc etc..it was a very doggy end of the street...lol
  21. Lovely...just lovely As to the 'don't need to be perfect to be happy' one of my devons is like that - both head end and tail end are manky, he smells and even the vet can't work out why!, he has the memory of a goldfish, he hisses and freaks at the other cats when they surprise him by not doing anything and just appearing (mind you he may have been curled up next to them for the last hour), and every day is a new one for him...litterally everying is new and he's never seen it before...lol. I know he was a runt, but even the vet agrees Chaos' brain isn't fully devloped and the nasty bug he had when i got him didn't encourage further brain funtion...lol And the fact he has regular mini fits is just something to keep an eye on but they don't seem to bother him. But i love him to death and wouldn't give him up...even when he started pooing on the laundry floor for no reason, tho i'm glad he decided to stop that after two years, and the projectile vomiting isn't always a regular thing... Gotta love 'em!
  22. This is what i use too...you can use normal black tea as well - obviously as long as it's cooled! Works brilliantly for minor irritations (eg as a wash) and for conjunctivitis
  23. The ranger has to prove that it WAS your dogs not the other way around ( Thank god!!) or there would be people in trouble for everything! on the say so or guess of the community!! lol I guess all states differ slightly but in WA it is an offence to have a dog on a property that cant be contained, (inside the house is not generally acceptable) Unfortunately in Brissie it's the other way around...you have to prove it WASN'T your dogs barking/roaming/biting/whatever
  24. Advantix may be one of the few options - it does work very well for flies tho.
