Perhaps I worded my post incorrectly as it is the animal set up I was querying as far any illness that could be passed on.
-
Very complicated. This all came about after seeing a photo of an import in quarantine and another import in the next pen peering through the wire :-)
-
My thoughts are then that quarantine isnt about your import but about the country and this is fabulous but perhaps more thought should be given to the animals aswell who can have contact of sorts with others. I do know illnesses are passed on in there as I had a friend who imported a cat and the cats in the next area got ill within a day or 2 of arriving and then her imports were ill, airborne etc. But then I suppose as has been said its not about no light etc and the runs are on grass for the dogs.
-
Because Australia has a fragile ecosystem and we've had enough problems with imported diseases and pests. Yes this is true the point I was getting at was more on the animal perspective, that you import, quarantine and your animal is at risk from other animals who are sick

OK but given the dogs can lick each other etc if one of them had something it could be passed on not just KC. Are they not in there in case say for instance one has rabies? Now I know this isnt likley to happen but you import have to quarantine your dog IN CASE it has some underlying health issue not detected but the dog can sniff, lick, sneeze etc over dogs. I guess the thing I am quesrying is why we have to quarantine our imports given they are not really in quarantine, hope that makes sense lol I wondered this also when I looked at importing some cats. Having to pay this money for them to be in quarantine when they in fact are not in quarantine

Yes see I am not much of a reader, even at school I was a visual learner lol. I want to know how to operate my camera to the extent it can be used and also how to make pretty pics after I download them as in making a siggy, taking 5 photos and making them into one, how to add things to a pic like on a xmas card for instance having a pic of my dog and adding a tree, tinsel etc.

As the post suggests this is asking why we have to quarantine any dogs/cats etc when they come into Oz. Now I do know the reason but am asking as the dogs are in pens/runs that only have wire between them and other dogs, if I was paying to import I certainly wouldnt want another dog being able to sniff, lick sneeze etc all over my animal when ahving to pay what you do for them to stay in quarantine? I genuinely dont know why they make you do this when this is the situation, can anyone shed any light on it for me please? Edited to change subject line to what I intially meant :-)

The course is probably good value - but I'd suggest also look for your nearest camera clubs (photographic societies) they are only around $50 to join. And they usually run free basic classes for beginner groups for both camera work and photoshop work. Beginners are welcomed, you don't need to be an experienced photographer to join. didnt think of that thanks will check it out :-)

Ooo I went away on hols and forgot is there a place left at all B? -
Hasanyone done a course for Photoshop? The local college is offering a beginners course which runs for 8 weeks, $265 ( 3 hours once a week) Do you think this type of course would be beneficial for a numby like myself? Also does anyone know of any courses etc or have done any courses on how to use your camera? As some of you may know I have a 40D canon and want to learn more but dont really understand the book I am more of a hands on learner if you know what I mean

Is she scratching because she still has fleas, or because she has reacted to the bites, big difference. Did a check before still has fleas am going to stop and get some more capstar

Hi again spoke to son they ahve acerage and have fleas this time every year. Now they ahve bombed house, treated all dogs and house yard has been sprayed....they ahve garden lime but havent used it as were told it burns animals feet? So if they are using advantix on their dogs is there anything else they can use aswell to treat them for fleas since advantix isnt working, have sued capstar etc. Now as for my little miss who was treated on the weekend with permoxin rinse she is still scratching, have used capstar....I have advantix to put on her on the weekend since I forgot permoxin, if fleas are so bad my dog gets covered is there anyhting else that i can use on her besides the advantix? Or can I not use this spot on if I treated her with permoxin on the weekend (we are talking 7 days this Saturday) Thanks everyone for all your help thus far :-)

Can anyone tell me please with Advantix whether or not there is a waiting tme after washing before applying? It doesnt state anywhere on the box about washing before or after etc.
-
Can you catch them? A flea you can catch is a dying flea. You must have an infestation atm Keep at it, treat all the pets, bomb the house/car, spray the yard etc etc. Mmm I thought that too will be doing house on Thurs as we are away, have treated all other animals, have checked them and cant see any on them, havent been in car yet (new car lol) but they will on THurs so will spray it before and after. Yard will do when we get back. Poor buggers, no cant catch fleas too quick or Im too old and slow lol

RIghtio, not quite 24 hours since her bath/rinse and this mroning scratch scrath scrath..........fleas running all over her? Does it take a little while for permoxin to work?
-
Just given her a bath and in the final rinse I made up 1200mls (30mls permoxin) and poured it over her with the plug in the tub so she was standing in it and I just kept cupping it back up under and over her, she got a soaking. I have let her shake off excess and now have her crated to dry normally, is this the go or can you towel dry etc?
-
THanks everyone. Yes I use Capstar and Advantage not yet tried Neem Oil, just needed something for ticks since we are going on holidays up north in a couple of days, son had said Advantix hadnt worked on a few of the dogs in the area (north coast) ETS Am going to flea bomb the house whilst we are gone, well daughter is. We normally do this twice a year as a precaution now
-
Just back to the Permoxin, I have made it up 10ml to 400ml water in a spray bottle. Now do I saturate the dogs, just spray over their coat etc, do I comb it through? It doesnt actually say on the bottle just says spray dog? Also for rinsing do you still only use the 10ml - 400ml break down so if I wanted to rinse with 1200ml I would still only use 30ml Permoxin?

Advice / Opinions About Puppy Vaccination Schedule Please.

Thats the hard part I guess, the fact if you have to board your dog you have to have those vaccs with KC component and it doesnt cover all strains and even though you get them done doesnt mean they cant get it. -

It is a hard d to make, pros and cons. Yes some react and some dont. For me the thing was I was also training my dogs so they ahd to be vaccinated x 3 and with this club also yearly vaccs. We never thought we would kennel our boys either but we went to Melbourne and took them and they were kenneled, we are going away again next week and the boys will be kenneled so had to have the booster. With the pup I am not prepared to risk her getting parvo which is rampant around here apparently again, so the 3rd shot she will have. Thankfully she hasnt reacted to any of the first 2. I do find it unusual that a pup would react on the 3rd vacc and not the others though? Has anyone else had that happen at all? I know with my cats a vet I used gave my kittens an F5 when I had asked for F3 and they reacted to that (the F5) so I wasnt happy (they are alive) I guess it is like people too, some are allergic to certain drugs and cant have them but you dont know till you have it. As to what you should do, only you can make that choice, research as much as you can in the next couple of weeks and then make up your mind. -

I ahve to be honest i would rather not vac my dogs all those chemicals BUT given how much parvo has been about my boys will get boosters and the pup will get a 3rd vacc I couldnt stand it if she happened to get it and I know vac your dog doesnt mean 100% they will not get it but I dont want to take that risk. I guess at the end of the day you ahve to read and make up your own mind and what you feel comfortable with. I have vet friends who say 3 vaccs and its got nothing to do with money and then other vets say 2 vaccs. -

the second vac is given in case the pup's immune system didn't mount a challenge to the first vac. could be due to immaturity of immunne system etc. So if protection isn't provided by the first vac. the second vac will do that. Used to be thought that maternal immunity could over-ride the first vaccine, but it is now realised that the pup's own immune system must provide anti bodies. Consequently, the 2nd vac is only "insurance", and you don't really need 2 lots of "insurance". This is a very sketchy explanation, and you will find more information on this from Jean Dodds It is all very confusing to be honest as reading Jean Dodds vaccination schedule she doesnt say you dont need the 3rd but it is optional
