  1. Ok thanks thats great, I had 2 of my dogs DM done before the left USA (with OFA) rest were done here. I think it will try OFA for myself for the next ones.
  2. There is - OFA and CHIC. Not in Australia, but we can use it. My dogs have in fact just been used as a 'test case' for the entry of Australian health certifications. They decided to do this as there has been growing interest from Australia in using their database. All my dogs results are now listed on the database for people to view, and they are also CHIC certified. After a bad experience with an Australian DNA testing company, I now also do all my DNA tests for DM through OFA as well. ETA. you can see what the entry looks like for one of my dogs here: http://www.offa.org/display.html?appnum=1466783#animal Note there are still a few glitches in how the data is displayed to be ironed out for some of the results, but they are all there now. Espinay, How do we obtain the test swabs? Email OFFA? Do you need a vet to do the swabs to confirm the identity of the dog?
  3. As a kid we had a dog who was never desexed (never bred from, I have no idea why my parents didnt desex her) she lived to 17 no pyo or breast tumours. My sister had a rottweiler who was never desexed (never bred from, again dunno why she wasnt desexed) no pyo or issues. Lived to 11 died from abdo tumour. My first showing female was never bred and was 6 before being spayed, no issues dies at 8 from osteosarcoma. My first girl for breeding was bred at 2 did not get pregnant, bred at 2 1/2 didnt get pregnant (all done with prog's and semen checks) third time I tried frozen semen and pyo and spay....gah!!!! I have a bitch who has just turned 7 and has lost a boob from mastitis but is fine otherwise. She will be spayed shortly. my other sister had a pyo with the one stafford she left entire and she was spayed at 6 (she wasnt blue or bred from ;) ) I hope to hell I never have another pyo It was bloody awful.
  4. Oh thats bad Bisart Can you say what happened?
  5. Whoops here it is, hope you can see it. It shows a huuuuge stomach
  6. Here is a pic of my dogs X-ray taken 1/2 hour after his first attempt to vomit. He had GDV , lost his spleen and needed blood transfusions x2 but 4 days of intensive care and $8000 later he's fine thank goodness! When we got to the vet it was a junior vet and I had to demand that she see him as it was 10 pm on a Tuesday night and as soon as she saw the X-ray she said that 'there's less than 50% chance of survival with surgery and it is very expensive so we should consider PTS" Ummmmmmmm well doing nothing gives him 0% love!!!!! I spat it and she called in the senior vet thank goodness. That was 7 months ago.
  7. A friend had DNA testing for DM done in NZ, dam was carrier, sire was clear.....puppy came back at risk.........not possible! When the lab was questioned they questioned the parentage of the litter?! Breeder was 100% sure of parentage as done by TCI so now she has to pay for parentage as well to prove the lab was wrong (or the TCI catheter was dirty  ) Gaaaaaaaaaah! (Not GTG)
  8. Too hot on saturday for us Ive been really looking forward to my first shows of the year stupid hotness !
  9. Im sorry you are having this experience how worrying for you I have not had this happen (as yet ) but I have had friends it has happened to and once progesterone has been supplemented the litter has been safe. I believe both litters were born via caesarean.
  10. If you are able (and they have one) it would certainly be worth attending a National Specialty in the country of interest. This way you can see a whole bunch of dogs and meet the breeders / owners. I have been in my breed for 11 years and have imported 2 from NZ, 2 from Sweden and 2 from USA. I have visited many countries, World Show, Specialities O/S and a squillion hours of research and building friendships. Meeting the breeders makes it so much easier to be welcomed into their kennel/lines. Good Luck sounds exciting, you should have a look at NZ first though. If they have some nice dogs (I have no idea about paps :) ) it is easier and cheaper to visit there to see the dogs and meet the breeders.
  11. I am so shocked and horrified, your poor beautiful darling Buddy I am no groomer but I am well aware to never leave my dogs for even a second with a noose on..never ever ever, I only ever use them if one of them is being an ass anyway as I am scared of them being hurt. This groomer is a total disgrace. RIP darling Buddy xxx
  12. I breed berners and there are plenty of breeders around, Im pretty surprised you found a puppy in a pet shop....... Call breeders on dogzonline. thats the best way to do things, its odd you didnt get a single reply...... Good luck with your next puppy, persistent puppy people work well for me so no doubt for other breeders too, keeps you are the front of their minds :D It also makes us pretty confident we will hear from our babies owners in the long run too.
  13. Mid 20's is the cut off for my bernese, too hot for me especially I have generator with industrial fans, cool coats, shade mesh etc and used them when it was 22 degrees 2 weeks ago  Some dogs seem to still show a treat in the heat ..not mine though
  14. I have 2 aeolus pens but they are totally shit to fold up. They never end up flat like the c crate ones, i think we got wonky ones Goldenwei
  15. I know there has been issues with c-crate trolleys, wondering if the secura lens are still the same. I need 2 more sp9's and want to order them but thought I'd best check with those in the know
  16. Dont freak out if she yodels and carries on as he turns for the tie just hold her collar and make sure she doesnt try to run off with dog attached. Sometimes its quite a surprise to the girls. :)
  17. Are the results on the site I keep looking and they don't seem to be there
  18. Becuse it is THE best hands on way for you to learn the craft of judging. It is part of your education for becoming a judge. There is a LOT that you will learn as a breeder that will be VERY important to you becoming a judge and frankly it is not an experience or knowledge you can really get any other way. And frankly it is not something you will understand until you actually start getting some hands on experience. Start by actually getting in the ring and handling your dog. For one, you wont know how to be a good judge if you dont know what it takes to be a good exhibitor and learn the ring ettiquette yourself from both sides. Then start learning what it takes to actually BREED the dogs you will be judging. Which is not an easy or simple process Here is some reading matter to get you started. It will be important for you to read and UNDERSTAND and be able to put into practice (i.e. show through what you do that you know and understand it) a lot of the information in these books BEFORE you even consider judging dog, as it will form the foundation on which you make your judging decisions. http://www.dogwise.com/itemdetails.cfm?ID=DSH134 http://www.dogwise.com/itemdetails.cfm?ID=DSH160 http://www.dogwise.com/itemdetails.cfm?ID=DAN107 http://www.dogwise.com/itemdetails.cfm?ID=DSH170 http://www.dogwise.com/itemdetails.cfm?ID=DAN114 http://www.dogwise.com/itemdetails.cfm?ID=DSH153 http://www.dogwise.com/itemdetails.cfm?ID=DAN125 http://www.dogwise.com/itemdetails.cfm?ID=DG198 http://www.dogwise.com/ItemDetails.cfm?ID=DG208 http://breedingbetterdogs.com/details-breeding-dogs-to-win.php Certainly aim to become a dog judge eventually. It is a commendable goal. But don't expect to 'fast track' the process without putting in work to prove through your actions your worth to the dog world first. +1
  19. I have a dog who was separated from the bigger one but one day when my husband was home they were playing together and he was on the roof and big dog rolled onto 5mo puppy and broke a bonein his knee......best to be safe than sorry and keep her separated until at least 10 months. I drill this into mypuppy people if they have a bigger dog too (I have berners) I would also advocate desexing around 12 months. It should say in your contract what the breeder recommends re what they wish for timing.
  20. Everytime I look at this little fella it makes me want to say SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and giggle! He is so freaking cute!
  21. Is this law for all dogs sold including backyarders etc or just registered breeders?
