  1. Personally I'd prefer to keep her on the Super Premium Foods she likes rather than feed Hills! Think outside the square, does she like toys? If she will chew a hard rubber toy like a Kong that can help to keep her teeth clean too. No she doesn't like toys, totally disinterested. Might just have to visit the vet for regular clean and scale I think.
  2. Thanks everyone for the replies. We tried both the oral care and td biscuits tonight and she swallows them whole. Hmmmm
  3. Thanks for the reply. She used to eat Advance giant breed and that was massive too, but a flater kibble so not a lot of chewing done. She loves dry food of any description.
  4. We have a GSD who is 3 years old. We were thinking of trying Hills Oral Care or the veterinary diet Hills TD. When she was younger, she had papillomas in her mouth and since then she is very upset about having her mouth touched so it is impossible for us to brush her teeth. She will not eat bones of any description, we have tried chicken, roo, lamb, beef, turkey. All meaty bones, she just sits and looks at them. We have tried the more gimmicky things like Greenies, bull chews, rawhide etc and she wont eat any of these either. The only thing that she will eat is her dry food (which is Artemis or Holistic Select). She has been for a dental checkup at the vet and although there is nothing serious at the moment, there is a tartar build up and her teeth dont look like 3 year old teeth. I am willing to try the Hills dry food in an effort to maintain dental health and prevent serious dental work down the track. I understand that this wont do the job like a bone or brushing will but something that will improve her teeth and gum health a bit is worth a try in my mind. I am wanting to hear from others who have used either of these foods (or any of the other oral care foods) and your experiences. My friend is a vet nurse and uses it for her own little dogs and swears by TD but her dog's teeth were quite healthy to begin with. I can get Hills Oral Care at a very good price, but would have to pay full price for TD, I dont know if there is a huge difference between these that would justify me paying double the price for a bag of TD or not?
  5. Teamsnag, those are beautiful. Could you please pm me the cost for one and is there anywhere we can view a colour chart?
  6. I dont know what percentage of fat the vet has recommended but the lowest in the premium kibbles (available in all good pet stores) is Advance and Artemis, both 6% fat.
  7. Well I wandered into the new Petbarn that has opened up near me and I was suprised to see that they stock both Tucker Time and Scotty's rolls. How convenient for me!! And a much better price than what the vet quoted me. I got a mixture of both to try. They arent as dense as the Ecopet rolls but the dogs seem to like them.
  8. Which vet in Sunbury? This is very close to me and I am having a tough time finding anyone that stocks them in Victoria. I rang Tuckertime and they said they have a distributor for every state except Victoria
  9. Sounds good, I'll keep an eye out for them. Any idea on price?
  10. I am a long time Ecopet user but have recently seen that Scotty's dog rolls are now widely available in Victoria. There are also the Tuckertime rolls that apparently some vets sell in Victoria. Which is the superior brand? Ecopet works and we feed it because it is easy to find but if one of these other brands is superior in quality, I would like to try them out. Thanks!
  11. Just paid $174 with Jet Pets. Dogtainers were over $200 (I had my own carrier)
  12. It is because of breeders like that, that we get confused clients on a daily basis who dont know what to feed their dogs. I am so sick of breeders recommending Weetbix! What a mixture of crap, and how long does she expect you to be preparing your dogs meals for each day? Sounds like you will be there for hours every day.
  13. I apologise in advance for this being cat related. I need recommendations for EXCELLENT vet clinics in Victoria who are experienced in treating rarer problems than your everyday run of the mill vet would see. A friend has a cat who has seen many "local" vets but no vet can pin point what is going on with her and has suggested euthanasia. Thank you!
  14. Why not? Just wait and see until he's on 100% BH. The guide on the bag is just that, a guide. One of my dogs dropped an alarming amount of weight and my other dog who could eat anything and be perfectly fine had a reaction to something in it almost immediately. I think it is a fantastic food, with great ingredients and Sheryl does a wonderful job, it just isnt for my dogs.
  15. Well it didnt work for my dogs at all, bugger! Back to Artemis
  16. Expect to pay $800-$1,000 depending on the state the breeder is in. Run a mile from people charging more for "coloured" dogs or different sexes. Make sure the breeder is DNA testing for CEA, CL and TNS. Yes all 3, not just 1 or 2! Breeders should also be doing eye exams on their dogs and some breeders have started gonioscopy testing. Hips and elbows should also be xrayed.
  17. Ahhh stop it, you guys are making me want a Kelpie. Drooooooool
  18. Full story below. Links to photos HERE. Anyone who lives in or near Diggers Rest like myself will know instantly who this person is. Thank god that sad excuse for a human being is FINALLY gone. This is the same person who featured on the RSPCA Animal Rescue program earlier in the year. Shame on the Melton Council and shame on the RSPCA. "SQUATTERS have trashed a Diggers Rest house, leaving behind a trail of destruction and 53 unwanted pets. Animal rescue volunteers have recovered 30 cats, six dogs, 15 guinea pigs, a rabbit, and a goose from the derelict property on the Old Calder Highway. One dog has since had to be destroyed due to an untreatable skin condition. The remainder of the animals have been taken to the RSPCA shelter at Burwood. Diggers Rest resident Leone Downey believes a woman and two teenage children had been squatting in the property opposite Diggers Rest Railway Station for the past three years. Three months ago the owner of the property, who lives in Queensland, ordered the woman to be evicted. Western Suburbs Animal Rescue Service manager Nathan Miles was given written permission by the real estate agent to remove the animals from the house. Mr Miles said the house was in such a state of disrepair and smelt so badly that “a strong stomach” was needed to go inside. When Leader visited the house yesterday, animal faeces and straw was strewn throughout the house along with piles of rubbish, dirty dishes and stained clothing. The bathroom, where two dogs were found, was unusable with animal faeces smeared across the bottom of the shower. Some of the rooms could not even be accessed due to mountains of rubbish, while the indoor swimming pool was filled with sludge. Mrs Downey said two ponies, a llama, sheep and goat were also reportedly seen on the property but were not found. Mrs Downey claimed neighbours raised concerns about the number of animals and associated health risks on the property with Melton Council in February this year. “Neighbours have been reporting rats coming from the property and concerns were raised about the treatment of animals,” she said. “The council has been made more than aware about these concerns but tend to forget about us out here.” Melton Mayor Justin Mammarella said he was aware of the concerns but claims the council had done nothing about them were untrue. He said the concerns were brought to the attention of council’s local laws officers who referred the complaint to the RSPCA."
  19. I HATE dog parks and the owners at dog parks who always cry innocent until it is THEIR dog that gets hurt. Dog parks are a recipe for disaster. They attract so many different breeds who all play differently. Some very rough, some who prefer their own space, some who body slam, some who mouth, some who chase, some who "eye", some who steal other dogs balls and toys, some who hastle the submissive dog. I have seen sooooo many fights which could have been avoided if d*ckheads took responsibility for their own dog and didnt just let the dog off the lead to run wild, chasing children, rushing at other dogs and running so far away that the owner wouldnt have a chance in hell of controlling a situation that might occur. Apparently manners and common sense go out of the window because their is a sign that says "dogs allowed off leash". And yes, sorry im rambling. Just something that really peeves me. Although in saying this, these are probably the same people who let their children run wild in shops and have no control over them either. Now, I love these breeds and have owned them in the past, but after working in kennels for many years, I found the hardest dogs to kennel are Staffords, Am Staffs, ACDs (Backyard bred dogs). Everytime we would get one of these breeds in (especially Am Staffs), the staff would say "Ugggggh" ALWAYS Dog aggressive, noisy, anxious, nervous, hyper and unpredictable. And nearly always badly bred. I find most owners dont go to registered breeders for these breeds because they are so readily available and in the case of Staffords, there are even registered breeders who I wouldnt buy from! Am Staffs do make me think twice about whether I should cross the road. Unfortunately they attract the wrong owners. Being in the pet industry I see dogs like this daily. I can always pick the people who own the "big tough" Staffords before I even have to ask  No wonder these dogs have a bad rep, you only have to look closer at most of the owners. EFS
