  1. Does anyone know if there was a photographer at this show?
  2. Hi all, I have a sick dog who I have been told (on vet advice) must have probiotic powder added to her diet on a long term basis. I can access Blackmores PAW Probiotic Powder at a very good price so naturally would like to try this. Is this a good quality probiotic like Protexin? I dont want an airy fairy product that isnt going to do the job so thought I would ask here incase any of you dolers have used it before.
  3. My Borders are all on Nutro, and are thriving on it - we are more than happy with it. It's the best dry food we've used. The dogs also get meat, chicken carcasses, veggies, sardines, eggs, suitable leftovers. We avoid dry foods that have 'meal' in them, and in the hotter months we avoid lamb / mutton as the dogs get hotspots when they eat it. Why would you avoid foods with "meal" in them? It is the meat with water already extracted. Some foods list meat as "chicken" (for example), this is the meat before the water is extracted so it isn't a true weight and once the water is taken out, it would sit lower on the ingredients list. I don't know where this myth about "meal" started but it is something we should look for in dog food ingredients.
  4. Thanks guys, the information is very helpful. I will discuss IBD with my vet. Persephone - no a faecal sample hasnt been taken yet, I was going to do it yesterday but the vets were closed. I am waiting for him to poo today and if it is a sloppy one, I will take it into the vet.
  5. Hello, I am hoping someone has heard of these symptoms before or has a direction to steer me in because I am not sure what is going on with my young dog. He is a 12 month old ball of energy, always happy and bouncing around with a toy in his mouth but over the last couple of months he has started to have "off" days. I cant pinpoint when they started but have noticed that they are becoming more frequent. He will be happy one day and do normal poos, then the next day he will look very sorry for himself and very uncomfortable like he is having stomach cramps and his poo will be a jelly consistancy and sometimes has blood in it. This will happen on and off throughout the day, he will be looking ill one minute, and then perk up the next. Then the next day he will go back to being himself and have normal poos again. This will happen on and off and I have no clue what is triggering his tummy upsets. Last Monday I took him to the vet because he didnt feel well all day and was straining to poo. She felt him over did a rectum exam, took his temperature (which was normal) etc and put it down to a sore tummy. She said to give him peptosil until his poo firms up but within hours he was back to his usual self again and poo was solid. I had noticed it flare up badly when I switched him to Vets All Natural complete mix about a month ago, I spoke to Dr Bruce and he suggested it was Collitis. Unfortunately I had to put him back onto his dry food which I know he can tolerate and it fixed his poos and tummy upsets right away however, after about a week, they are appearing again. This dog LOVES food but has been known to have a sensitive tummy in the past (eg; he cant eat raw chicken of any form or has vomiting and dioherria) I am wondering if perhaps he needs to try a Veterinary line dry food for a while? The poor boy has started to stop eating if he is feeling unwell and this is NOT like him. Please help! The vets dont seem to know what is going on and think I am overreacting.
  6. I am using the rolls available at Woolworths but was really hanging out for the sensitive skin, puppy etc rolls that will be available soon in pet stores. Can you tell me the difference between these and the rolls at Woolworths? Are the ones which are going to be available in pet stores a superior quality roll?
  7. Thanks for the suggestions, at the moment he is getting plain mince for brekkie but I just thought that I may be feeding him too much meat and therefore unbalancing his vets all natural by feeding him mince again at night with the complete mix. I might give him a slice of Ecopet for brekkie instead of the mince since that has the meat, bone and veg already in it.
  8. One of my dogs doesnt tolerate dry very well so he was recently swapped to Vets All Natural complete mix + meat and does great on it. He is fed twice a day as he is a dog who is always hungry and active and will has been known to vomit bile unless fed 2 meals a day. He is getting the Vets All Natural at night because it is convenient for me to let it soak in water while im at work and I can come home and serve it right away. I am after ideas for breakfast. He cant tolerate bones, he gets quite crook in the belly, even if it is bones like chicken necks. I am wanting to stick with something natural since he is on a raw diet and it needs to be something easy because I am rushing to get to work in the mornings so need something that doesnt take preperation time. Any ideas?
  9. Sending you and your boy positive thoughts and hugs. If you have been through the old IMHA threads no doubt you have probably seen mine. Not an easy disease but there have definately been dogs that survive it.
  10. Its not so much 'wet' but more the presence of water triggers the grains to begin the sprouting process. You can add more water if your dog liked it sloppier, but just make sure your stick to the same amount of CM you have been using to maintain the body weight. Thank you! Glad to know I can add more water, makes it easier to mix with meat when its a bit sloppier.
  11. I am trying to find what I would describe as a show trolley basket. I see them hanging on the end on peoples trolleys used for holding grooming sprays, brushes etc. The ones I have seen are not flimsy baskets, they are solid, made out of metal. Where would I purchase one of these? Thanks!
  12. This may seem like a silly question but I am feeding 2 dogs on this. One gets 55g mix/ 55ml water the other gets 115g mix/ 115ml water but it hardly seems like enough water, it barely covers the dry mix. How "wet" does the mixture need to be to properly ferment? I have been adding an extra splash of water to add a bit more moisture.
  13. I am finishing off the tub on a different dog, wasn't cheap so I don't want to waste it
  14. Wow this thread is making me realise just how many myths and false statements joe public actually believe. Working in the pet industry I hear it all. One I get all the time is "But I cant feed my dog RAW meat, he will get a taste for blood and turn into a nasty dog" Some people really are stupid! I often get "Is that a Miniature Collie" "No! Its a Shetland Sheepdog" "Oh, they are the timid ones" "Well clearly you havent met mine!" Oh and "Wow you must have a lot of land if you own Border Collies" "No, I dont" "But dont your dogs go crazy, they need sooooo much exercise"
  15. Well we have been using it for nearly a month now, using the recommended amount daily. My dog has lost coat!! (double coated breed so very easy to tell - and no not due for a coat drop, this is a young dog who should be coating up at this age). I have noticed no difference in coat colour, but this dog always had a vibrant coat so I wasnt expecting to see a change in colour. We have 1/4 of the tub left and will be finishing it off and going back to Omega oil. Not saying it isnt a good product, just did nothing for my dog
  16. Sway, I received mine today. Fantastic fast service so thank you. Can't wait to try it
  17. A new clothing store on facebook. Pre-loved show clothes Ringdress
  18. You'll have to meet my new little Hamish!! Let me know if you're showing somewhere local in the near future and I'll bring him to visit!! Hamish!!??!!?? A Border I presume? Where from etc ......I need photographic evidence ;)
  19. Thanks Nekhbet. On their website it says it contains no corn or wheat but in their leaflet that I picked up at a pet store it said it contains wheat gluten. Will have to check with them on that.
  20. Hello, it's Daisy... Long time no see!! You are more than welcome to meet up at some shows with me if you like. You can do all of the reading in the world but I think the only real way to learn is to go to a show and actually watch the judging whilst having someone explain it to you. If you don't know what you are looking at, it can be very confusing :)
  21. Hi all, Am hoping to hear from people who use or have used Royal Canin Energy 4800. My dogs are eating Royal Canin Sensible but I was thinking of trying Energy out. It is recommended for show and working dogs but I am worried it may give my show dogs too much excess energy as they are not overly active. I am not worried about the fat content because I can adjust their feeding amounts accordingly. There are several reasons I am wanting to try it including that I can get it at a good price. Please share any experiences.
  22. All of my dogs LOVE any type of bitter bite spray, they lick lick lick and ask for more!!!
  23. Why not try Big Dog BARF? It is already prepared for you and nutritionally complete. Protein levels start at 12.5% in their range.
  24. We werent happy with our dogs coats after trying many things so switched them to a diet of Holistic Select Anchovy, human grade turkey mince and Vets All Natural Omega Blend about 6 weeks ago. They have come leaps and bounds and their coats are stunning, thick, intense colour and shine. This combination is working very well
