Hi I did a search but didnt find anything. I know of people who feed Vegemite to their dogs and I just found an almost full jar in the cupboard which is nearing its useby date. I was wondering if its ok to give my dogs a tiny bit in their dinner each day? Does it have any advantages to a dog's diet? Thanks

Collie/border Collie People - In Here Please!
Lemonlime replied to Shepherd Lover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use Interceptor instead of Sentinal because it is half the price and my dogs rarely get fleas. -

Alternatively there is a DNA test out there now that enables you to see if your dog has the ivermectin sensitivity. Yep there sure is -

Interceptor Spectrum is what we use. Used to use Sentinal but it got quite pricey. -
Which Dog Food Brand Is Better
Lemonlime replied to animallover12's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I feed my dogs/cats Advance and checked out the price of Optimum and Purina One out of curiosity in Safeway today. They are the exact same price as Advance, which is a premium food! If all you have access to is Eukanuba, Hills or Iams, choose either Euk or Hills and dont worry about it. They are still premium foods and much better than the supermarket crap. -

Need Some Help With The Clicker
Lemonlime replied to Lemonlime's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Wow, thanks everyone Some great advice that has been taken on board. I must say, I have never seen my pup so enthusiastic as she is when she hears that click, and she is picking it up so fast. Tonight when I got home from work, I retested her to see if she really caught on yesterday, and sure enough, she did sit, shake hands, and drop for me :D I am having lots of fun with the clicker and am so proud when she offers sit, shake or drop to me, so it wont be going in the bin just yet -

Need Some Help With The Clicker
Lemonlime replied to Lemonlime's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks for taking the time to reply Arya :D I have been using verbal praise as well as the clicker, I find it helps to hold her attention. If she offers the behaviour im after, I say "YES", click and food reward. (Not sure if that is right, but it seems to be working ok). I am doing 2 x 5-10 minute sessions per night and have been working on sit and drop, but thought I would introduce shake hands, as she seems to offer it easily. If you had any more tips for me, going on the info I have given you, I would love some :D -
Here is another great one. Makes me dizzy :D

I have a 4 month old pup who starts obedience training on Sunday. For the first time ever, I am attempting positive reward training using a clicker (used to use check chains). I am having lots of fun and my before unmotivated pup is quite enthusiastic about clicker training. Before every session (which is kept short), I charge the clicker. She learnt sit in 2 minutes but drop took quite a bit longer. She has finally got the hang of drop and is offering it to me now. I would like to keep going and move onto shake hands (which she has offered before and was rewarded). She seemed to be picking up what to do and offered me her paw several times, and click and reward. But I am finding that she seems confussed and because we have practiced drop so much, that is what she keeps offering to me. How can I get her to stop offering me drop everytime? :D Ahhh im new at this clicker stuff, but I must say it is lots of fun and pup seems to love it.

Good to hear. I am on a budget too, which is why I switched to Advance. At $79 for a 20kg bag, I found it to be the cheapest premium and value for money. Never expected such good results

Absolutely amazing, brings a tear to your eye

Hi all, I rarely hear anyone talking about or recommending Advance. After trying LOTS of different brands over the years (Eagle Pack, Nutrience, Pro Plan and Royal Canin to name a few) I have recently started feeding Advance (about 2 months ago). I can happily report that all 4 dogs love the food and are thriving! Before, my Shepherd was having trouble keeping weight on and my Borders were less than impressed with other dry foods, they would pick at it, leave it and come back to eat it later, sometimes. Now I put their bowls down and it is gone in a flash. I will also be raising a litter on the Rehydratable soon. I give a LOT of raw food too, but like to feed dry a couple of days a week. Does anyone else here feed or has fed Advance? I would love to hear reports good or bad

Which Grooming Brush Should I Use ?
Lemonlime replied to andoria2007's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use something called a Shedder on my German Shepherd, it is amazing!! Took out twice the amount of hair as a comb. -
Our Borders get Interceptor Spectrum. Covers everything except fleas. I find this the cheapest and easiest way to cover worms and heartworm.

Helen, Your latest babies are to die for. The most adorable things!!
