Piper - I know!! The poopers are growing so fast and I have no photos I could settle for the D80 and get it now...just would have preferred to have gone all out for the D90 D90 is apparently due this month some time but there could be delays

Well I have decided to get the Nikon D90...sooo hoping it comes out soon because my Fujifilm camera broke this week ;) I have contacted a few places who said I would be guaranteed one if I place a deposit which is good.

Thanks so much to everyone for the help, advice and PMs...you have all given me a lot to think about, so back to researching for me

Thanks for the tip, I will certainly do that. I am getting the camera duty free (parents are travelling) which is why they are cheaper at the camera warehouse. I can't believe this post is up as I am going through the exact same decision myself. I have ended up going for the canon EOS 450D with the enthusiast lens kit. Everybody I know that is a photo busff told me that any body $1000+ will be good as long as it is comfortable it is the lens that makes the differance. The enthusiast kit is supposed to $1999 but dig camera warehousr do it for just over $1600 with a 3 year canon warranty which you won't get if you import or buy a grey import. Goldielover, will PM you now. Luke, I am really leaning towards a Nikon...also from the digi camera warehouse in Melbourne!! Their prices are fantastic

There is a Camera Warehouse near me who sell the Nikon D90 with lens for $1,489 http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/prod5414.htm Any camera buffs be able to tell me if this is a good deal or not? A basic lens is fine for me to start on, as I will be learning how to use the camera and can upgrade the lens later, but I also dont want a sh*t lens...what do you think of the lens it comes with?
-
Wow you guys are awsome!! Thanks to everyone for the PMs and help. I have pretty much narrowed it down to the D80 or EOS 450D. I think the D90 is a bit out of my range. I looked on Teds Cameras for an example of prices and you can buy bodys or kits...I have no idea how good the lenses are that come in the kits, probably nothing special.

Thanks Kja, is a "body" the camera as it is without the fancy lenses? :nahnah:
-
Thanks very much Tess :nahnah: I am leaning towards a Nikon because I have 2 friends with D70s...still not sure. For those who have Nikons and Canons, which do you find easier to use?
-
I gotcha Ruthless No idea about lenses! In that case, can anyone recommend the best Canon and Nikon cameras within my price range and give me some photo examples?

I am upgrading to a DSLR and would love to see photos and opinions on the best cameras for dog photography. That is action shots etc My price range is $1,000-$1,500 I am looking at a Nikon D90 (which comes out in October and a little out of my price range), D80, Canon 450D... I know that the D90 is the newest in the Nikon range, but I really dont know the difference between cameras. I am hoping to see photographs so that I can compare. I am also looking for a camera that takes relatively good shots without me having to buy lots of different lenses to get what I want. I really have no idea where to start, this is all very new to me

We are on our second bag. Our ever fussy GSD scolfs her food down now which is amazing because we have tried just about every premium food on the market and she normally picks the kibble up and spits it out. I think it is well priced also. We used to feed Advance (which was good) but we can no longer get it for free so I figure if im paying for dog food now, I want to pay for the best available. Will slowly be changing the other dogs over as they keep trying to steal it off the GSD

Hello, I have been reading all of the discussions going around about Orijen and Artemis kibble and the high protein (42% from memory) concerns. I havent really come to a conclusion after searching the threads, some people believe that if the protein is coming from high quality meats, there is no problem feeding a high protein food to young dogs, and others are undecided or confussed. For those of you who have chosen to feed some of these new high protein kibbles as a MAIN diet (not just training treats or a handful here and there), do you feel confident feeding it to puppies as young as 8 weeks? Have you discovered anything new in your research on high protein and growth rates? How are you finding the results on these foods?

Oh Mel, I am sooo sorry for your loss It sounds like Buffy was here for a good time, not a long time and I bet she lived a great life!!

Jules, got the samples from the Pro Plan rep in Western Victoria.
-
I read that they dont use GROUND corn.
-
Eaglepack First Ingredients (Lamb) Lamb Meal, Ground Brown Rice, Ground White Rice, Chicken Fat (Preserved With Natural Mixed Tocopherols), Oatmeal. Pro Plan First Ingredients (Turkey) Turkey, brewers rice, pearled barley, chicken meal (natural source of glucosamine), corn gluten meal, oat meal. Seem similar, corn is the only real difference and Pro Plan has 2 meats in the first few ingredients.

For those that didnt know, Pro Plan Select is now in Australia. It is a natural alternative to Pro Plan and looks quite good. http://www.proplan.com/products/selects.html We got samples of the Turkey/Barley, Salmon and Brown Rice and Lamb/Oatmeal and my fussy dogs loved them.

Canine Papilloma Virus? How Bad Is It?
Lemonlime replied to Kirislin's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My German Shepherd bitch had a Papilloma in her mouth. We were told because of the place it was, it could not be removed. It didnt spread and eventually went away. I was told it wasnt contagious and none of my other dogs were affected. -
Thanks everyone, will pass on the info
-
I wouldnt give mine the heartworm injection either. No she didnt misunderstand the vet, thats definately what she said. Thanks for the info
-
Did a search but couldnt find an answer. I am enquiring on behalf of a friend. She hasnt heartworm treated her dogs in over 6 months. They are Mini Foxie/Jack Russell type dogs. She was told by her vet that Advocate is fine to use on the dogs without getting a heartworm blood test done first. She said that you only need the test done when you give your dogs the heartworm injection. She is worried about this as she has heard mixed views. Can anyone enlighten me?
