  1. Sorry I forgot to mention. This is for raw foods :)
  2. 1..2...3....go! Just doing some research for a dog food project and would love to know your thoughts!
  3. I haven't read the other posts but wanted to share my experience. I have a dog to suffers from colitis flare ups. He can't have raw chicken, fish, roo or bones of any type. If he eats any of these things he becomes a very sick little dog with explosive bloody stools, vomiting and you can see he is in pain with very bad belly aches. He was on a prescription diet and probiotics for 6 months before I slowly introduced normal food to him. He hasn't had any problems for the last 12 months and now eats a diet of Fetch It Fresh Beef BARF and Canidae Pure Sea. It is a matter of finding out what triggers the colitis and steering clear of all foods that upset the dog. None of my dogs get bones because I can't risk him digging up a buried bone. I can't recommend probiotics highly enough!!!
  4. Yes I know, sadly none of them have similar ingredients to this. I understand you have to be extra careful with your dog's diet though.
  5. Cavnrott, I would have assumed that animal fat (or in this case chicken) is in most if not all dry dog foods? This particular food from memory is 14% fat so I wouldn't call it fatty. I actually purchased some because I was looking for lower fat options for my little piggies :)
  6. Thanks sas, I thought you were meaning there is something bad about those ingredients
  7. Excuse my ignorance sas but what is wrong with chicken fat and pork meal? I got a couple of bags for my dogs, so far so good. My 'delicate' dog who is very sensitive to chicken and fish proteins has had no digestive problems at all :)
  8. So came across this in the local shop https://www.holisticselect.com/product.aspx?pet=dog&cat=5&pid=83 Deboned Turkey and Lentils with NO potato and grains. Thought I would share for anyone looking for a grain free food that doesn't have potato in it as I am unaware of any others.
  9. Ok thanks for the info. I guess my friend was wrong about it being a new standard. Was just interested as I heard America has strict standards for pet food but Australia there are not as strict regulations.
  10. Hi all, I have been told that there are new (not sure exactly how new) standards/regulations for producing and labeling pet foods and meat in Australia. I always thought that we didn't have standards here so was interested to have a read. Does anyone know where you would find these new standards? The only info I can find online is a standard that you have to pay for in order to view which is odd. I don't think many pet owners would pay for them! Also do pet food and meat companies have to comply with these standards or are these just guidelines?
  11. Thanks Sags but the small/medium Advance dental have peices that my dogs would hoover down and the large breed only comes in a bigger bag. My dogs won't touch Eukanuba.
  12. That's assuming the dog chews it of course :)
  13. It was a vet who recommended I add a few pieces Danois and he has other patients who do the same. He is confident it will make a difference.
  14. I went and purchased a bag of RC Dental today. Mixed results. 2 dogs chew it and the dog I really wanted it for inhales it and he is only a small breed! Does anyone know if the TD bits are larger?
  15. Thanks very much for all of the replies :) Plaque off may be good but because we have a few dogs that drink quite a lot each day I don't think it would be as cost effective as adding a few bits of dental kibble to the dog who can't have bones dinner. Pie, that is great feedback thank you! Sags, the Advance Dental comes in a huge bag and because I only want to add a few pieces into the current food each day I think it would last me years.
  16. Hi all, I just want to start by saying that I am not looking for suggestions of bones, treats or toothbrushes that will aid dental health. My dog can't have bones of any description and I have tried the rest. I am wanting to know who here feeds either Royal Canin Dental or Hills TD? Would like to hear your experiences. I am looking to add a dental kibble to my dog's existing diet (and in conjunction with healthy dental treats which are already fed) but not use it as a sole diet. Royal canin is a brand I trust, I am not a huge fan of Hills or it's ingredients but have only really heard about people using the TD. My dog's teeth have minor tartar build up, nothing alarming but I am wanted to add something that may help with dental health since bones aren't an option for this dog and my vet agrees. Thanks :)
  17. I can highly recommend the Royal Canin Hypoallergenic, brilliant stuff. My allergy dog never looked or felt better than when he was on this food. The proteins are hydrolysed so that the body can't recognise them as an allergen. I don't like Hills products for my dogs so the Z/D was never an option for me.
  18. http://www.4legs.com.au/vetpro5.php New product, looks good. The pooches love it added to their dry food (although they would eat anything really LOL)
  19. Just wondering how many of you give tinned food as a part of your dog/s regular diet? I know PAL, chum etc are a NO NO but there are now brands like Holistic Select, Canidae, Artemis who make tinned food with (what seem like) good ingredients (some even grain free). For example, here is the ingredients list off Canidae Pure Sea: Salmon, salmon broth, ocean fish, chicken liver, chicken, potatoes, peas, carrageenen, guar gum, locust bean gum, flaxseed oil (source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids), dicalcium phosphate, salt, potassium chloride, suncured alfalfa meal, calcium sulfate, lecithin, sunflower oil (source of Omega-6 Fatty Acid), beta-carotene, sage extract, rosemary extract, cranberries, yucca schidigera extract, choline chloride, taurine, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, vitamin E supplement, copper proteinate, sodium selenite, manganese proteinate, niacin, calcium pantothenate, vitamin A supplement, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin supplement, vitamin B12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, vitamin D3 supplement, folic acid. Are the better tinned foods really a bad addition to dry food?
  20. Thought some people would be interested in this article on Royal Canin http://www.forbes.com/sites/marcbabej/2013/05/29/dog-food-made-from-feathers-a-win-win-for-royal-canin/
  21. As clearly stated, this poll is for people who FEED dry food.
  22. We need to set up a row of concreted dog runs on our new property. It will be in a non shaded area so we will need to look into shade solutions and attaching sheds to the runs. I want the runs to be attached to a large grassed exercise area. I could really use some inspiration and ideas. We want practicality and SAFETY on a budget. We will be getting someone to build these, there is no way I would even attempt it  Can anyone post photos of their kennels/dog run set up?
  23. GROUP 5 BIG - Belgian Tervuren RUBIG - Border Collie BABY - Australian Shepherd MINOR - Pembroke Corgi PUPPY - Puli JUNIOR - OES INTERMEDIATE - Australian Kelpie AUS BRED AND OPEN AS PER BIG/RUBIG
  24. I havent read the whole thread but my young boy has had very similar symptoms. The vet thought it may be a form of IBD or Giardia. We never did get a definate diagnosis but he was put straight onto Royal Canin Hypoallergenic and it fixed him right away. We tried to reintroduce his old diet after 8 weeks but his bloody stools and vomiting came back so he was quickly put back onto the RC Hypoallergenic and we havent had 1 bad poo since. The food has been a blessing for my boy who was quite sick, and like your girl, would be fine one day, and the next day he would have bloody stools and stomach cramps so it was hard to get him to the vet at the right time. ETA: Our boy gets Vets All Natural Omega Blend and PAW Probiotic in his dry food now which has helped a lot but he cant have bones or treats of any form because he reacts almost right away.
