Hi redkidsmum could you PLEASE post this in the Poodle thread: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...p;#entry2606212 as I'm sure you'll get some knowledgable advice from people that know the breed best wishes, Rivkeh

I've never tried chicken livers but am using lamb liver cooked, for treat training. Have you tried cooking them for her? You could make chicken liver pate with the half kilo--I've made it and its easy with a food processer, and yummy, that is if you eat pate

Not sure where you are, but Animal Antics in VIC sells it, they are usually at the shows I got a litre of shampoo from them for about $28

Yes, I would rather have a tough one than a shy retiring timid one any day, as you said I just have to find her "on" button thanks pebbles. I have tried roast chicken, roast lamb as well as dried liver, dried lamb as bait-she is very ho-hum, but maybe she needs to be quite hungry first.

yes, I think if I can channel this headstrong attitude, she'll work very proudly in the ring, I have to find her 'spot' I'll try that, but on lead

My bad, I breed em tough Cant fool you PF Rory is more stubborn than mine here, but i guess I have trained mine at a young age so thats helped. She is a very independant bitch which is very head strong. She can be taught, I wore her down before she wore me down As I said Riv, if you think she needs the vet again do it for your own piece of mind, but when she done it to me its because she was determined to get her own way. Siv this morning did the continuous circles clockwise and anticlockwise. She pulled, coughed gagged, dry reached and glared at me when her head wasn't down with all that (by that I mean just staring back not taking her eyes off me). I kept going, but she wasn't even responding to my voice, she just fought me harder and harder. At one point she literally dug her heels in and pushed her front feet out so hard like putting the brakes on. I'm getting some fresh liver today to cook it and try that as bait.

Thanks again PF Yes, I need to show her much more that I'm the boss Yes she loves a game, but her recall is unreliable, maybe on a long lead until recall improves? She does stack, its just she pulls her head and body sideways against me, but she holds the stack quite well, and I'm working on getting her holding for longer and longer. Just not sure what you mean about the stacking and gaiting on cue
-
in stacking? Yep, stacking? my forefinger doubled inwards and under the the hollow part of the jawbone pulling her head upwards, not sure how else to explain
-
in stacking?
-
stacking is not the problem shes not bad although still headstrong--it's the lead work
-
YES constantly good girl c'mon Rory--etc high pitched as she loves that edit to say: she loves that but still carries on
-
she is very blase with treats---this girl follows me everywhere, she gets LOADS of attention from me loves being handled, picked up cuddled smooched So what's different about gaiting and stacking.. are you nervous? oh she still tries it stacking--pulls head so far sidewaysmy hand shakes to pull it back into place I'm not nervous when I'm working with her, but I am new to this
-
with no pressure--for me she pulls sideways-crabs? and pulls head down. Changing pace she quickens doing the same thing

Posting for any advice here please I have been doing lead training for showing with my 5 1/2 month old mini poodle bitch Rory for the last 4-5 weeks. She is my first show dog, we have our first show in 2 weeks. Having lots of problems with leads. Have tried flat collar, martingdale x 2, fine chain, slip lead and a light nylon other type. Rory is gagging, pulling, coughing. I ended up taking her to the vet last week and they diagnosed a mild case of tonsilitis, she had a weeks course of antibiotics. The scenario goes---problems of pulling gagging, very strong head pulling down--I can feel this when I stack her too-- coughing and staring me down, when I growl at her. I had been thinking there was a problem with a lead, then getting a new one, she's great for half a day then this again. I'm getting to the point of despair with this, I'm firm with her and consistent, but now feeling like I'm just pulling her around most of the time. I do treat training and she is blase about that, also having trouble getting her to look up at me after up and back and stand. I took her to see our breeder who had to do some things for her, she says Rory is a very headstrong bitch, she saw a lot of proof of it ...any advice would be appreciated! Thankyou
