Be careful assuming this. I've had images that were WAY less than 1MB published and printed them 8x12 and they came up far far nicer than I expected. I've seen four of my larger files (still under 1MB by a good margin) - before I started putting up 100kb or so size - printed to 8x12 from a discount lab (Walmart in this case) and there's just nothing wrong with them at all. The printers are getting better and better and good paper is becoming more common in "consumer" labs and in personal homes. Now, the longevity of these prints remains to be seen and prints from a pro lab still have that certain something that makes them stand out...but ...

I dunno then, mine is only faded to 30% or so I think. Maybe just explain why it's there more clearly and make sure to make a point of explaining it at the time of booking when you talk about how they will view the images? I let them know at the first contact that proof images are marked with PROOF and everyone seems groovy with it so far.

Clients have their own galleries and the word PROOF is across the middle of every image, but faded. You can see what I do by going in to the client log in area of my site and hitting any of the galleries. The client can see more than enough detail to determine if that image is what they want to have printed. For blogging and the like I use the bar with my logo, name and web site - just like I post here.

Ash - have you looked into finding a used 5D? From the guys I know who have both, they aren't letting the 5Ds go and use them just as much as their new 5DIIs...but lots of people are letting them go for a song. I considered a used 5D but am on a time crunch so didn't spend any time looking. In real life use the newer 5D is only just nudging out the low light performance of the original and by most accounts that nudge is so slight it's barely worth mentioning. And this is what I'm being told and shown by people who are notorious at getting people to spend way more money than they need to so it's kinda weird to have them nudging me that way!

winterpaws - they look great!!! love the second one in particular. Isn't LR easy!! I am moving back to photobucket as I can't justify spending $25US a year just to host my images really. I'm a cheapskate. And I resize my images for the web before uploading anyway so I can't tell the difference between the embedded versions on flickr or photobucket (although if it's something I have actually remembered to sharpen I don't really like the way flickr seems to add even MORE to it sometimes). Photobucket has a greater free allowance and it's also SO much freakin' easier to use with everything you need right there on one page. And blogging is a dream because on Photobucket the code stays the same and the only part that changes is your file name so it's copy, paste and then just change the last couple of digits for me...flickr has a secret code for each and every image so it's select the photo, go to all sizes, copy the secret code, repeat for every single image. Blech. They've lost me at least for now.

chezz - gorgeous area! Ruthless - I love your mobile TN - I had to laugh at your secret interpretation, love it. The photo is great so it was definitely the right choice to pick up the camera first, I reckon!

Tree ... our pawpaw that Til keeps trying to destroy is doing pretty well again, cross fingers here! And a palm tree Left behind ... poor Pink Bear Secret ... it's no secret what these two are thinking

Before rushing out and committing to a course, have a good play ... it's pretty amazing at what you'll be able to figure out on your own. There are also excellent sites on the web for lightroom - here are a couple to get you started while you decide on what courses you want to do! Lightroom Killer Tips - this is great because they update constantly! Luminous Landscapes - their video section is very helpful, as are the articles There's a woman on POTN who rocks Lightroom and is extremely helpful ... I think she has a web site, too, but of course, I can't find the link this morning. When I do I'll pop it in here if no one else has. And I'd defo get the educational version if you are eligible, it's fully functional

It's really hard to tell in web sized images. You'll really have to pixel peep. The easiest way is to download the focus chart and do a test in controlled setting. You may find that one might need a tweak or something.

No choice on the glossy/matte thing ... I'm trying to see if they can push through the heavier, but it takes longer for them to do and I don't have time. So we'll see what they can do ... at this stage either/either is going to work coz I gotta have something. A friend gave me a nudge nudge and I revamped the front completely and the back a bit for a much more pleasing, I think, result. I'm happier now, anyway Just waiting for the printer to get back to me with the final details and proofs!
-
It's getting there...it will be by no means perfect, but hopefully it will get the job done. I've gone with A5 size, still haven't decided on 120 glossy or the 300 ... the 120 is easier to fold etc but will it just get lost among the other zillion bits? At least being a bit heavier, people might pause for a moment before chucking it? hell, I don't know, I just realised I left off my LOCATION on the thing so have to try to figure something out in the next really little while!!

Sorry, I'm a in bit of a dither LOL The main focus will be handing them out at a Bridal Fair thing. I guess any leftovers could be posted out later, but that's not the focus right now.

I've just found out that I have to have a double sided brochure/flier thingie designed and ready for print by TOMORROW!! Ack. I have no idea where to even start ... I can't even choose a size: A4 or A5 in 120 gsm glossy or A5 heavier postcard 300! And I suck at getting started on these design things...I'm a better tweaker. AAArrrrgghhhhh!
