Welcome  I love my 100-400, though I do think it's a heavy beastie! I only hand hold - don't even own a tripod (think I have a monopod somewhere, but no idea where) - and even I can do pretty well with it. I still bitch about the weight tho hehehee

Eza - excellent set! Ruthless - I love that shot! Rocco - always great thought and shots! Back tracking to my G since my friends received their goodies...oh, there are more g's! LOL G is for Ga-ga Giftie And no, it probably couldn't be a more boring shot

Bindi - awesome pics!! Rocco - the new shoes shot is wonderful! Glad you got out and look to have had a good time Awesome experience, I'm jealous! poocow - vibrant set! I've been in chaos-land for the last couple of days so have slacked off a bit. I think I'm up to... I is for Insect Repellent...hubby decided to light a whole bunch of citronella things last night...at one stage I thought we might get I for Inferno because he had these flaming things hanging under the shade cloth, but it was averted! J is for juxtaposition

Try rubiton's suggestion ... if that isn't working or you want to try another option, here's what I found worked best with the jumping penguins (fast, small, low contrast little buggers): I tried AI servo with high speed continuous shooting. Wasted a whole heap of frames and had a dismal keeper rate. Tried it on non-high speed (no H) continual shooting and it was better. Went back to just AI servo and I physically pulled the trigger repeatedly during a jump sequence. I don't know why but my keeper rate was way higher the last way. I've not tried this extensively with the puppies yet, but it's on my list to do. Be interested to see if it works

M is where you control your aperture (for depth of field) and shutter speed (to stop action etc). Both of these control how much light you let in and the brighter a scene is, the less light you need. So 1/800 shutter speed will let in way less light than 1/100, for instance. Just as f2.8 will let in way more light than f16 will. Your shallowest depth of field (the bits in focus) will be at the widest aperture...2.8 has a very shallow depth of field; f16 has a far great depth of field. In M, you also control your ISO (Auto mode does not let you, P mode does). ISO is the sensitivity. 100 needs more light for a scene to be exposed correctly; 1000 needs less light so is used in very dark scenes. There is more noise at high ISOs. Noise is the "grain" type effect you see. PP is short for post processing. It can include all of the cool toning and textures some use or it can be just the basics like contrast, white balance etc. It's also cropping and straightening and rotating. converting to web size... If you are shooting jpeg, your camera does some PP in camera. If you are shooting RAW, you choose all of the PP you want done after you shoot. Always start with the best image you can before you pp Av has been suggested for this challenge to help people start moving towards controlling the final image. Basically, it eliminates one variable and gives you a constant so you can see what changing the others will do to your image. Whew...hope that wasn't too much to fit in the nutshell it was meant to be!

Ruthless - it's a wasp thing Clicking - LOL I wouldn't bother with Av if you are already shooting manual! It can come in handy, I'm told, but I'm so used to M that I don't bother with Av at all You're also not the only one not spending hours on PP, don't worry! I admire those who are and one day I hope to learn how to do all that, too. I love the "throwitthrowit..."!! And the catch series is awesome!! One thing I'd add...go Vertical, Girl!

Bindi - I'm still loving your treatments! That must take ages - looks great! I'm skipping G for now because it's a gift for someone who might see it and I want to make sure it arrives before the photo goes up H is for Hoik...as in hoiking up some spit to make this nest!

I'm pretty sure there is software out there to do it, I just don't know what it is! This is one that I know works for cards and the like, but you'll have to check it out to see if it works for HDs too -> PhotoRescue It may only do cards, I don't know. Sorry I can't be of more help!!

I don't have a 400/450 but I just throw mine for the 40Ds on when I feel I need to, no matter what the little bars say. You may also find that they will last a really long time on a single bar ... I shot another 250 frames when one of mine was down to a bar coz I kept forgetting to charge it. It didn't die but I finally remembered
-
Ruthless - love these two!!
-
E is for Evening Edit...well poop, I didn't convert that very well. Pretend it's a tad brighter and more vibrant LOL
