Super hot here again with not much relief in sight. Deciding to head out snorkeling and ended up out there for over an hour & a half. Saw tons of stuff including a group of nine baby squid, stingrays, nudibranchs, various fishes, lots of crustaceans. Love it! All underwater images with Panasonic TS3 in beach/snorkel mode One of the cutie squids OOF squid duo pretending to be weed sea star suckers stingray teensy mantis shrimp nudibranch - sorry, haven't looked up his name yet scorpionfish Could have easily stayed longer, but glad I didn't...whoopsie!

That's right, nothing will be wrong :) off the top of my head things that aren't what you'd find in a magician's bag of tricks: - a baby's smile - sunrise & sunset - a hug - a look - anything that causes wonder more concrete - rabbits in a hat - a talisman - a magic wand - a crystal ball - tarot cards hmmmm...I still need to figure out two more or at least two more shots for the one idea I already have!

First theme is A Bit Of Magic. You'll be able to find the theme here and on the blog - I'll post the new one on the day before the new challenge starts. Please do not step down!! No one is being judged and it's not about comparing ourselves to each other, but getting out there and trying something new. I fully expect that some of the things I'm going to try throughout the year will tank in a spectacular way - and I may still use those "fails" in my fortnightly posts with a note about what I was thinking. Think "outtakes" and "bloopers"! I agree, this is quite a toughie to begin with but we'll all find some sort of magic in our day or be able to create something that says "magic". And if we can get through this one, think how well we'll do with the others this year :D Maybe we can brainstorm ideas here? Will that help?

Squeee! Bsby Ridgie photos! Use an editing program to resize your images. I think there's a simple free one included with Windows probably. 700 - 900 pixels on the longest side works well.

Not specifically in reference to your shot, but it's not usually the lens - even the cheapest lenses are capable of lovely images. That's why it's so important to get out and shoot with what you have now - learn how to get the most of it and then when/if you do add excellent glass your results will SING!

Simply - pick up a camera, start shooting, start figuring out how to make it do what you want it to do. Use the net - huge, great resources for all topics. Get involved in a supportive online community and comment, look, contribute. Most important, imho, is actually doing the work - shoot, review, shoot, review, repeat...

I know that I'm not going to be able to do a photo a day during the year for a whole bunch of reasons, but I still like to do what I can and share now & then. Figure there might be some others out there like me, so here's our thread - we can post daily or whenever the mood strikes. It's a place for all those shots that you'd like to share, but that you don't want in an individual new thread.
