  1. SBT - love the girl! Great shots, Guys - I'd comment on them all but my office is about 45C and I'm dying so will come back later
  2. Boy I wish these threads were merged LOL Warranties on compact cameras are only (usually) valid in country of purchase. What does this mean? If something goes kerplunk then you have to ship it to the original country if you want it fixed under warranty. It isn't a big deal to me so I do buy from overseas and take the risk, but it may be to others so it's something to think about. Also factor in the exchange rate and the difference in price - in the past, when the dollar was weaker especially - it was still more economical to buy overseas even if I would have had to send a camera back to the US for repair OR simply bought a second one from there. If you are thinking of ordering from the US be sure to check www.pricegrabber.com - I saved about $30 over Amazon's price on my last compact camera.
  3. You should check out POTNs compact camera area -> Lots of info on choices
  4. I replied in your other thread, too. The S90 is an awesome camera, a real top choice. Another option is the G series, but they are way bulkier. I say go the S90 and have a great time, I reckon you'll love it.
  5. Go to POTN and the lens archives -> Click here for main menu Then scroll for the specific lenses. Frankly, I'm not sure how much good it will do you overall - they are all fab choices so it's more about what focal length, budget & zoom/prime choice you prefer It will be a good exercise if you aren't really sure of the types of scenes etc a particular focal length is used for - I like to scroll through now and again coz someone always uses a lens in a way I hadn't considered or had forgotten about!
  6. hehehe, love spencer & kitteh under pillows and cuddlepup is adorable!
  7. What a great variety already this year!! Loving them pixie - don't worry about using photobucket, the photos load just fine from there, too
  8. You have to click the image, then it takes you to another screen and there you will find the IMG tags. You have to do this for every single image. I can't be exact as flickr won't let me in to my own account at all I'm using photobucket, too. So much friggin easier and their file naming makes far more sense, too. Oh, and it doesn't totally over-sharpen images.
  9. Love the sharpeis!! Ness - can't see your images. You need to copy the IMG tags over to here from flickr only. Unless you are only going to post links that ppl have to click to see tlc - Bronson = cutie!! And Dora was sooking because a) she's over the whole mom with camera thing and b) Tilly bombards her constantly when we are on the beach & Dora can't get a second without Til bouncing on her or kicking sand on her.
  10. January 1st Me & my Dora-ble Canon SD1200 IS; processed in Lightroom then to Photoshop for the BW conversion with some Totally Rad Actions lovin'
  11. Canon's 17-55 2.8 IS is an awesome lens and I really like the range if you don't need reach. I would not be without mine. Another choice that is very very good and less than the zoom above is Sigma's 17-70. Very versatile, fast to focus, sharp through its apertures. Pleasing backgrounds. Canon's 85 1.8 is a great action lens, too. It will give you what you need in terms of DOF and nice backgrounds. It's the lens of choice for that focal length unless you are doing more studio work and have an extra million to spend (85L 1.2) because the L actually doesn't focus as quickly. The 85 1.8 is excellent bang for buck and I like the length on a crop, myself. If you don't need reach at all, get the Sigma 30 1.4. Don't hesitate, just get it. It's wonderful - fast, sharp wide open, nice bokeh. But you have to be able to get closer to your subjects that you are probably used to. BTW any lens will allow you to use fast shutter speeds (assuming you have enough light) and shoot in high burst mode - the body determines these things. If you're looking for "blurry" backgrounds, it's apertures that are key (shooting at 1.8 gives a better blur than at f8)
  12. But you've only got 12 hours to be in with a chance! I've got a couple of copies of Dane Sanders Fast Track Photographer to give away FREE and I'm doing it before midnight tonight so hurry and enter -> Yes! I want to win
  13. Still didn't work Tells me there are no matches even though your email came right to that account.
  14. I've tried logging in every which way. Yahoo will not recognize my email account or password. And going through their Help screen to recover them it doesn't recognize ANY of my answers to their questions - and I know I didn't change anything or do anything funky when I signed up. It just hates me.
  15. Brilliant Prints sends them already stretched on the frame. Check them out.
  16. That should have been the caption!!!
  17. Ah, now I see it's 100/month - do the older months still stay visible? When I was last on it once you reached the limit it just knocked the older stuff off being able to be viewed unless you went pro. And, no, I can go to my flickr thingie from your link, but I can't get into it. The login details I have written down don't get me in and nor do any variations I can think I might have used. And I couldn't find anyway to get flickr to actually respond to me to help. I suppose I could always make a new account - have they fixed that oversharpening issue?
  18. Does the photo a day (365) you all are doing have to go up on flickr? I haven't commited yet, but if I do, I reckon I'll stick to photobucket and/or my blog - especially since I can't get into my flickr LOL (and I don't want to pay flickr for hosting & I'm guessing a photo or more a day will send any of their free accounts over the edge. With my free Photobucket account with all the stuff I put there I'm still only at 35% of my free allotment!)
  19. They were TERRIBLE. I will never use them again. If you want all the gos I can copy what I put on a private pro forum in a PM to you, but long story short - horrible, rude, confusing, lying customer service. Quality on what they got right was OK. Trying to get THEIR error corrected was a nightmare that I finally gave up on ever getting redone properly. Did I mention rude, slow, confusing, time consuming...? Brilliant Prints are fantabulous to work with for canvas prints. And the canvas I've had done is gorgeous. My first ever canvas from them had the teensiest little white dot way up in the corner. No one else could see it, but I knew it was there. I rang them and explained and asked if it was just one of those things with canvas and they said no way, we'll get a brand new one out to you tomorrow - no charge for freight or the reprint. I asked if I should send the original one back - nope, keep it. No muss, no fuss. Special orders have been done fast and efficiently and correctly each and every time. Their shipping to me is super fast and SUPER cheap - no one else even comes close.
  20. BTW - as far as I know this is NOT true and I personally wouldn't buy from a company giving out unconfirmed and most likely inaccurate information. I'm double checking in a thread over on POTN coz there are lots of ppl over there who keep an eye on these things, but I was pretty sure that when Canon announced the new L version, the old version wasn't announced as being discontinued.
  21. Those are both pretty good prices - B&H (not usually the cheapest but good to work with) has it for about $670AUD plus shipping. Remember these prices are for the original NOT the newer L version. The original rocks - the L version has some nice things going for it, but at roughly $1175AUD for me I wouldn't spend the extra Do a little research if you're tempted by the new version to make sure you make the right choice. Beach Camera and Buydig.com both have the 100s for a good chunk less than B&H, so it definitely pays to shop around.
