  1. LOL if you'd ordered it back when this thread first started, you would have had it by now! Maybe wherever you are going will have on locally.
  2. There are two (well, three) Canon macros to consider when you are getting your first one: Canon 60 2.8 macro - this is an awesome all rounder. Small, light, super sharp, easy to use, fast, focus, easy to hand hold. Would never be without mine. Not only does fabulous macro, but is a lovely lens for other shooting incuding portraits. Downsides: you have to get really close to small subjects for 1:1 macro. Canon 100 macro - there are two versions, one with IS which is more expensive and one without. I have the one without. Both are super sharp, pretty fast to focus and produce really nice images. Both are heavy and take a bit of getting used to hand holding. This focal length is also nice for shooting a little action or portraits etc if you have extra room to back up a bit. These lenses are physically way bigger than the 60mm. The IS version is, by all accounts, a slightly better lens than the non-IS. However, only you can decide if the extra significant cash is worth it. For me, no, it wouldn't be worth it. The IS will allow a shorter learning curve in hand holding the lens steady but imho not quite enough to pay that much more. I love my 100 macro BUT I don't use it nearly as much as my 60mm macro - or my 135L. I find the 100mm is an odd focal length for my style of shooting. there are also third party macros that are good - especially the 50mm macro by Sigma. OH, and there is a 50mm macro from Canon, I believe, but the 60mm is in a totally different league so I never consider that unless you are only shooting on a full fram (5D or 1Ds etc) camera. The 60 is just too awesome.
  3. hehehe love the little jackets.
  4. Not sure this counts, but I love it  I'm sure Tilly is just copying Dora but really has no idea why she's looking around so alertly!
  5. Be aware that the problem with going long on a portrait lens is room. If you shoot indoors at all, space is an issue and even the 85 can be too long. If you will always have room to play with and don't mind backing up, then something a bit longer will be great.
  6. #1 - I don't know what you mean by noisy? It looks fine on the web. Remember, even if you can see some "noise" in an image on your computer screen, you may not see it in print. It's disconcerting and I have to remind myself that I won't see noise in my shadows or evening skies or whatever when I print. You'll get a feel for it. Black dog faces are hard to expose for in full sun as there's such a difference between them and the surrounding scene. A little cropping and this would be a nice photo. #2 and #3 - yes, you have to shoot for your focal length and/or crop to get what you want. There's plenty of information in the images from your camera to crop pretty heavily, so don't be scared to do it. I will often shoot something with a view to cropping it when I don't want to change lenses, when I only have one lens with me or for whatever other reason. Cropping is not evil ;) Getting low is a great suggestion. Getting closer to your subjects is often a good thing, but sometimes you just can't - and that's OK. Just keep it in mind As is thinking about your composition. Both of these are happy snaps but a little thinking about what else is in the frame and how you want the image to look when you are done will go a long way to making them more appealing. Don't stress about getting everything perfect every single time - remember to have fun, too. the more you shoot, the more comfortable you will get in just doing all of these things and you'll find it will start coming together more and more. And fwiw, I'd rather have a happy snappy than no photo!
  7. Dunno, check B&H and DWI here in Australia. Don't shoot Nikon so have no clue on the prices.
  8. 50mm is generally a more flattering length than the 35mm. The 35mm is still really nice & will work for portraits and I adore my 30mm. I find I don't use the 30mm as much as the 50mm for portraits, though. I only really use it for portraits in very specific settings...and still usually flip over to the 50 or 85
  9. You should be able to see links to your photos other places...I can't remember how as I haven't done it in ages, but I know it was pretty simple once I figured it out!
  10. Really really want to hear how you like them when they arrive and of course we need photos! If you're loving the bags, I'm going to add one to my Xmas list for Santa
  11. Interesting. I've never played mine back through a tv. Wouldn't be worth it to me - I'd just zip 'em through the computer and make a slideshow or something onto a dvd. Are you sure it can't be changed? I have it in my menus that I can choose NTSC or PAL on both my 40D and my 1DIII. Bought the 40D in the US and the 1DIII here in Australia. I don't think that information you've been given is the full story... I'd be happy to test it out for you if you know how to do it LOL
  12. Some compromises may need to be made
  13. Thought this might be a fun on at a good price point
  14. She's put her prices up ;( And she hasn't answered my email - I'm not overwhelmed with her service so far...
  15. That's an excellent point to make, koala! It's yet another reason I always resize my images before uploading anywhere.
  16. OK, do you know why you weren't happy with them? Having a look at your own photos and doing a little dissection is an awesome way to get where you want to be a little faster...

  18. Welcome to the real world of photography You'll have times like that - it's OK and normal. If you're up for it, have a look through and determine WHAT it is that you don't like and then concentrate on fixing that the next time you pick up your camera. If you're up for it, but can't quite determine what the problem is, post some and I'm sure you'll get a lot of help! If you're not up for it, just shrug it off and have some more fun with your camera next time!
  19. She's got so many pretty ones. Can't wait to see what she has closer to Xmas coz I'm for sure putting it on my list for Santa-man :D
  20. The one with the orange wavey fabric.
  21. If you click the link you'll see it is in stock and ready for delivery Only the paper version, not the e-version yet, though.
  22. I'd put that difference in price towards a new lens or a new bag or a dinner out or something And I'm pretty sure you'll be able to choose English - either straight from the menu or with a firmware update. This I am not sure about, so do double check. I'd probably learn the menus by number (you can download the manuals in English) and still save the money even if it was always in Japanese LOL
