If you do not have Lightroom already, you need to purchase it, not the upgrade. I think it's $179. Totally worth it

I can recommend Camera Pro, Brisbane. I bought my Canon 1DIII from them and not only were they very helpful but I paid less than I would have through B&H through some fluke of stock levels and exchange rates :) My camera arrived promptly, with no hassles. I would shop with them again.

Lovely portraits! t would be awesome to have some editing tips - you obviously do a lot of editing to your images and it really works with the subjects

Anyone have a good supplier? I'm looking for ones that sit flat & have no hardware showing on the front - the Brilliant Print Ice Mounts are very nice, but they don't have a sit flat option.

I resize mine before uploading. Makes it faster for upload and I know they will display correctly. Long edges between 700-900 pixels seem to work the best.

Are you hosting them somewhere: flickr, photobucket etc? If so, there's a code on those sites (on photobucket it's under each image, use the last box) that you just copy and paste straight into the message box here. If you are attaching a photo straight from your computer, DOL automatically makes it a small thumbnail and people do have to click for a bigger version.

That would suck. I've never had (or heard of anyone I know having) this problem. Surely a little pressure and some wiggling, persistence and patience should let it come loose? good luck!

I've noticed that there's some confusion about what out of camera (OOC or SOOC if you add the "straight") leads to as some people think that if you get your exposure correct the image is done. Photography is rarely that simple. Here's two images shot seconds apart today - I moved my shooting angle by only inches. Both frames are SOOC, just popped together before saving for the web You can see the colour tones change pretty dramatically. In real world shooting conditions there's simply no way you have time to reset that in camera (the ease of doing this post-shoot is one reason why shooting in RAW is so awesome). Both frames are exposed how I want them so in theory both should be useable. And maybe they would be if they were individual prints, but no way could I have these anywhere near each other. Two second Lightroom fix (or your editing software of choice) + a sharpen for web (another 2 seconds) Now I can show these images close to each other in frames, on the wall, in a book, on a blog, wherever and we aren't distracted by the change in colour tone that was evident in the original SOOC images. Why am I posting this here? Because I think it's important that no one is scared of post processing and that camera users take back control of their images. I also think it's important that post processing isn't ridiculed and demonized, as so many seem eager to do lately. Post processing is not a dirty term, it's just as much a part of every photographer's kit as the glass and body you put in your hand. And the skill to wield PP powers is just as important as being able to tell your camera what you want it to do to capture the image in the first place. Everything is entwined. Those with a some or a lot of experience are probably comfortable working with their images in a way that makes them happy or at least on a path that will make them happy; just like every other aspect of photography, it's an evolution. So many new camera users fear post processing for no good reason.

Splerk!! You made me laugh - the only battle these three have been in is the battle of the bulge!

I can't believe that I now have MORE ta ta lizards than ever before - including cutest group of three teensy ones. The little ones have been impossible to take photos of - well, at least that show how teensy and cute their faces are - but I'm going to keep trying. In the meantime, here's another lounge lizard and one on the ramp

thanks :) Boof: If I actually cared, I'd wonder why you were on the floor taking a moment

Haven't taken much time with the BGC lately other than work so trying to spend a little time every couple of days on personal stuff. Feel like the kitties have been neglected photographically while the Pupster was with us...I'm not convinced they minded, though! Lobo: Possessing the patio furniture again Loving a beam of sun Harry, my one-eyed beautiful pirate boy: oh, please, Mama, take moar fotos

*english.ivy here* I feed it to my older Labradors and as a back up/emergency for my two. It isn't the yogurt plus one. The golden oldies are doing well on it and my younger two love it. Great price and good quality food. The Labs get the mature one at the moment. Good amount of fat for them.

[english.ivy here] I'm a multi dog household and it's the best thing ever. I would never be a one dog household again. With multi dogs they all spend 90% of their time outside quite happily. Training, walking, outings are all heaps of fun with two dogs. They spend most of their time playing together and get the best enjoyment out of it.

Terra - yippee on doing your course!! Check out the Panasonic TS3 (my I love Water thread is all about that little spunk of a camera) - it's only a couple hundred bucks, goes to 12m and does a fantastic job on stills and videos, imho.

Thanks for the input td & kuma - appreciate you taking the time!

Margined coralfish on blue Please let me know what you think about this next image - it's a departure for me and I like to know how others view it. Don't be shy - you can't hurt my feelings (but you can make me feel warm fuzzies ;)) when I ask for feedback. And it doesn't matter if you've ever put your head under the sea - I value all input. Even just "like" or "not really like" or anything more you think. So pretty please take a minute, if you can? Something a bit different for this cod & his remora buddy

Every lens will have a maximum aperture - f5.6 or f2.8 or f1.4 etc This is how "fast" a lens is, how much light it can gather. Those lenses with wider maximum apertures are heavier, more expensive and work better in low light situations (1.4 is better than 2.8 which is better than 5.6). 2.8 is a lovely compromise on many lenses for great performance with reasonable weight (though generally still relatively high priced). Check to see if Niko or one of the third parties (like Sigma) do a 70-200 2.8 or similar, it's a great range (and Sigma's Canon version is very very good). If you don't need the extra reach, Sigma's 50-150 2.8 is also great.
