  1. Agree! Double Agree and triple agree.......
  2. Supervision is a good idea regardless of what you feed - dogs have been known to inhale dry food and require medical attention. Just remember to feed a variety of raw, chicken should not be the only rmb you feed. I also use chunky lamb or beef cuts (remove some of the fat) and also kangaroo. Good luck! S
  3. Gosh......um have the litter then send her the dog.........is it really worth the trouble? Been down the contract road as as Ellz said - not worth doing. Surely if she really likes the dog she will be prepared to wait? Then again what happens is the litter does not happen? Does she have to wait again..... Been there done that, been burnt, never again. S
  4. Excellent news! Best of luck with the puppy in the future. S
  5. I have had a judge ask me after the show if a level bite was acceptable in my breed.........um hell no ! Sometimes a top breeder can take things too far and be breeding outside the standard and get away with it because of who he/she is and still have kennel blindness. Then they dig themselves such a big hole and push everyone else away and few other breeders will deal with them so when they need an outcross they have to go to "jo blow" down the street and use his dog! All they have to do is turn up to the shows they are entered in and they have won already because of who they are not what is on the end of the lead. That is what upsets me about showing, the politics As long as I am critical of my breeding, and I converse with other breeders and share photos or in person visits then no showing is NOT the be all and end all. S
  6. Agreed! I have had an obsessive "cow" and she is still with us at ten years of age - never been sick a day in her life blut loved to graze - daily! Always particular about the type of grass, soft green and sweet smelling. Worried me for a while but she never vomited after. S
  7. A simple DNA test to confirm parentage will sort that issue out (if it becomes one) Best of luck with the rest of the babies! S
  8. Only overshot here too pick female overshot by 2mm at six weeks - still overshot at five months by about 7mm another male same litter overshot by 5mm at six weeks - still overshot at five months by about the same another female same litter perfect scissor at six weeks - overshot at three months by about 2mm not sure about now. I plan on keeping in touch with all the owners to see how they progress but it freaked me out a bit. The grandmother of the litter had never thrown a bad mouth, the daughter had three litters - two with overbites, one litter normal..........decided it was best to desex mum and start again. Definately hereditary in that case. The only info on wry bites I read was that wry was definately hereditary and a dog should never be used for breeding regardless of whether or not the mouth comes good. Its tempting though to "see how it goes", I almost kept that pick girl and ran her on to see what would happen but bites are just so important for my breed (cattle dogs) I felt it was not worth the trouble when I could try for another litter and hopefully get normals all round..... Food for thought... S
  9. Yep here too we feed them whole - bashed up a bit to get them started early on but by six weeks they are chewing madly. I avoid necks after that age as they begin to hoover them up and no chewing happens! (That is a cattle dog though LOL) Go for it and just supervise closely if you are at all concerned. S
  10. I agree Peaceful, it happens more than you think.....I used to own one! Bought my girl as a pet (but on main papers) did obedience with her then thought " I'll give this showing thing a go..." titled her and she never had to beat another dog on the way. After a few years and more learning I realised she was not show quality nor breeding quality so had her desexed. But surely on photos prior to purchase entropian would be seen? Or is it something more difficult to ascertain? Its not something I am familiar with.... S
  11. Have not had any issues since my dogs are fed a varied raw meaty bone diet - oldest is ten and her teeth are sparkling! Bought in a three year old whose had never seen a bone before and her teeth were awful, got her eating bones and after three weeks you would not know the difference. Unless it is a really old or particularly small breed that may have difficulty with bones why not gives the bones a go? S
  12. Either inside in their crates or outside on the cool tiles - depending upon the weather! S
  13. SBT123 - great set up similar to what I do! But silly me never thought of lino!!!! Only difference is where you guys are using heaters we are using air conditioners up here in sunny nth QLD! Well for nine months of the year anyway. Its only just getting cold enough for a jumper for an hour in the morning here! Whelped last litter inside, whelping box surrounded by puppy pen, first four weeks inside then transition to outside ventures and inside to sleep. S
  14. MM, I think you took that to heart and it was uncalled for.........SBT did not attack you or indicate your pup was a leppar, just simply stated the facts as the facts are. Plus gave you some sound advice! Is there a bee in your bonnet or what? Staffy's can be great dogs, I don't own one but my family owns two. Very loyal loving dogs, can be boisterous and pig-headed when it comes to training but so too can many other breeds. Firm consistent guidance worked for my family's dogs. Hope you the information you are after, S
  15. I do my pups from litters at six weeks when they get their microchips and vaccs. Very simple to do but best done once they are weaned from mum (mostly anyway!) I try to encourage them to drink water to "flush" out the mouth a little before doing it especially if they tend to lick each others mouths as that can affect the result.
  16. Ahhhh this brings back memories!! I was horribly underprepared for my first litter - my gosh didn't I learn quickly....... My first tip - do lots of reading, read some more, internet search, read more books, ask lots of questions BEFORE you even consider a mating. Your partner will think you are obsessed with canine reproduction but will thankyou when the pressure is on. My other tip - whelping box either inside or if you can't have it inside, as close to the back door as possible....all my girls want to be as close as possible to me when they whelp and will do whatever they can for that to happen. Best of luck!
  17. Yep one here too, no idea who she is.......
