Sorry. Toby is 14 months old. He's eating and drinking fine, although is quite fussy with his food, we're having a bit of difficulty locating something he likes (the food the previous owners told us he liked - he doesnt want to touch). He responds OK to us - I think the main issue is he's still getting used to us being his owners with regards to that, although I may be wrong.

We're a little concerned about Toby, our Border Collie, and was just after some opinions, more to put my mind at rest! Except for the first night, and then the incident of him escaping/being let out - we've noticed that Toby is an extremely quiet dog. Apart from him being excited when we go out the back, he comes inside, when he's with us out the front (on a lead), and when we go on walks - when he's by himself outside, he pretty much just sleeps, and curls up near the doors. He's not extremely active by himself, and he's very, very quiet. Our neighbours havent heard a peep out of him (except for when someone goes up near the gates, he barks a bit), my Mum was at my place yesterday and didnt hear anything, and when we're home and he's out the back, we dont hear anything either. He pretty much just sleeps his days away. Doesnt dig, except if we give him one of those chewy bones, which he'll chew then go and bury. Last night was the only time we saw him go a bit "mental" and that was after quite a long walk, he went and "swam" in his clam shell bath, and then went and rolled around in the sand and then went and laid down. So - have we just gotten extremely lucky and got a good BC, or could there be something wrong with him?

Thanks will do :D

Thank you for those links and that information. He's a "suburbs" dog. He also doesnt seem to be a very active dog either. Perhaps its the new environment and the heat, but he seems to just prefer to laze around, chew on his bones, go bury them, go dig another one up, chew, bury, sleep.........you get the idea :D We've been taking him for a walk these past few nights for an hour - I will build it up, I promise :D Its killing me as it is lol. I think it is supercoat that he's on. I'll change from the supermarket tins right away :D A friend told us we should be making up a mixture of rice and mince with some veggies but I wasnt too sure?? And is it cooked or raw mince?

We're just wondering what we should be feeding Toby? He's 14 months old and he's currently on - umm not sure what its called, we got it with him, its Dr Harry's dry mixture? Something coat I think it is. Plus tins of Pedigree. He seems fine with this, however, isnt into the dry biscuits very much at all!! So just after suggestions if there are things we should be feeding him, or another mixture to try him on? Thanks!!

Thanks for that, we'll make sure he's got a wading pool

Hi, yes we got Toby back last night. He was at the Mundaring Pound. He apparently had bad diaaorear (sorry dreadful spelling, I cant spell that word for the life of me!!) at the pound, however, havent seen a sign of it since bringing him home. So I'm thinking perhaps just stressed?? We got him bathed last night and he's nice and clean now. Has some knots of sorts in his coat though, behind his ears and under his belly and on his bum/tail area - the dirt that came off him when he was bathed, I wonder when the last owners groomed him!! Do we cut these out or just leave them? Do the fall out on their own or just get worse? They're about 1 to 2 cm wide and about 3 or so cm long.

Thank you for that!! We werent too sure, so thought here would be the best place to ask Thanks again!!!!

Just wondering whether we should take Toby to the groomers for summer, or just leave him? Thanks

Hi, I'm new on here, and we've just become the proud new owners last night of Border Collie called Toby (or "Tickle" as my 2 year old has taken to calling him). He's just over a year old (they got him as a puppy in Nov 06, so not exactly 100% sure how old he is). The people that we got him off, who for whatever reason decided to get rid of him (goodness knows why, he's a gentle loving dog that we've observed so far!!), told us he was trained with "hand signals". She ran thru them quickly last night, however, apart from sit, we seem to have forgotten them. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction as to where I could find some information about these? One thing we're also confused about too is that she was giving him a verbal plus hand signal command - and whilst hand signals may be good, how do they work if he's not looking at you?! Thanks!!!!!
