  1. Thank you Aussie3. :D They are certainly lovable loons, who are very entertaining
  2. I always thought that it was because Zephyr prefers to smell like grass and dirt, not coconuts (we use aloven shampoo). With Dee it is definitely a case of "I only like it when I smell like something dead". She will zoom out and instantly drop her shoulder and roll and wriggle. (insert Mr Rolleyes)
  3. Bitey face is a favourite game in this house, But it usually involves biting ears And legs And tails And flanks Even with a ball in their mouth
  4. We had seven living here for 8 months of last year, ranging in age from 9 years to 2 years. We lost Bliss to cancer in July and then three went home in August. We know have three, Baylee 10 years old in May, Dee 4 years old in July and Zeph 3 years old in April. I will always have a multidog household. :D
  5. All the very best for today with Bison's treatment and with your discussions with Peter.
  6. Thanks Adnil444. I think they are absolutely gorgeous as well :D Pretty Miss Emma, there are many possible reasons for the docking of Rottweilers' tails. Rottweilers were originally breed as working dogs herding cattle for the Roman armies during the Crusades. It is thought that their tails were docked to prevent the tails getting covered in mud and faeces as they moved the stock, which made the tails prone to injury and infection. This was a bad thing as veterinary care was pretty much non existent in those days or in the areas being covered during invasion. Thus it was a preventative measure against injury and infection. Later in history the Rottweiler acted as the butcher's dog. They would herd the stock to slaughter, then pull the cart with all meat in it to market. Again it could have been a preventative move to dock the tail to prevent injury during the pulling of the carts. It is also thought that they were docked by the farmer to avoid having to pay a "tail tax" as counting tails was a method used to count livestock, which were then taxed according to the number. Another popular belief for tail docking in Rottweilers is that it makes them look more fierce, which suited their secondary role of guard/police/military dog. Apart from protecting the farmer's money when returning from market, the Rottweiler was not primarily used in this roll until World War 1. This may be one reason for docking in modern times, but the Rottweiler was originally bred as a working dog, so injury prevention is the most likely reason for docking to have occurred.
  7. I did one of those magic spins with a 30kg Rotty to keep her from two attacking SWFs and a Lab X. When we finally stopped spinning she threw up on me
  8. A dog is more than just a tail. They all have character. They all have beauty. They know how to have fun. They are all loyal and loving. A dog is so much more than a tail. I know, as I own ones with and without and I would not change each individual dog for anything :D
  9. Another link for you http://www.dogcancer.net.au/dog-cancer-canine-lymphoma.php
  10. Exercise ensures that they maintain muscle and body strength as well as a positive mental attitude, all of which are vitally important in the fight against cancer. Just how much exercise is up to your dog. Be directed by Bison. If he wants to play, play. If he wants to rest, let him rest. You can add eggs, with shells, sardines, mackrels, broccoli, spinach, brussel sprouts, bok choy, etc to his meat to add more nutrients. Does the chicken mince include frames so that he is getting the calcium?
  11. We put all the vegies in a food processor and made a pulp that was added to the fresh meat. The other supplements were then added and mixed in. This was done every day to ensure that the maximum amount of vitamins and antioxidants were available. So glad that Bison is still travelling well.
  12. So rapt that all is going well and that you are getting the best advice and treatment. Bison is a gorgeous looking dog. :D Thank you for introducing us and allowing us to share in your journey. Photos and videos are a must Another thing to include in Bison's diet is lots of green veg, like silverbeet, spinach and other veg high in antioxidants. However, just check that none of them are contraindicated with Robert's herbs or the chemo agent. Peter is very open to a combined approach.
  13. My furniture is not appreciating the fact that ALL THREE rotties a bloody good mousers  Their heads, let alone their bodies, do not fit in mouse spaces. But they do not let that stop them We currently have mice, due to building activity around us, so the dogs are very alert to every squeak and rustle. I am using those grey plastic traps, so I have to bolt everytime I hear the traps go off to get there before the dogs. However, their hearing is way better than mine, and they sometimes beat me. All I can say is thank gawd for the :give: command ;)
  14. Thank you so very much Anne for all the results I am just missing one result - The best Groomer. If anybody knows the lucky recipient could you please post the winner and I will finalise the list.

  18. I know of two occasions where an adult bitch attacked two different puppies and it turned out that both puppies had terminal illnesses, which they died from within months of the attacks. Both attacks did not cause injury to the puppies, so their illness was not as a result of the attack. Sometimes mature dogs attack puppies for logical reasons that we are not aware of.
