  1. My apologies, I should have clarified that it can also just happen - it's not always bad breeding. No offense intended! After all, I have Feonix here, who IS an Australian Champion, and she has a longer muzzle and not enough stop - I'm not thrilled with her head shape at all, and she's from lines that have very strong and correct head types. She then went on to produce Nova who has a very good head shape :) So yes, it can also just be genetic lottery. By and large though - long pointy faces are often the result of poor breeding, for example backyard breeders breeding without actually knowing what the standard is :) No offence taken. :D If I did not know Dee's breeding and her breeder so well, I would swear that she is Labrador x Kelpie
  2. teekay they are fantastic photos. Stunning and beautiful. In awe.
  3. Good on you for telling them how unprofessional they have been and doing the best for Danny. Yep, lots of quality time is in order for you and Danny. Enjoy your cuddles with the Old Man :D
  4. I love Rottweilers but don't like Dobes. They are not as versatile or robust. And are more aloof.
  5. Teela my girl Dee is not to standard, with a long narrow muzzle and her Mother's ears , but she came from Championship parents. Her brothers from the same litter, and a repeat mating, are multi V rated dogs, with working titles. It is a genetic toss of the dice. Do I love her any less? Hell no. She is an amazing dog who has achieved so much and gained a few working titles. See my two favourite photos of her at the moment below. These were taken on the weekend at Lake Hume. It was her first time on a kayak.
  6. And then they grow up into handsome beasts that love to party and swim and be entertained. Zeph Flint
  7. Huge hugs and gentle licks from us to you and Danny
  8. That makes sense. See I never get this :/ We're talking about domesticated dogs recognising their own kind. There's a lot of evolutionary processes that relate to survival still dominant in us humans. A huge amount of our social behaviour, for example, as the evolutionary psychologists tell us. It'd be the same with dogs. Domestication doesn't wipe out Nature ... Prey drive is a good example. Even though our dogs are fed on a regular basis, they still have prey drive. Some dogs more than others. Even Stanley has prey drive, although the evil genius has used his prey drive to learn how to open cupboards and fridges. Why chase when it is already caught and stored.
  9. You capture the most stunning action shots Kirislin. You must spend a lot of time at their level.
  10. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Well done to Puck and Tag. Dogs certainly know who friends and family are. There is definitely a bond there with Arkey
  11. Happy Birthday gorgeous boy. Enjoy your cake.
  12. Now the fun and the time wasting really begins. You will need a bigger SD card  Absolutely gorgeous
  13. Yep leash corrections will take Dee over threshold in an instant. The same as saying "leave it". So if a dog is barking at her I say "watch" and use food. That way she is focused on me. However, this does not work in a prey drive situation. My control is not good enough to effectively and consistently control her around small active dogs, in the bush or anywhere that rabbits and kangaroos are around. This is why she will never do agility and will only do off lead obedience around larger dogs. She is always on lead in these situations, even though we have trained at all breeds clubs for years amongst terriers and SWFs. When she is moving and focused on me she is brilliant. The stationary exercises I worry a bit. I think this is the main reason we have moved to Rally. More movement in close proximity to me. In Open there is more distance control and more room for error. This is the reason she is not allowed out of the house without a lead on. Too many dogs walk by the house that she will see as prey. But the stupid thing is that at water training last weekend she had a black female lab in her face while she was tied up (as I was packing up her crate) and she just looked away in avoidance mode. She was not comfortable but did not react. I was right there and got the owner to move their dog away. I just don't get her sometimes. I really wish I knew what goes through her head sometimes. I am certain that we are dealing with two different issues. Defensive reactivity and prey drive.
  14. Oh God I finally worked out what the colour stripes where at the top of the photos, the collar colours, not some glitch with the photos.
  15. It is mandatory to dress your Rottweiler up for important ceremonial occasions, take photographic evidence and post it for the whole world to see. It is called sharing the love
  16. OMG totally clueless and not following the club rules obviously. Scary really.
  17. Time to clip the toe nails I do think. :) I do like very much. They will be escaping out of there very soon.
  18. Brilliant job. Very impressed. If they are diggers maybe a clam shell pool filled with sand. You appear to be in a dry part of Vic so maybe put it in an area that gets the shade in the arvo and wet the sand. It makes a great cool area for them to rest in. Zeph loves to do that in summer.
  19. Absolutely brilliant Just love the camping chair photo. Looks like they had a brilliant time.
  20. OMG there are some absolutely "special" DOL dogs in this thread. Brilliant. SL maybe Zig is into rap music :D
  21. It is a lot of fun, except Dee swims with her tail up and splashes you in the face.
  22. I am extremely proud of my boy Zeph and Rottisliebe's boy Flint. They have only been doing water rescue for a few months and have embraced the activity like they were born to do it. They are so confident and trusting in us that nothing bad will happen to them, that they will try anything. They love the boat work and today tried swimming with their handler and rescuing a person, where they had to tow the drowning person to shore. They are enthusiastic (sometimes a little too much) and so happy to be in the water and working. The possibilities are endless for these boys.
