I missed week 9 due to the weather. It was going to be fireworks and Men in Kilts taken at the Craigieburn Torchlight Parade, but the lightening came and the heavens opened up, and we all ran. So, I tried some more macro work this week, with the assistance of some skinks that are commonly around our pond. I need to work on my focus though, as only parts of the lizards are in focus. Week 10/52 These little guys have a lovely copper coloured head This rock is occupied They are incredibly agile and fast

When You Stay In Dog Friendly Accommodation
grumpette replied to sheena's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sheena your little get away cabin is sounding divine. We have been many places with the dogs in three states over the years, and the most stressful places to stay were ones that made the dogs sleep in the car. The car was cold and condensation formed or to hot. And the dogs barked, when other dogs barked during the night. There was no covered area to park the car, so it was exposed to the sun and rain. You cannot have dogs in cars under those circumstances. Our dogs sleep inside in their crates or on their beds, not on our bed or the furniture, when at home. These rules are followed wherever we go. Paws are wiped upon entry into the cabins, with the dogs' towels, never supplied towels. We have stayed in a couple of cabins where the dogs slept in their crates on the verandas, which were properly roofed and had enclosed railings. This was good in the summertime, as the dogs could be feed out there while we ate our dinner. They were able to chill with us at the end of the day until bed. This is not so good in the colder months. Our dogs are used to being with us, so it is an enjoyable time away if they can also be with us in the cabin. When we go camping we take a small generator along to provide lighting, using fluorescent lighting. This may be an option if solar is to expensive. -

Exercising Reactive Dogs Thread

BCC totally agree with you. Why do I get put in the position where I either kick the dog away or Dee kills it. Neither option is desirable. I have worked out a critical distance and can keep her focused on me most of the time, unless the dog comes up to us closer than a rural street width. And a similar vent. Why are people at vets so bloody clueless and inattentive, especially small dog owners. We were at the vets yesterday. Dee was in a drop well away from the door, just chilling out. In comes a medium sized female dog, possible GSP x SBT, straight into Dee's personal space, sniffing her face. She was brilliant and I remembered to NOT tighten the lead so not a problem. A greeting was exchanged, Dee stayed down, and the other dog moved away. Then an oddle comes out of the consult room, handled by a 6 year old boy, at the end of a long lead. Straight for Dee. I gently turned Dee's head away and held it while the vet nurse very quickly intervened. That encounter was never going to end well, because she was instantly aroused. I always look out of the consult room door before we go out, and always have Dee and Zeph focused on me and on a short lead. Not all dogs like big black dogs and not all big black dogs like other dogs. Or they like the kitten with it's head out of the cat box way too much. Yep, we nearly had a kitten loose in a confined space with a very high prey drive dog. Vet visits can be interesting -
Four Corners: Greyhound Racing: Live Baiting Revelations
grumpette replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
An update on GRV's response http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/greyhound-live-baiting-scandal-races-go-on-owners-turn-to-lawyers/story-fni0fiyv-1227224662156 I feel so very very sorry for the poor dogs who no longer have loving homes, like the one that Rebanne posted about. The dogs are the losers in all this. -
Four Corners: Greyhound Racing: Live Baiting Revelations
grumpette replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
And still absolutely no response from GRV, which is appalling considering the number of Victorians involved. They are hiding behind the "we cannot say or acknowledge anything just in case we jeopardise the legal case". "Suspended persons unable to be named immediately Tuesday, 17 February, 2015 As outrage within the greyhound racing industry and wider community continues in the aftermath of allegations of live baiting in greyhound racing, attention is now turning to authorities to name and prosecute the ten registered persons, suspended last Friday, at the centre of the scandal. GRV’s General Manager of Integrity, Racing and Welfare said there are complexities to the investigation of an unprecedented case like this that made the naming of the suspended persons problematic. “We understand the public’s desire for swift action and are aware the Four Corner program named certain participants. They don’t have to prosecute the case. Having regard for legal advice received we are unable, at this time, to confirm the persons who have had their registrations suspended. We have immediately suspended all the individuals identified from evidence provided to us and will work hard to identify others as more information comes to hand,” Canty said. “It is our intention, as well as the demand of most people in the sport, to drive these rogue elements out. The investigation will take time because it is extremely important we follow due legal process. We want our charges to stick, and we want the RSPCA’s charges to stick,” he added. GRV is continuing with its investigation and is assisting the RSPCA in their efforts to bring about justice in the shortest time possible." I don't know why considering 5 have been named already, and one has transferred the ownership of two dogs into his wife's name so that they could race in Ballarat on Wednesday. This may also explain why: Covering for mates maybe? http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-02-17/leading-greyhound-figure-bob-smith-live-baiting-controversy/6131244 -
You will have to wait a lot longer for a Rottie then T.

What a brilliant photo. It shows so much: love, devotion, trust and utter cuteness. Brilliant shot Pers

Didi is so big, but so bloody cute. Brilliant photo. I love the angle and your artistic flare.
-
SheWolf, Dee is so obliging. Zeph on the other hand is more about "what is in it for me", and obviously the food that I had just did not cut it. I love the second photo of your beautiful girl. What a great age.

Brilliant photos of a totally gorgeous dog. Nixon is divine. I love the last action photo. You have to love a dog that loves balls.
