  1. Hi all I have decided to clip my own maltese..... With many weeks of researching i have come up with 2 model clippers that i am interested in. They both seem to be very similiar in price and functions.. but i just don't know which one will make the cut.. so.. to everyone with experience in clippers and clipping your own dog of course.. please help me The Andis Pro Pet (single speed) MGB2? OR The Wahl KMS single speed?
  2. I know this is a little off topic.. but i want to look for a really good groomer for my pure malt. Mainly for the paws, clipping of nails, glands and ears. I live in Strathfield area.. can anyone recommend me a good groomer?
  3. hello.. it has been a while since my last visit. I am trying to find a reliable dog groommer for my little maltese. She really needs a good fur trim but i just don't know where i can get one that is realiable and safe for her inner west would be close to me any suggestions?
  4. her teeth is slightly wobbly but not as loose as the front teeth's when she was teething them. I will watch her for a week and then decide what to do.. she is nipping and biting which is really killing me
  5. i have a 5 month maltese puppy and she is teething she started teething around 4.5 months.. with her top and bottom front teeth going first.. now the top and bottom fronts are all the new ones. The sides are now just starting to wobble. (not sure the proper names of these) st The bottom sides (really pointy ones on each side) are just starting to wobble but i can see the real ones starting to come out behind it. Since the baby ones are not falling out.. will it cause any issues with the real ones? How do i get the baby teeth to wobble more and fall out? so they will not be in the way for the real ones to come out? I am already feeding her chicken necks and frames along with her daily diet of dry dog food.
  6. i use newspaper as i don't have grass at my courtyard.. otherwise i would definitely have my dog outside to do her business. (less cleaning up ) i use newspaper and ensure i have at least 4 layers so it will not seep onto my tiles.. once baci does her business i get another sheet of newspaper and lay it on top so it seeps onto the top layer and bottom layer.. then i will clean it up after it has all seeped so it will not run everywhere... the down side to newspaper is: having to clean her mess frequently she does step on it every now and then.. so you have to wipe her paws.. and maybe the tiles where she has trotted I have tried puppy pads when baci was young.. but she just doesn't go on it.. and went on the tile instead.. so i reverted back to newspaper.. sorry i cannot be much help with the training pads
  7. i have a maltese puppy.. nearly 5months old and currently teething.. I have been searching around trying to find out when puppies fully form their adult size body? any help would be great.. so i can start looking for winter coat for her cheers
  8. she has finally finished it.. she was pretty good.. no gulping down and took much longer to chew than chicken necks.. she is teething right now so i really need a good bone she can chew on thanks heaps
  9. I would not cut them up, when you cut bones up it can make them more dangerous than if they are whole as it makes them smaller and not natural. It depends on what kind of eater your dog is. Most dogs know what they can swallow, some are a bit grandiose in their plans! Chicken frames are quite soft, baby puppies can eat them, so I would be surprised if your maltese can't get through it very easily My collie pup was on frames and wings at 8 weeks with no problem, and they have teeny tiny mouths  she is eating the frame now.. i have cut it up because a whole frame is about the size of her entire body.. she has the size around about her head. She is licking it and trying to get into it. Which is good. unlike the chicken necks.. they go down pretty quick i am supervising her.. just incase thanks heaps.. will keep you updated
  10. tess.. i want to move to chicken frames as they will give my maltese more chewing time. I am cutting them up into quarter pieces. But the rib part (middle section) is really tough. Is that safe for her? I am really worried if she chokes.
  11. i feed my maltese chicken necks frozen and she chews on them to soften then gulps it down pretty quick. She doesn't chew them for a long time. Unlike when she was 10weeks old. She took ages to finish one. She is now around 5months old and teething.. so i am feeding her chicken necks to soothe her but she eats them so quick.. what other bone can i use? how about chicken frames?.... are they ok?
  12. is it a female or male? how about bass treble
  13. i would give it a go.. but do supervise so they do not get lazy and try to swallow it whole. puppies do get lazy if they try to chew it and get frustrated then try to swallow it whole which can be dangerous and choke her if he cannot chew it or is taking ages.. then cut it up into pieces. this will then not cause any choking problems good luck!!
  14. yes i saw these while trying to find more info on clippers and they look really easy to use and pretty good quality for domestic use has anyone used it before.. please give me some feedback.. the website has a u-tube link and it looks so easy
  15. something around $100. is that too cheap to get a decent quality?
  16. i am looking for a cheap pet trimmer for my maltese dog. The pro trimmers out there are around $250 which is beyond my price range. Where can i find a second hand one? rather than a cheapie $30 from BigW that will only last 1 cut
  17. PW.. thank you for the support. I am just so worried i am not giving her enough nutrition. I don't want to end up with a big vet bill cause of poor nutrition. i am going to finish off the optimum canned food. And will only give that 50% at night only. Day time i will giver her 100% dry food. And of course the chicken necks to keep her teeth nice and clean. After that i will need to decide what to do. thanks heaps
  18. emma dee.. i use advocate which i believe is very simliar to revolution.. i do not use any tick collar. I only use drontal which covers tape worm. I am pretty sure advocate covers ticks.. but i am sure other DOL members can confirm that
  19. i use aloveen for my dog. It is for sensitive skin and does not strip any oils from the fur so it does not damage the coat it smells really good too
  20. hm.. it sounds like barf meat patties are much better than wet canned dog food. i am no expert at making my own barf and i don't have much freezer space. therefore it seems like barf patties are the way to go. I will try 50% barf and 50% euk for the beginning to see how she goes with it. in the meantime.. i will need to finish off the optimum canned dog food first
  21. i know this topic has been discussed several times and can go on with many variations. But i need some advice please... i have a matlese puppy which is now around 4months old. I took her home at 8 weeks and fed her dry eukanuba. Then i slowly introduced chicken necks as part of her diet. I find that she is not extremely fond of eukanuba.. because she does not eat her full daily intake. But when i treat her chicken breast for training purposes she loves it and can eat that in no time The vet had said it is fine if she does not eat her full daily intake because she is healthy and happy and still playing. I can understand just dry eukanuba day and night can get a little dry and boring so i want to introduce wet food to her diet but unsure if it is just as nutritious as eukanuba. i bought a can of optiumum puppy formula yesterday and mixed it with 50% euk and 50% wet. She ate that in a flash!! but now i am worried if it healthy for her. I have considered barf patties rather than dog canned food but is that better or optimum canned dog food? If i go with barf patties should i mix euk in it or 100% barf for one day and other day 100% euk. please help!
  22. i am using advocate and having the same issue as cooperblue.. am i doing it wrong i have a maltese puppy so her fur is very loose. First i part her hair then i squirt the tube onto the skin. The line is about 2-4cm. The stuff is really watery so it kinda disperses onto skin and fur. leaving a big round wet patch. She then shakes after i apply it making even more of a mess. it then takes around 4hrs to dry. and smells!! so i avoid touching her when she is in drying mood.
  23. hi there i have a puppy and was also looking into this too the yearly injection is called a c5. You will need this once a yr to keep your puppy immune from diseases that she/he can catch. On top of this you will need a heart worm and intestinal worm treatment so your puppy does not get heartworm which can kill your puppy. Flea treatment is also important to keep your puppy happy and not scratching. I use the advocate once a month because it does 3 things in one. (covers heartworm, selected intestinal worm and flea treatment). Because it is only once a month it is much easier for me to remember. In order to cover tape worm i use drontal tablets. Because yours is a puppy you will need to feed drontal depending on your dog age. It is 8weeks, then 12weeks, thereafter it is every 3 months. Hope this helps... To make it more confusing.. there is a new vaccine introduced in australia which is an equivalent to C5. they call it nobivac.. and the vets say it is much better than normal c5. Not all vets use them cos it is still quite new. The nobivac is every 3 yrs when your puppy becomes an adult. Since your puppy has already taken its full vaccination, you can decide on nobivac 12 months later PM me if you need more info good luck!!
  24. i am tried every avenue i can think of and my 9week maltese still plays on the rug i don't want my maltese to play on the rug as she is still not 100% potty trained. I am supervising her when she is on the rug and has nearly had accidents. therefore i want her to stay off the rug until she is completely potty trained.. she likes to go on the rug to lie down, play with her toy, chew the rug etc.. i have provided her a mat for her to play on and lure her there.. after a while she jumps back onto the rug. i have tried 'off the rug' 'come' etc.. sometimes she will listen and sometimes not. i have also tried picking her up when she is on the rug and place her on the mat.. she then goes back to the rug. what is the best way to keep her off?
  25. ahh i have the same problem with my puppy. She is only 9 weeks old and keeps biting me i use the firm no, yelping and time out. but she still bites me on the legs, shoes, fingers etc..they are painful i distract her with toys when she is bites me. Am i doing it wrong? i have also tried holding out my hand in a flat plan and blocking her from biting but it doesn't really work
