  1. That was so beautiful! The bond and trust their dog shows is just so loyal and beautiful to watch. Thank you for sharing. And this is why I love dogs … they don't judge you!
  2. Esky I'm currently on my phone so can't post photos but the Sandy/Red Aussie Terriers look pretty much like a Norwich Terrier in colour. You should be able to google some red Aussies; there's also a breeder on DOL who breeds reds (Shandez I think). Actually I just found her website -- http://www.shandezaustralianterriers.com/ She shows reds only.
  3. Not sure with Aussie Terriers. My preference is blue and tan and I'm guessing it's the more popular colour as there are more around. Beagles I prefer tri colours!
  4. OMGosh yes! Milo and Otis!! A bloody brilliant film! :D Bought Red Dog yesterday and watched it last night. Such a gorgeous film but such a sad ending! His tale is very much like Hachi but in a different sort of way.
  5. With the exception of Group 2 (Terriers), my answers are in no particular order: GROUP 1: Toys Italian Greyhound Papillon Griffon Bruxellios GROUP 2: Terriers Australian Terrier (x millions!) Norwich Terrier Skye Terrier Glen of Imaal Scottish Terrier GROUP 3: Gundogs English Springer Spaniel Weimaraner (both coats) Hungarian Vizsla GROUP 4: Hounds Pharaoh Hound Borzoi Foxhound Saluki Group 5: Working Dogs Old English Sheep Dog Finnish Lapphund Belgian Shepherd (Malinois and Groenendael) Swedish Vallhund GROUP 6: Utility Russian Black Terrier Siberian Husky Akita Shiba Inu Samoyed GROUP 7: Non-Sporting Xoloitzcuintle Dalmation Japanese Spitz Keeshond French Bulldog Sorry but I couldn't keep most of my lists to three!!
  6. I forgot to add my other all time favourite: Disney's Fluppy Dogs. Does anyone here remember those 5 colourful dogs who travel through inter-dimensional doorways with a key? Stanly (loyal fluppy) -- blue Tippi (loving fluppy) -- purple Ozzie (cool fluppy) -- green Bink (shy fluppy) -- yellow Dink (playful fluppy) -- red
  7. Zeus zoomies are by far the best! He's a beagle x JRT and he out zoomies greyhounds! :D
  8. So you decided to go with the Zorro theme?! Good choice. You can dress him up as Antonio Bandanas! :D Edited to say your boy does look very handsome and rather chuffed with his bows! Such a happy boy!
  9. just be aware the paperwork inside the box says the safe use of comfortis in breeding males has not be evaluated, as well as consult your vet if using on pregnant or lactating dogs and in dogs with pre exisitng epilepsy. Thanks for that. Even though both my boy and girl ate desexed I'll remember it for if I ever have an entire dog. I do recall reading something like that but dismissed it as I havs desexed animals. Will keep an eye out for seizures though -- this is a worry. I only use the Comfortis as a last result too as I'm not having too much trouble with fleas just now. Am currently looking into either Advocate or Advantix (Advocate for mites and fleas or Advantix for ticks and fleas).
  10. I guess the thing I find annoying with all these treatments is that you need to just about use all of them in order to have an effective control of all bugs. I'm paranoid about ticks which is why I chose Frontline, however, I'm thinking it might be more beneficial to look into Advantage (for mite control). It doesn't do ticks though and I'm still unsure about Advantix as I have a cat. I just don't trust that she won't be hurt by it -- I'm just paranoid like that. Just to throw the question ouf there: can you use both Advantage and Advantix at the same time? My old Aussie Poochie had sarcoptic mites and didn't have an immune system able to fight them off so every year she'd break out. I guess I'm wanting to protect my current dogs from this while still being tick protected. Or is this just overkill?
  11. I rank this book up there with Black Beauty, which is high praise as BB is my all time favourite novel!! I love reading from an animal's POV as it provides such a different way of thinking about how humans treat animals. A lot of people tend to forget that they have feelings too! I'm glad you're reading this book as its just fantastic and I too especially love the cat bits!! :D Edited to add: keep some tissues handy! ;)
  12. I think too with going for a giant breed there's going to need a LOT of supervision. I'd hate for one to get injured due to unsupervised play -- I should imagine Danes puppies are at risk of similar injuries to Newfies? I'm not saying it can't be done either -- there's a lovely couple at our dog park with twins and a gorgeous whippet girl and the 5 of them have a great afternoon together! I'd definitely sit down with your friend and talk seriously to her and find out how much thought she's put into this decision. If you openly discuss your concerns maybe you'll have a chance to get her to see things from your POV. Ask her to tell you how much support she'll have from hubby and family too. Good luck!!
  13. You poor thing having to deal with that! Poor Bella too; she must've been feeling so sh*tty. Maybe now she's learned her lesson! I'll have to look at fencing off our fruit trees as Mister Zeus climbs the apple tree to get to the fruit. Since hearing about the possibility of arsenic poisoning I'm terrified he'll get this. He also helps himself to tomatoes and strawberries too and I'll have to keep an eye out on our mini peach tree -- it's never fruited in its entire 5-7 year life but you never know. I'm so glad Bella is ok!!
  14. It's certainly a great movie minimiss but it might be hard to find. I had to import my copy from the US. But it's so worth it!!
  15. I have a question about getting involved in agility. Do you have to have a pure bred dog to compete in agility trials? I ask because I've got a beagle x JRT who'd be absolutely fantastic at the sport -- he's very gangly but graceful and jumps like a gazelle. I'd love to get him into agility but not sure where to start. Also, do agility clubs let people do the sport just for fun? Because even if we don't compete, I think it'd be awesome for him!
  16. One of my all time favourites from since I was little is a lovely film called C.H.O.M.P.S. For years I thought it was a Disney flick and searched everywhere until I ordered it from Amazon (and found out it's by MGM!). It's a delightful movie about the world's first computerised watchdog and the little scruffy terrier playing Chomps is so cute!! Also has tear-jerker moments so tissues required! :D
  17. I had a tick scare yesterday with Zeus. He started swaying on his feet and eventually passed out at the dog park; I was beyond panic stricken. I rushed him to the nearest vet (5 minutes up the road luckily) completely hysterical thinking he's been bitten by a snake or tick or something else much more serious. Turns out the poor boy is allergic to bee stings! Heck of a way to find out! I have been checking both my bubbas on a regular basis for ticks though. Zeus loves the massaging and Kirah just gets squirmy! She does love her ear rubs though! :D Thanks so much for all the advice on searching for ticks. It's been really helpful in giving me somewhere to start. Ta muchly!
  18. I am so sorry about the bad new kirsty79. The best thing you can do for her is to be there and let her know how much you love her (which I'm sure she already knows!). Perhaps you might like to consider a "Talking Stone" plaque to place in your garden. I think they're lovely sentiments and helped me through the grieving process.
  19. For fleas I've made the switch to Comfortis -- it's a tablet and works like a charm!! For ticks I use Frontline Plus, which is cat safe.
  20. I think this is a really good idea! I especially like that applicants MUST attend a free workshop or have their card cancelled. Australia definitely needs something like this to help weed out the bad dog owners! Oh and I'd totally use it!
  21. Sorry to hijack the thread but can I just that Bella is absolutely  GazelleHound?! Back to the OP!
  22. You could dress him up as Zorro! And you could be Catherine Zeta Jones! ;)
  23. I really feel for you and the tough position you're in -- especially that you've had to leave your babies behind. That must've been so hard on you (and them!). There's no right or wrong answer to help you here but the only people who can make the right decisions are you and your ex. I'd definitely wait until you have her checked over by the vet of your choice but ask for a kidney function test because if there's excessive thirst, loss of weight and appetite, then you could be looking at kidney failure. If it is, then unfortunately there's not a lot to be done -- you can try dialysis but then you have to weigh up everything else. She might also have stomach cramps, which prevent her from lying down. The most important advice I can give you though is to listen to your heart. Good luck with her other vet appointment and please let us know how she goes.
  24. And the remainder of the photos! :D The terrible two!
  25. I've just got around to taking photos of my terrible two. They're not the most co-operative but I did manage to score some nice ones. Please just ignore the workbench they're sitting on! Eventually Kirah got over the funny thing on her head and decided that with all the treats, it wasn't really so bad after all! :D The first photo taken, before I thought about using a blanket as a backdrop.
