  1. We went to the Illawarra one too, those Leonburgers were so spectacular and so was the Boerbull! Saw the biggest wolfhound I have ever seen and all the dogs seemed so well behaved. Jed just took it all in his stride and I think the whippets enjoyed themselves too. Weren't the leonburgers stunning! I missed the boerbull though I resisted the urge to cuddle the wolfies and saw some gorgeous great Danes too. I heard the 'hot dog' won the costume contest. We got lots of lovely comments about the greys (and I am sure you did too snippet). I would have loved a dollar for everytime I got asked if Oscar the iggy was a whippet - but always nice to introduce people to a breed they haven't seen before. The boerbulls are owned and bred by the lady who owns/runs Naughty Dog School. I took Kirah there for training when she was about 6 months and was introduced to them there. The puppy was *much* littler then!! I think she said he's only 10 months old too! I did see a few greys but only from a distance -- I walked past one with its green collar and saw another on the other side of the park with a muzzle. Very stunning though. I also may have seen your Iggies CBL -- I do remember seeing greyish mottled ones (maybe??) and saying OMG whippets so am not sure. There was also a gorgeous Wolfhound puppy who fell asleep on this little boy's lap after the walk. I was sitting on the grass near the agility set-up and they were sitting nearby. The pup was cuddled up on the boy upside-down completely buggered! It was so cute!
  2. OMGosh! You totally walked right past us before the walk started it was prolly about 9:30ish-- I was along the wall near the water. My friend was trying to work out if it was a Chow from the distance and from far away I thought she looked like a little Samoyed. As she got to us though I could tell a Chow but have never seen one that colour. She's beautiful!!
  3. I was at the Illawarra walk and we had a group of GORGEOUS Leonburgers There were about 10 I think. Plus the lady from a dog training school/breeder with her lovely South African Boerbulls. Such beautiful sooky dogs!! Edited to say: Kirah, Zeus and I spent the day with a friend and her most lovely and cuddly Akita!! Apparently they aren't supposed to be cuddly and sooky, but she's beautiful!
  4. I don't get why people insist buying premium dog food is expensive. I end up feeding a lot less of it because it's not crap therefore it lasts longer. And I have 2 dogs on 2 different types (mini and medium). Canned food is bad for teeth, especially if the dog isn't given bones to gnaw on regularly. Zeus is built like a whippet -- but a bit more barrel-chested -- and he burns off everything he eats. He also only gets 1/4 cup of his RC twice daily and turkey wings for his teeth. A 15 kilo bag lasts him 6 months, which I think is fantastic. Also, you need to play around with food amounts until you find out what works. It's guess-work. If she's not gaining weight, you aren't feeding her enough and as she's fed crap, she'll more than likely need 3 times recommend on the guide as it's going straight out the back end. If your sister isn't going to change the feeding of this poor dog, maybe she should not have it. I'd just like to see her expression when faced with a huge dental bill from feeding canned. ETA: agree with the yoghurt. Get her onto some Jalna natural. Don't bother about the fat free because she can use all the fat she can get!!
  5. That's so good to hear thundercat. Sounds like you got a fantastic deal with your new man. I still can't get over his moron owners. Giving up on a gorgeous boy because of arthritis of all things ...
  6. It's so lovely to read that Lochi has found such a gorgeous new forever home with you thundercat!! How are his teeth? If they're in need of a dental you could look at having it done when he goes in for the snip. Yay Lochi!! Welcome home buddy!
  7. Happy 1st birthday Coco!! Enjoy your huge milestone birthday by being spoiled by your family!!! :D
  8. What a gorgeous boy!! And he looks so gentle too! Love the photo of the kitty kisses its so sweet. He certainly looks like he's made himself at home. I'm really happy things have worked out well for you. It looks like he's always been a part of your life!!
  9. Oh no this girl is very tiny considering it's supposed to be a Cane Corso. She'd be lucky to weigh 5 kilos is my guess -- she's only about the same size as my Kirah who's 6-7 kilos and her paws didn't seem too big yet. They weren't at the park this arvo so I couldn't give them some helpful info but I hope she's doing okay. As for the SBT who laid into her yesterday, his owner is a nob. He whacks the dog around the head and yells at it and the dog gets quite aggressive when something sets him off. I really feel for the staffy because he has the potential to be a gorgeous boy but his poor owner doesn't help him.
  10. I loved reading Bitty's story and how she came to steal your heart. It's very similar to Kirah and myself -- I was disappointed in her when she came home but once she was introduced to Zeus, I saw her feistiness and I fell in love! Happy 3rd Birthday Bitty!! Hope you get really spoiled!!!
  11. I'm really hoping I see him there again tomorrow so I can let him know that his puppy isn't fully vaccinated. The girl is so tiny still and was huddled between his (owner's) legs with her tail down too. Poor thing was terrified and had no idea what to do. Luckily the owners of the dogs who frequent the park all kept their dogs away from it! I'd be worried about the little girl picking up diseases -- you can't just assume that all the other dogs have been vaccinated too. And as much as I'd love to give the owner a what for, I'd really love to be able to sit down and talk to him rationally about what could happen and what he needs to do now for his pup. First thing would be a vet visit to check her over. I'm not sure if Cane Corsos have any health problems that should be tested for (hip displaysia?) but she should be checked over.
  12. I'm so sorry to hear about your gorgeous Lola, Lisey. Run free beautiful girl!
  13. I met an owner of a 7 week old Cane Corso puppy this afternoon at my local off leash park. He had the poor, tiny, scared thing on the ground amongst all the regular dogs and she had no idea what hit her. Sadly, she met up with one of the park's bullies: a horribly aggro entire male SBT, who had a go at her because he "doesn't like puppies". I didn't interact with her owner much but listened on in horror as he explained that she's "had all her vaccinations" and cost $500 plus $100 to fly her from QLD. I also heard him say that he was glad to find an Cane Corso for that price as all the other puppies he'd been quoted between $2500 to $5000. I live in NSW and as I understand, it's against the law to sell a puppy under the age of 8 weeks. Does QLD have any such laws?
  14. Sasha's Blend, Glyde are all quite good for dogs with arthritis. Maybe when his "owners" come round to sign him over to you, ask about which vet he's been to so you can go and discuss his condition. Thank you for stopping and helping this guy! What's his name and can we have pictures pretty please? :D
  15. Lol that's a good point Erny. I guess I just assumed that because he sleeps outside that my Zeusling would need a coat. He's far smarter than me!! I hope all your woofers go well this winter -- I have a feeling we're in for a blooming cold one.
  16. That's really beautiful. Swahili is a gorgeous language!! Will def give you a shout out if I see you!!
  17. A pet bond could be hard to enforce because even if it's instated, landlords still have the right to decline pets if they choose. I love your rental style Greytmate -- you probably even find that your renters are some of the nicest, most considerate to your property as they're aware of what damages could potentially happen.
  18. Scratchcat I'm so sorry for your loss. Rotties are gorgeous loving dogs and he'll be missed. Love and hugs to you and your family. May he RIP and his memory live on.
  19. Just a question re: dog coats. Do you ever worry that your guys get too hot in them? I've tried what seems like thousands on Zeus but he continually eats the strap during the night and wiggles out of them. I'm wondering if he does this as he gets too hot wearing them and that's his only way of getting it off. I've stopped buying him coats as he loves to snuggle into his fluffy blankets and he radiates warmth of a morning when I give him his breakfast.
  20. If you're in the Illawarra look out for me as I'll be there too!! Your pharaohs are gorgeous!! Love her name too -- can you sound it out for me so I know how to say it? Does it mean something special?
  21. Thanks Jumabaar! That's the info I'd heard in regards to heartworm -- that it's the worms that cause blockages. I couldn't remember but knew it was somehow related to treatments. I'm just collecting info because it's almost time for my two to renew their annual injection, which I'm not doing anymore.
  22. See that's why mine sleep outside!! If they were inside dogs, I'd prob have to buy myself a giant sized Snooza D1000
  23. Articles like these really provide no help to prospective dog/puppy buyers. Is it any wonder the general public get so confused about choosing an ethical pure-bred dog breeder or one of the many cross-breed/designer dogs out there.
  24. Awwww! What a stunning ball of fluff! He's so gorgeous! OT: What breeds are your other two? Mya looks like a White Swiss Shep? Congrats on your newest addition!
  25. AFAIK I thought a test for heartworm is required before using ANY heartworm preventative because one of the ingredients can actually kill a dog if it is infected. I don't use Advocate anyway so it's all good for me and as it's winter I've stopped using flea and tick preventatives. I've got Comfortis and Capstar on hand just in case.
