Will let you know what happens with customs. The reply I got from the seller was that they've shipped to Oz before without trouble so I have my fingers crossed!

I loved that too -- did these people give the poor girl no training whatsoever?

Horse meat?? Have never even heard of this before.

Do You Speak The Language
RiverStar-Aura replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Australian Terrier ... I'm all good! :D Trinabean -- I did German in years 7 and 8 and like you, can still count, sing the alphabet and name various animals. Oh and then there's the standard Ich bin _____ too! I would love to extend my ability but I need to find the time. I'm much better at translating German from the written word as it's so very similar to English. -
I also really love the idea of postcards collected and placed in a photo album. Being a postcard, we'll each be able to write our own special messages on the back. It's a really lovely idea! :D Edited to say: I too have had horrible experiences here on DOL, however, I'll admit that it's mostly because of myself and HUUUUGE over-reacting. I'm learning to keep my cool and my mouth shut -- well ... more like think about what I say before I say it. On the other hand, I've met some truly fantabulous people and learned a LOT about so many different breeds (Wazzat's gorgeous Xolos come to mind!!). For that information I'll be forever grateful, and I'll always relish being able to talk to people who share my love for dogs as much as I do!!

The Heart Stopped Beating On Another 4 Legged Angel Last Night
RiverStar-Aura replied to bel's topic in Rainbow Bridge
RIP precious Pugsly! May you keep watch on your family from above and protect them for all time. Bel to you and your family! -
RIP gorgeous Sascha And thank you to the lovely man, who took the time to give you a call regarding your beloved girl. So many people don't give a second thought about cats so even though the news wasn't good, the fact he called, has made been a bit of a silver lining.

Zooming Whippets And Saluki's
RiverStar-Aura replied to Juddabug Whippets's topic in General Dog Discussion
Beautiful shots!!! Little Chipper is a cutie! :D -
Nah I wouldn't really want it back -- I really don't see myself with another puppy as I'm quite content with 2 dogs!! I plan on washing it in a laundry bag so it should come up nicely. It's probably as tough as any stuffed toy but as I found, by wearing Kirah out before bed, she'd sleep soundly so didn't destroy it; she was far too busy sleeping!! If she does destroy the Snuggle Puppy that's ok because I know it's gone to a pup in need!! Just try and rescue the heart because then it can be placed inside any soft toy with an opening as it's battery operated and not connected to the toy dog and is completely removable.

One called SwallowHealthyDiet. He has 100% feedback and has sold a lot of these. So far I've had excellent communication from him too. I bought THIS ONE! -- price of 72-ish dollars seemed reasonable for the size of the tub.

I've just ordered 2 420 gram tubs from eBay. Fingers crossed they get through customs!!!

Whippet Won't Gain Weight
RiverStar-Aura replied to mumtoshelley's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I just looked in the other thread about raw food and there's pics of Missy the whippet. Missy/Misty ... Very similar in names. -
I just had a look at ozpetshop.com and it appears they no longer stock snuggle puppies. SJP118 -- if you're interested, I'd be happy to give you Kirah's old snuggle puppy. It's in fantastic condition and the heart still beats fine too. I won't be needing it for a good long time -- two dogs is plenty for me!! -- so I'm happy to wash it and pass it on. All you'd need to buy then are the heat pads to go inside it. I used the self heating ones and they worked great!!
-
My advice is to make sure you don't get too excited just yet. Things can go wrong during this time and as I've had it happen to me, I was bitterly saddened to find I wasn't getting a pup. When I did finally get my pup, I ordered a snuggle puppy for her from www.ozpetshop.com.au I wanted it immediately so I phoned them and they expressed posted it to me. Fantastic service!! The snuggle puppy is a great thing though!! It comes with self heating sachets and a life-like beating heart. I really recommend it for keeping puppy warm during winter. I brought my girl home at the end of June with winter in full swing. What breed are you looking at getting?

I just use a Pet Life pin brush from Big W but I have a wire haired Aussie Terrier! I also use a comb with loose, rotating teeth for tangles and a flea comb for making sure all her fur is separated nicely. Just got a Mikki stripping blade from eBay for hand stripping and I also have a shedding rake, slicker, Furminator and numerous people combs of varying width teeth. The pin brush and flea comb combo work best though!

Oops, I Think I Just Fed My Dog An Off Bone
RiverStar-Aura replied to Inka3095's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've never had a dog who buries bones. Poochie used to just chomp away til she was done; she was an only dog though. When Zeus was introduced, about 10 months before I lost her, she still never buried her bones. Neither Zeus nor Kirah bury their bones either. My dogs must be weird!! Random thought of the day: the longer I stare at the words bury, buried and buries, the more bloody weird and spelled wrong they look!! -
Introducing Pug Puppy To Older Dogs
RiverStar-Aura replied to luvs_mutts's topic in General Dog Discussion
I didn't do anything when introducing my two. Kirah was a tiny thing and Zeus is a tall and lanky 15 kilo boy -- all I was worried about was him knocking her off our retaining wall in his excitement. On our paved, flat area, I knelt down with Kirah in my arms and let Zeus sniff her. His tail was going a million miles per hour and they hit it off immediately. Zeus played the gentle, big brother and showed her around; he was glad for the company I think. Because of their size difference though they NEVER had unsupervised play until Kirah was about 5 months old. -
What Is The Age Difference Between Your Dogs?
RiverStar-Aura replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
There's roughly 21 months difference between Zeus and Kirah. Things could've been much different though as I'd been hoping for a puppy late 2010; my breeder had rotten luck though. It couldn't have worked out more perfectly though as it turned out I wasn't ready for a second dog. It gave me time for more 1 on 1 bonding with Zeus after having just lost my beloved Poochie and I worked on his obedience and socialisation. I'm grateful for that extra 6 to 8 months with just Zeus and it allowed me to actually decide if I was ready for a second dog. -
I don't know about others, but my local council does offer a rebate of sorts. I fail to see the difference between a discounted rego fee and a rebate for desexed animals. This also doesn't take into account the owners of large breed dogs in which a much later desexing is advised due to their extended growth period over say a chihuahua or small terrier.

Zeus gets like this and he's almost 3 years old. The best thing I do is to put him on his lead and have him sit beside me until he calms down. He gets so revved up in off-leash play that he can't help himself -- but I won't allow it. Once he's calmed down I let him off again and he's good.

Nice idea, but would get mighty hard and laborious to follow once the thread has a number of "wotami's" on the go at the one time. Maybe a new sub-forum then?
-
Rather than starting multiple 'wotami' threads, what if there was one permanently pinned in General. That way, there's only one 'wotami' thread instead of a new one popping up every 3 seconds. To me the term 'cross breed' refers to something that has been deliberately crossed: eg labrador x poodle. Mutt/mongrel/Heinz are to me defined as a mix of the unknown. IMO councils should recognise 'mutts' because sometimes there's just no knowing and people shouldn't be forced to label them. It does seem though that these days, people are more interested in labelling their dogs as something. 'Mutt' seems insuffient in today's society.

Heard today that gorgeous Otto, who used to frequent my local dog park before he moved away, has recently passed from heart attack. He was such a sweet, fun-loving and happy chap and will be missed. Run free handsome boy! My thoughts to his devastated family.
