  1. For someone who has no idea, what exactly is Ethoxyquin, BHA and BHT? Is it something I should worry about with my dogs? They're both fed Royal Canin Sensible (medium and mini).
  2. My two have each have a Rogz Lite and I walk with an Energizer head lamp (bought from Big W for $35) around my wrist. That way it acts as both a torch for me and a light for motorists to see me. It runs on 2 AAA batteries (included) but when these die, I'm switching to recharables. :D
  3. Charlie sounds like a gorgeous character!! He was probably just zoning out or staring into the negative space between all things!
  4. I just want to say good on you for researching so much first rather than just go straight in and get a pup!! My own dog Zeus was an impulse, pet shop puppy before I knew anything about backyard breeders and puppy farms. He's supposed to be a beagle x jack russell terrier however he looks a bit beagle but no idea on the JRT. Cross breeds are definitely like pot luck -- there's definitely no way of guaranteeing what you're going to get. I do love the look of the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever but do look into the Aussie Shepherd too!!
  5. Look into an Aussie Terrier. They're fantastically tough but love a good snuggle too. Will be happy inside or outside and are pretty much health issue free. A lot of people don't know about the breed, which is sad, but I love that everyone I meet fall in love with Kirah's cheekiness, determination and bouncy stride. Their average weight is around the 7 kilo mark and they truly are a big dog, crammed in a terrier body!
  6. Heya, Can't post in the breeders' forum but I have some name ideas and I can't PM you either. Jubilee (after the girl in X-Men) Jubilation on High Cherries Jubilee (a dessert with cherry liqueur or also a pony from My Little Pony) Sense of Jubilation A Jubilant Life Just Jubilant Hope some of those are helpful!!
  7. Thanks for that English Ivy -- I had no idea. And since I only ever eat Darrell Lea liquorice it never occurred to me to look at the sugar content!
  8. That's hillarious!!! Only a dedicated DOLer would be up at the crack of dawn measuring a dog additive spoon!! It really is a bloomin' tiny spoon though -- even smaller than my measuring spoon of 1/4 of a teaspoon.
  9. But isn't that what liquorice is? Molasses, which is a sugar?
  10. At first glance I thought this was a thread about a large dog puking!!
  11. It's called QV Wash. I use it on myself coz I have horribly senso skin. Never tried on the dogs though but could be good :)
  12. Poor corgi being dumped for a cat -- and a black one no less!! Thanks for sharing.
  13. My old dog Poochie was like your sheltie Michelleva. She'd guard her territory but if they headed up the driveway she was all "ZOMG FRIEND!!!" World's friendliest dog she was!!
  14. My guys live outside and are only allowed inside for about 30 minutes -- my mum's not an inside dog person. They don't mind as they live running around like boofheads in the rain. If it's absolutely nasty out, they get the garage and their beds and blankets in there!
  15. I don't know how you'd feel having a bone in the house bug a nice, large bone for chewing could deter him. I'd guess he's started chewing again because he's bored. If he's a very smart dog, lots of trick training can wear his brain out!! My dogs are outside dogs though so I'm only guessing at suggestions.
  16. I don't see anything wrong with feeding twice daily -- my guys get breakfast and dinner and get upset if I don't give them their breakfast!! The best way to tell would to just keep an eye on his weight and monitor it closely. Even if he does put on some weight, you can always cut back the amount of food you're feeding eg try 1/2 a cup twice daily until his weight improves. But that's only if he starts gaining.
  17. Iggy Mum it took about a week for them to arrive. I was highly impressed!!
  18. I don't know about poo marking but Zeus has poop standards. He craps on the most immaculately manicured lawn he can find -- a nice big turd in the middle of the grass. It's so embarrassing for me picking up crap from this lawn. Which is funny coz at the dog park he gets all bashful and craps behind the bushes so no one can see him doing it!
  19. MtS, Missy is a dog. If she's hungry, she'll eat -- it's really not that hard. Even my cat isn't as picky as your dog seems to be, and she's a CAT. Callie even eats carrot and all sorts of things a cat normally wouldn't touch. A dog should be 10 times easier to feed. And I really hope you're doing the gradual introduction of new food like is recommended so as not to upset her guts any more than this yo-yo diet experiment.
  20. I really don't see why it's so difficult to feed these dogs. My dogs live on kibble and get a frozen chicken/turkey wing every second or third day. The reason Missy probably isn't eating is because she's been trained to be fussy. When I brought Kirah home, I thought I'd try raw, but as I get home from work very late, my dad was having to feed her and couldn't work it out. Kibble is far easier for him to manage. I also found on the occasions I was home to feed her, that she started getting VERY picky with her meals. She started turning her nose up at kibble as she was used to having it mixed with something different every day -- everything from raw meat (mince, chicken or diced beef), yoghurt, coconut oil, tuna or mackerel. Now all she gets is kibble and a dollop of yoghurt when I'm home -- dad doesn't give the yoghurt -- and since I've stopped dicking around with her food, she hoovers it down. Did it occur to you that a possible reason for Missy being sick is because you keep changing her food? Pick something and stick with it; your dog isn't going to know what foods she's missing out on.
  21. I'd be wary of feeding a turkey leg. Those things are HUGE and have a lot of meat on them. Then again, I have smaller dogs so they make do with a turkey wing for one and a chicken wing for the other.
  22. The two 420g tubs of ProDen I ordered through eBay arrived this afternoon. I was expecting the shipping to take at least another 2/3 weeks from England. UK's postal service is fantastic!!! :D Edited to say that I had no trouble getting my parcel through customs either; they didn't even inspect it!
  23. I've tried coats with Zeus and have been through what seems like hundreds as he continually chewed them off. I've finally come to realise that poor boy probably got too hot and could only chew his way out of them. It's been far more cost effective to stock up on fluffy blankets!! I am interested in investing in raincoats for them both though as they love to play in the rain!!
