  1. I totally agree Alyosha. What will it take for parents to realise that dogs and children don't mix. Obviously death doesn't get the matter across
  2. Just as something to think about ... When you move out with the dogs where will you go? Trying to rent with 2 dogs could prove difficult if you are indeed going to rent.
  3. I have a BSB in my Getz and it's bloody fantastic!! I rarely have more than one human passenger so it doesn't bother me that it's not easy to remove. Even though it has no access to the seatbelt clackers, I use a KURGO ZIP LINE to secure my dogs to. Edit: I don't have my BSB attached to the anchor points of my car. I'm too lazy for that so I improvised  They're very sturdy, regardless of dog weight Danois, although the combined weight of my guys is around 20 kilos!
  4. Is the KC vaccine the spray up the nose? I'm sure I've seen this used on Zeus as a puppy but now he gets a C5 vaccine but no nasal spray
  5. Re: Permoxin I've been hearing to apply it as necessary but not for what duration. Is it fortnightly like Advantix or more frequently? Also, it's obviously toxic to cats too but is if the same as Advantix in that once dry is fine? I'm looking into alternatives/extra protection to Advantix so thought I'd ask. Have looked into Frontline Spray but apparently it's daily application for ticks
  6. That's not really the point DD. You shouldn't be kicking anyone! Edit: not you as in you specifically DD.
  7. I always thought Canberra was chosen for Australia's capital as it was equidistant from Melbourne and Sydney. Don't tell me they lied!! In that case Albury/Wodonga region, Yass, Gundegai
  8. You could look around Canberra/Queanbean area. Smack bang in the middle of both Melbourne and Sydney
  9. You kicked an old man to the point of knocking him down?! Teenager at the time or not I find that as disgusting as belting the dog.
  10. I have an instigator here too but not in regards to barking. Kirah is a turd -- she answers to this too -- and when she wants to play but poor Zeus doesn't she starts on him. Usually Zeus will be chilling out in his bed and Kirah the Turd will trot up, jump all over him and start biting his ankles. She knows this gets a reaction and Zeus reciprocates in kind by rolling onto his back and play bitey face with her. This game turns into pushing and kicking in what I call "The Battle of the Bed" with Zeus trying to beat Kirah up. He always lets her win because he's sweet like that but sometimes I've seen him pull the blanket out from under her and lie on it with a huge "ner ner ni ner ner" grin. They're both boofheads in this regard!
  11. I quite like the robot and if I could be bothered to add the FB app I'd keep the Scottie and replace the thimble for robot. But, I'd still prefer to keep the oldies -- especially the 1935 original tokens
  12. I have a friend who lives in Penrith and she buys her dog mince from a place called JDs in Llandilo. The quality is quite good and she's very happy with it. She did try another meat place with cheaper prices and much better quality kangaroo mince for her cats but she found them very unreliable when it came to placing orders in advance for the mince. As it's very fresh roo mince, they don't keep a lot of it in stock so orders need to be placed, but this place was very lax in that orders weren't received.
  13. If they want new playing tokens, why not sell them individually? They could make more money that way and still have all the classics. Our Monopoly set only has 6 coloured plastic cones to play with. It's from around 1960 when Edwards Dunlop first took over from John Sands as Monopoly distributors.
  14. This is such a sad and shocking thing to have happened. What sort of people think it's okay to leave a dog tethered above ground on a choke chain? I'm at a complete loss for words over the sheer incompetence of this groomer. I can't even begin to understand what you're going through Caz but my thoughts have been with you the whole day. You have my deepest sympathies and support.
  15. Beautiful tribute to your gorgeous Inka. I really found the story about your dad bringing them inside so very moving and heartwarming. run free dear girl!
  16. OMG! I am so sorry to hear about your beautiful Buddy. RIP gorgeous boy.
  17. I'm going to book Kirah in for a re-check of her eye on Tuesday. I'll ask about dry eye too just because I want everything ruled out. Dyzney, after her duct wash flushed, my vet told me it was fully blocked but didn't mention anything regarding it being not patent -- will ask on Tuesday when we go back. Over the weekend I've noticed her eye seems a bit gunky and quite red inside leading me to believe something else is going on. I really hope to have this sorted out soon!
  18. Taj is a gorgeous boy and sounds exactly like my beagle JRT cross. He's a nutso fetcher too, however, he doesn't go as far as sticks -- only toys. I found the best way to curb his habit is to give him a toy box. That way, I control his play and at the end of each game, the toy goes back into the box until next time. He still has toys around the backyard, ones he has no interest in fetching, but I've found that by keeping his favourite fetch toys "locked up", his interest in fetch time is much more motivated and revved up once the toy comes out of the box. Zeus won't quit playing fetch because every time I pick the toy up he gets excited and bounces around as if saying "ooo boy, she's throwing my toy" but once I pick it up and say "ok, no more" and put the toy away, he'll calm down. If I didn't, he'd keep going to beyond exhaustion. Taj also seems to have that gorgeous, keen and highly intelligent spark in his eyes. You have a VERY smart dog here. To wear him out he'll need lots of brain work through training sessions -- Zeus is exactly the same and as such, he has a huge trick list. Try adding other tricks such as playing dead, spinning, beg, crawl, and even leg weaving. Anything to stimulate his brain. I'm currently teaching Zeus to recognise words for certain treats -- we're working on "yoghurt" at the moment. I put a selection of treats out and allow him only to sniff them, then I say "yoghurt" and feed him the yoghurt drop. Five minutes later I say yoghurt and he's actively starting to seek the yoghurt drop out himself. I might work on "Greenie" next!!!
  19. I've never understood why people let their dogs socialise with everything in the waiting room. I keep my dogs away from the others purely because I don't know what they're there for. If the other dogs have highly contagious diseases, I don't want my guys picking it up too. It's the same as a doctor's surgery. If I can help it, I'm not going to deliberately sit next to someone who is coughing and spluttering and oozing everywhere -- especially if I'm only at the doc's because I'm in need of a new script. I don't want to end up sick so why should I risk my dog? The mind boggles at the sheer lack of logic and common sense.
  20. No she hasn't been. The vet put what looked like litmus paper in her eye and said that the green dye should come out her nostril, which it didn't. She was also sedated to have her duct flushed, which is when my vet told me it was completely blocked and to try the Amacin. What is dry eye and can it be fixed?
  21. Thanks for the info regarding the ulcers -- I've been worried that I did something wrong during the healing process. I've been continuing with the gentle massage of her nose and the Amacin twice daily -- I was told to keep using it until the tube has run out then to see what happens. Kirah wasn't born with a blocked duct, it's showed up just recently, hence my worry about the ulcer causing it as it's happened shortly after she had the ulcer. Thanks for all the advice. Will keep using the Amacin and let you know how Kirah gets on.
  22. When the dogs are on a lead I won't usually say hi or pat them -- I feel awkward. Off-leash I love to say hi to all the regulars because we all know each other very well (both dogs and owners).
  23. Kirah's been on the Amacin now for half a month and unfortunately it looks like there's no change. When I think her blocked duct is clearing the next day she'll be back to a watery eye. It also seems worse during the day but I guess this is because she's sleeping at night. Next step will be another vet visit then probably an eye specialist.
  24. I'd be interested in this too as I'd love to see my guys at the snows. I do have a feeling though that everything will be booked out for the next year so will need to plan in advance.
  25. That's why I still think the Aussie Terrier would be highly suitable. They're very tough and robust and are a joy for all kids. My youngest brother was 3 and my oldest brother was 11 when we got Poochie and she had 5 kids to play with every day of her 16 year life. We'd wake up, go play with Poochie then go to school. As soon as we were home we'd be outside playing backyard soccer -- 3 vs 2 + Poochie! :D I feel that as long as a dog isn't left ignored in the backyard, it'll be fine. Dogs inside is becoming so common now but it wasn't once -- the majority of dogs lived outside. That's what dogs did. Society has changed to allow for more companionship and closer bonding -- as dog owners, we've come far! There's definitely nothing wrong with an inside/outside balance and as long as the dog/puppy is getting the love, attention and training it requires, it'll grow up lovely. This family sounds perfect for a dog and I wish them well with whatever breed they choose!!
