  1. I may just have to steal little Neko. She's such a cutie! I'll have to work out how to upload a video from my iPad of Kirah vs the DVD player. It's her archenemy
  2. You'll just have to be extra vigilant around bees from now on. My Zeus was stung by a bee on the foot and that resulted in him going into full blown anaphylaxis; his face swelled and went bright red and blotchy, he struggled to breathe and eventually passed out and was non responsive. I'm paranoid now whenever he comes limping over towards me because I automatically think bee sting and almost freak out. It usually turns out to be a bindi in his paw, but I can't afford now not to worry. I totally feel your pain Yonjuro and I wish Ronin and speedy recovery.
  3. I'm so sorry j. Ginger Puss was stunning and he was well loved and worshipped as all cats should be.
  4. You guys have no idea how pleaded I am to hear that you're getting the same awesome results I did when I decided to give Erny's Tea a go. Kirah has never smelt better and I feel much happier knowing that I can give her a fortnightly rinse without the worry of stripping natural oils from her coat. As she spends most of her time foraging and fossicking around outside, she gets a distinctive Aussie Terrier smell very quickly -- I think it's because she likes to patrol around the backyard looking for anything to eat. Between her and Zeus they raid our apple and macadamia trees. I will still give her a bath with my preferred wire coat shampoo but that will happen maybe twice a year now. Thanks Erny and Steve!!
  5. I'm thinking it sounds like the move and the change of kibble has probably stressed them out. You mentioned that you've given them a cheap brand of kibble; was there a slow change over like recommended or did you just give it to them? I agree with the rice and boiled chicken -- it helped Kirah when she had the squirts.
  6. Stan is really beautiful!!! Hope you got really spoiled today sweet boy!
  7. Most embarrassing was when Zeus ran off into the Westfield carpark and raided the Coles bin on their dock. He came running back to me with an entire loaf of wholemeal bread dangling in his mouth. He dropped it at my feet intending for me to open the bag; he was so proud of himself. I almost died of embarrassment ETA: he's brought back 1/2 eaten Chinese food containers, the odd bread roll and yoghurt containers but the park had around 150 people at the time and everyone was pointing and laughing. Some even came over to find out what he had.
  8. I have a small vial of Poochie's ashes that I wear on days I wake up feeling like s***. It hangs on a leather cord with one each of Zeus's and Kirah's spare name tags and just having it around my neck makes my day feel so much better because the clinking around my neck turns my bad thoughts to my dogs. Sometimes I find it's the little reminders that help the most and I find that because the name tags I chose for Zeus and Kirah look more like pendants I don't get asked by strangers about them. It's a private and peaceful memorial.
  9. Regarding the bolded part, if this happened to dogs you were breeding from, would this action be enough to stop you from breeding from them in the future? I'm genuinely asking because I know breeders work hard to produce stable temperaments in their puppies so I'm wondering how this behaviour fits in temperament wise.
  10. That's so horrible. And to think these two aggressive dogs have just had a litter.
  11. Definitely separate and rather than buying those special bowls as they can be pricey, try putting their kibble/food in an upside-down muffin/cupcake pan.
  12. I'd see it at being mostly Lilypily's fault (sorry). If we forget the fact that the incident happened at a training club, if this was just a person sitting at a park on the grass with their dog and someone else got too close, I wouldn't be blaming the person on the ground. If I see people sitting with their dogs (or even just sitting in general be it on a bus, train wherever) I make a point of not sitting on top of them or going near them. I'd be angry if someone stood too close to my dogs and I if we're just sitting around trying to mind our own business.
  13. I'm angry right along with you HW. I've never met you or your greys but I've always loved them from the stories you share. You take such awesome care and have so much love for them -- something like this just shouldn't happen to good people. Greys, whippies and iggies have such thin skin too. Get better soon Miss Maddie and Sweet Stan. Edited because autocorrect decided Maddie is Maggie :/
  14. Oh also if your dog has a long neck you'll find you might need to go up in circumference size to prevent bending around to get at the wound. The only problem with this is that odds are your dog's neck will be too skinny for the correct width cloud.
  15. Totally agree with you there KC. As a lover of small terrier breeds it's s hugely common misconception that small = easy to live with, calm, less energy etc.
  16. I had the same issue with Zeus when he had a hot spot. I just duct taped the collar to a more suitable size than the pre-cut holes allowed. Edit: it became a narrower, longer cone rather than being huge and wide if that makes sense.
  17. In most states it is up to the new owner to transfer the dog, not the breeder. Breeder signs the back of the form and then new owner sends it in with the fee. That's my understanding of the process too, Rebanne. When I got Kirah nearly 3 years ago, her paperwork was a bit of a shamozzle because her breeder forgot to sign the paperwork when she'd sent it to me. I had to post it back for a signature and she had to post it back to me again. There was a lot of backwards and forwarding but it worked out in the end and she was quite apologetic. As there is a fee involved in the change of ownership process, I'd also expect it to be left up to the purchaser because even though the breeder could submit the paperwork, they're not responsible for the payment. I'm of the firm belief that ownership needs to be dealt with ASAP to avoid any issues that may arise later.
  18. I'll fourth Steve from K9 Pro too. I'm also I the Illawarra and made a nice little weekend getaway out of the visit to his complex!
  19. Badbee, I've just read you're in the Illawarra. I too live here and am yet to find a decent trainer so I'd recommend booking in to see/have a consult with Steve at K9 Pro. He's situated in Kurrajong and I made a weekend out of my visit -- there are a few dog friendly places you can stay up there.
  20. I LOVE!! this post HW. I think a lot of people are seduced by well trained and/or cute dogs and fail to think about what's really important. Choosing the right breed is not an easy task, especially for first time owners or for those who haven't had dogs for a while. I know choosing my next dog(s) will be made easier as I have the help of my current two in choosing desirable traits, features, personalities and looks. Other questions to ask yourself: Do you want the dog to be a snuggle dog for yourself and kids? If so, you might think about size If you look into the hound group, are you willing to work with its desire to scent track? Then there's the biggie: why do you want a dog? Is it 'just because', you want to show/compete in dog sports etc ... Whatever your reasons, they need to be taken into consideration too. There is so much to consider that I don't envy those in the process of choosing their first dog. I too agree heading to dog shows so you can experience many different breeds. You'll be introduced to all the different qualities that make each breed unique. Once you have some narrowed down ask yourself if the breed possesses traits you can live/work with. Best of luck with your search!!
  21. His owners have been contacted and the beautiful boy will be home in the morning. He was dropped at the local vet who have kept him the night.
  22. I've just had a friend post on FB a Husky boy she found running on the road and it looks like he could be THIS BOY This is the FB link: Scroll down to find Spirit! Hoping someone knows how to contact his owners.
  23. Have you tried putting her in a quiet, boring room whilst she's eating? If there's nothing stimulating for her to look at, she might start focussing on food. I'd also be inclined for another vet check just to make sure there's nothing wrong with her mouth or teeth. It seems very odd a puppy not wanting to eat anything at all.
  24. I'm trying to justify going on the 19th and 20th too. 19th has Norwich and Skye Terriers and the gorgeous Salukis are the 20th. So many gorgeous dogs to see and so little time!!
