  1. A lady that I do agility with put me on to these: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/301308342156?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=107 I just buy the cheapie ones from Woolworths in the mop aisle and it cost me about $6 although you can probably get them from the Reject Shop cheaper. Kirah loves tugging and killing them. Zeus not so much
  2. I'd also take him to the vet to have a test done for heartworm as a just in case -- unless you know he's been heartwormed. Especially so if he's been adopted from a warmer climate.
  3. I'd be inclined to break the cycle by YOU waking HIM but at a different time -- maybe try midnight if he's been waking at 1am and 3am. It sounds like he's waking at 3am not really to toilet but because he's learnt that 3am = playtime. A pup should be able to hold for longer than 2 hours.
  4. On the Otterhound, my first thought was that they kind of look a lab x poodle. The Otterhounds are so gorgeous though.
  5. Actually there was one in the country 3 years ago that ended up in a pound then a lady in NZ got him so he went there :) --Lhok Why would someone go through all the costs of importing a dog only to have it ending up in a pound? That just seems so bizarre to me.
  6. There's a DOLer who owns one but I can't for the life of me remember who it is. The dog's name is Erik though I think. Edit: it's Corvus who owns Erik the Swedish Vallhund. I did a forum search and he's in her sig that I found in the Spitz thread. They're a lovely looking dog!!
  7. A reply to aussielover, the Hovawart makes me think of dog that can hover and the name always gives me a chuckle! The breed I'd love to see is: Lancashire Heeler: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancashire_Heeler
  8. Oh wow Kavik! The Pyrenean Shepherd is so sleek and agile!! Even though you talk about your love of agility and wanting suitable breeds I was still expecting it to look and be similarly built to the Pyrenean Mountain Dog. Was completely surprised!!!
  9. Her expression with the balloon is sooooooooooo cute!!! She still looks very much like that cheeky little girl in your signature!! She's looking really lovely Allerzeit and I'm going to hazard a guess of 7 pups on board. 7, nicely sized and healthy pups for Nova!! Also, I'll guess there'll be a ratio of 5:2 of sexes but I'm not sure if 5 boys, 2 girls or vice versa.
  10. The dog/bitch couldn't be shown unless on main reg as far as I know. Sometimes a dog/bitch might grow into a lovely breed example so the breeder would like to enter into shows thus needing mains reg. Then perhaps breeding might come into it.
  11. I always thought the girls to be more cuddly but as Zeus has got older, he's far more mellow and sooky than Kirah. The only issue I have I that Kirah is totally all 'me, me , me. Oh I'm here, play with me' and Zeus steps into the background. It's hard for me to encourage him over for pats because he just stands back when Kirah's around. When we're at agility he's such a cuddly bubba because that's all about him and me time and Kirah is at home. His problem too is that he'd love to be a lap dog but he's too lanky with boney thin legs and joints that hurt!
  12. Do greyhounds usually tug? I would've thought tugging wouldn't really be in their instinct as they're all about chase, kill, destroy. Warrior is so sweet and gentle with them! The little grr, grr, grr noises are adorable too! ^_^
  13. She was such a beautiful girl Perrin; such a gentle, pretty face. Be at peace sweet Georgie. My condolences to you and your family Perrin.
  14. My two are chipped in NSW but I've also had them registered with CAR even though I'm in NSW as I travel a lot with the dogs. I'd rather them be searchable online as a just in case.
  15. Allerzeit I do keep thinking though that you need to update your signature images. I keep picturing poor little puppy Nova being mated and having lots of puppies! I'm like nooooooooo, how could you mate such a cute little angel face?!
  16. I don't know why the sheer stupid can still sneak up on me http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/west/ropes-crossings-new-dog-park-set-to-be-completed-by-september/story-fngr8i5s-1227037679976?nk=3839389140e372e28d5138bbcecfddfb Just in case the name of Natalie Rose's dog (Deefa) doesn't key you in to the inevitable stupidity within, hopefully you'll catch on by the third sentence: "I love the idea, I thought that'd be great," Mrs Rose said. "Especially for dogs who don't come back when they're called. It would be nice to have an enclosed area." My brain hurts. :/
  17. My responses to things like this are usually along the lines of "and this effects you how?" If the way I interact with my dogs is such an issue for some of the people in my life I tell them that perhaps it would be better if they avoid me in the future. Works like a charm!
  18. Depending on the circumstances, if the dog isn't dangerous, rather than euth-ing, the council should look at permanently rehoming him. Clearly his owners don't give a f*** about him otherwise she would've done something about him escaping before now. Her comment in the article is that she will "now keep him locked up". Why the need to threaten a euthanasia before you act? The fact he's been picked up before and you've paid multiple release fines wasn't a clue that he needs to be secure?
  19. That's all part of the Rottie's charm though isn't it? Their ability to be super sweet but super feral? Kind of sounds like I'm talking about wild sweet corn here  sweet and juicy ;)
  20. Should we all be worried that you're breeding this behaviour?! (just a joke btw. I know how much time you put into your lines!)
  21. I've always had a huge soft spot for Rotties and I get so annoyed on behalf of the breed when people harp on about them being aggressive. Sure they can, just like any breed, but I've only ever crossed paths with beautifully bred, even tempered boofheads! They are a beautiful breed that exude strength/power and playfulness/goofball-ish-ness. I could easily bring a Rottie home into my life but I'm content with terriers for now. Maybe when I get of reaching towards the ground when rewarding I'll look into one! :D In the mean time, keep those stunning photos coming please!!
  22. Have you taken a faecal sample to any vet for testing? I can't imagine any vet not asking for one if a client said their dog was pooping red jelly-like poo. I usually ask the receptionist/vet nurse if I need to bring any samples when I phone to make an appointment.
  23. I totally agree with MV's great post. It always baffles me when I hear breeders asking for a deposit before a litter is born, or worse, the bitch is yet to be mated. I'm not a breeder only a doggy owner, but when I was waiting for my youngest dog, the breeder I'd chosen had two possible upcoming litters. One girl only had one puppy, which went to a prospective show home, the other girl reabsorbed the pups. Breeding sometimes doesn't go to plan and there's no guarantee of pups so I'd never leave a deposit. Then there's always the chance that none of the puppies in the litter are compatible with you so why be asked to leave a deposit on something so unknown? It's good you're asking questions now and that you feel odd regarding the leaving of a deposit. I'd personally move on from these breeders as a just in case.
  24. I think I asked this very question not long ago because I REALLY want a third dog and it's been a battle of heart vs brain. I would love a Saluki but desperately want another Aussie Terrier, I yearn for another Aussie. Having said that, I've grown up in a one dog and one cat only household so have found two dogs quite a challenge. My two and I also have issues to work with and I'm just now really starting to enjoy agility with Zeus and some further basic training with Kirah who missed out on a lot growing up. At 3 years old, she's pretty much still a blank slate when it comes to training and because she's more full on and not as quick a learner as Zeus, I'm learning so much more about training and dog ownership. So my heart will continue to yearn for another Aussie (or 3!), I'll still want a Saluki, but my brain is switched on to enjoying the dogs I've got and to work from there! my bubbas!!
