  1. I knew there was something I'd forget! He is fed 1/4 cup Royal Canin Medium twice daily with a dollop of Jalna Low Fat Natural Yoghurt at dinner. I supplement with frozen turkey wings, tin of tuna with Virgin olive oil and raw egg (she'll included). Occasionally he has apples and carrots too. So his week might look like: Monday: breakfast of RC, a frozen turkey wing midday-ish, then RC + Yoghurt dinner Tuesday: breakfast RC, dinner RC + yoghurt + tuna Wednesday: Breakfast RC Dinner RC + yoghurt Thursday: Breakfast RC + egg Dinner RC + yoghurt Etc I do tend to mix it up depending on who's home to feed him. Some nights I don't finish until late so my youngest brother is comfortable feeding just the dry with yoghurt. Sounds like RHV is worth a try then for preventative measures. My vet nurse friend just mentioned the PAW osteo chews too so will have to look into them as I've never heard of them!!
  2. I'm just after some advice regarding joint care. Zeus is 5 1/2 now and we're both just getting into agility trialling -- have been to classes for just over a year now. Whilst I keep him on the lighter side and nice and muscly, he's still quite hard on his joints -- he often pelts high speed up and down our retaining wall (about 1.5-2 metres high) :/ I've been reading some older threads about the pros and cons of Glyde, Joint Guard and Rosehip Vital but wanted a little bit more info. I've used Glyde in the past with Poochie who did have full blown OA in her back legs but from reading it seems that Joint Guard is a better product for preventative measures. Where does the RHV fit in to this? I has a confused :/ He does get tuna in oil twice weekly -- I've read that mackerel is better as its a more oily fish but is harder to source. Should I just give him a fish oil supplement and at what dose? He's just under 14 kilos. Thanks for any help and info you guys can give me. I'd like to help Zeus out before he gets bad (if it happens at all).
  3. Dress rehearsal before Saturday's Santa photos. Poor Zeus missed out on his glamour shot because after the first practice run, I discovered that someone threw away their Santa hats from last year so I had to rush out and buy replacements. When I got home I found his Ho Ho Ho collar that I made broke so it's now being super-glued back together. Meeder Zeusling Kirah Liddle Calypso Kitty
  4. I kinda can understand the not part about not liking the look of a dog's penis because some dogs do have really hairy/ugly or too big ones. Zeus is just lucky I think he has quite a nice looking penis; small, neat and clean. Zeus is actually my first male dog and I really do enjoy how much calmer and mellow they seem -- even moreso since bringing Kirah home. She is a HUGE marker and even handstand pees to get her scent the highest. Whoever said girls don't cock their legs need to meet her; she always pees on three legs.
  5. I too agree from the hop/skip you've mentioned it sounds like patella luxation -- the hop/skip is just her trying to click the knee back into place. Don't wait until January as you need to know the severity of it. Have it checked out soon!
  6. Raising one litter at a time does not take all day unless we're talking about multiple litters which, in my opinion, is wrong. If a breeder can't be arsed keeping her website up to date, don't have one and more importantly don't lead people up the mulberry bush. Wow! Talk about rude! I'm not a breeder but I'm pretty darned sure that raising even one healthy litter can take all day -- especially if things like premature, singleton or caesarians occur. I'd personally prefer a breeder who takes the time out to look after her pups rather than have an awesome website; after all, not everyone can be amazing web designers. :/ Also, I'd be willing to bet that some of these breeders have quite possibly forgotten they've even got a website.
  7. It's a tough call because I'm feeling it depends what you're wanting the image to represent. Both are awesome shots: number 1 to me portrays the athleticism and hunting/chasing aspect whilst number 2 portrays the grace and elegance. So my question would be do you just want a "pretty" picture? If so number 2 wins hands down, but if you're after something more, I don't know, predatory(?), the number 1 is the way to go. All in all I can't vote because I love them both the same but for entirely different reasons. Sorry I'm no help here!
  8. You'd better muzzle those two large ferocious beasts; lookit at how dangerously feral they are! ;) That's an awesome teef shot Yonjuro!
  9. Best friends and happy as pigs in mud! You look like you need the shampoo I found in Petbarn the other day called I'm A Filthy Beast!
  10. I can't even begin to imagine just how hard the choice would've been -- I'm actually still struggling to notice much difference between any of the pups!!! Do you mean that Luna has a less impressive head type in that it (to me) it doesn't seem as broad as some of the others? She was still my pick of the litter from the gorgeous snuggly picture of her with Nova -- I melted at the slight of it! -- and the fact I'm biased towards the colour purple!! :) How do the white and orange girl compare to Luna Little? Do they have a more sound head type AND body or are they more in the head only? I'm just curious because I have no idea about any of this and find it fascinating. For what it's worth, orange was my second pick because I also love the colour! Welcome sweet Luna :) I can't wait to keep watching you grow into the big sweetie you're destined to be!
  11. Kirah the terrier loves bird hunting, the most recent being a peewee. The problem is, the birds don't realise she can boing so high straight up in the air so she just plucks them from mid-air or from branches they think are high up.
  12. I use a Kurgo Zip Line similar to a ute strap and have it running to the passenger handles. I bought mine from Petbarn: http://www.kurgostore.com/dog-leashes-and-collars/kurgo-auto-zip-line-leash-zip-line-combo/
  13. I think Grumpette and I are going to have a WWF Smackdown over the purple girl. Those photos of her with Nova are just too lovely to describe; she really does look like a snuggly, loving mumma's girl!!
  14. I did that too at first but realised I kept getting search results from YouTube of peoples' pet sloughis. Then I tried things like movie SBS sighthound, movie Middle East sighthound, movie poor man sighthound and similar things kept popping up. Don't really know why I decided yo try film instead -- perhaps it was to see if I could remove most of the hits from YouTube. I'm just glad my random brain fart worked this time for you!! :)
  15. So glad I found it for your Kirislin. I'm not sure how I found it but I've always liked detective work and vagueness and tend to enjoy tracing things. In the end all I typed into Google was "film sloughi" and found the link I posted above. It may have only taken me about 5 minutes if that of searching
  16. The one I've found through searching is called The Prince of Sloughis: http://sloughi.tripod.com/SFAA/psv.html I don't know if this is the one -- it's set in Morocco -- but it is also on YouTube if you google search. It's also commonly spelled "Slooghi" :/
  17. I'm confused over the fact that the dog "bumped" the handbrake. All cars I've been driving, a requirement to release the handbrake is to push the button and pull up before pushing it down; a bump shouldn't dislodge it. Further questioning, why wasn't the dog restrained in the back of the car? Yet another case of a stupid person blaming someone/something else for their own stupidity and being rewarded for it.
  18. I'm heading up on Saturday with a friend. We both got free tickets through our agility club. Would love to meet some DOLers!! :)
  19. I'm tossing up whether to go or not. I'm not working the Friday and Saturday so I may pop in and say hi! Are you taking Wisdom too Bec?
  20. I find it such a shame that BCs and Kelpies dominate the agility world -- there are so many amazing breeds. I prefer to stick with a breed I love and go from there, especially if you're not looking at getting into competitive agility. My club has quite a mix of breeds: BS Groenendaels, BCs, Kelpies, English Springer Spaniel, Staffords, Smooth Coat Fox Terrier, Norfolk Terrier, Norwich Terriers, Weimaraner, Shelties, Collie Rough, GSP (who is amazing!), Cocker Spaniels, GSD, Chihuahua, Toy Poodles, Aussie Sheps. Then there's my two an Aussie Terrier and a Beagle x JRT!
  21. I know that running on sand can be beneficial toe humans building muscle as it's an unstable surface but am wondering if it would be similar for dogs. Perhaps a walk along the beach might help tone him up too!
  22. Save your money on the slow feeding bowls and use a muffin tin if you must. Otherwise, try frozen chicken wings/necks as already suggested or if feeding dry, I just grab the dog's portion (be it 1/2 a cup or whatever) and throw it in the grass -- takes forever for them to sniff it out!!
  23. Stressmagnet I completely understand how you feel because I'm exactly the same. I have one very popular off-leash park that Zeus has issues with (he likes to run off and eat McDonalds as there's one across the road from this particular park) so I've been working on his recall (I've long since given up though and we don't go to this park any more). I don't believe in the "how else is the general public to know you're doing training if you don't have flashing neon lights" mentality -- it's not hard to recognise someone doing some training with their dog(s). Zeus and I could be in the middle of heel work, roll over, playing dead, spinning, begging <insert complete trick regime> and people would STILL let their dogs come barrelling in. This is potentially problematic because Zeus doesn't like being interrupted when he's in "training mode" and will more often than not give the rude dog a warning "bugger off, I'm learning things here" squeak (it's not even a bark sound he makes) and I'm worried that if the other dog takes his warning the wrong way that all hell will break loose. I just don't want to risk it. The regular park goers were generally quite good because we all know each other and they'd say a quick hello on their way past us but then there's always the exception. There was one instance I was travelling with my dogs and I made the huge mistake of stopping by the fenced in park at Penrith -- hoo boy NEVER AGAIN! I was off in a far corner with no one around and ALL the dogs came over to annoy Zeus, Kirah and myself and their owners wouldn't call the dogs away. I posted my frustration out on their Facebook page only to be met with cries of "if you want to do training don't do it at the dog park" or "the park is for the dogs to run around" blah blah blah. I tried explaining that just because it's an off lead park doesn't mean my dogs MUST/HAVE to interact with the others but again I was shot down. This is the mentality that ruin it for others. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to train around high distractions in dog parks just yet.
  24. Complete opposite here Clover, if they have hairy scruff faces and pricked-up ears (and sticky-up tail) I am a complete push-over  I'm the same as you Boronia and that's what endears me to my breed of choice the Aussie Terrier too. I love the mane, scruff, bib and prick ears; it makes for such a cute, cheeky and mischievous look!!
  25. Gosh you've been through a lot!! I'm sorry to hear Danny's still not right and it's even harder not having definitive answers. You've been in my thoughts all week and I'm hoping you get some good news soon. Give the gorgeous boy a snuggle and kiss from me!
