  1. Oh that's so sad. I'm so sorry. How awful
  2. Wow Tilly that's one amazing dog. I wish I could think of something better to help but I can only suggest something in the ground - but then he'd probably dig it up hey?
  3. I'll do jobs - just not taking a dog in the ring - way too scary I've just realised - der - when is it????
  4. Yes Edward hates the rain. He lays on the carpet staring at the ceiling expecting the rain to come through any minute. If I make him go out he'll only go and do his business if I stand on the verandah. As soon as I try and sneak back in he comes running.
  5. Thank you. He is gorgeous and I love him, unfortunately he had a horrible start in life at a puppy farm. He's a standard poodle x schnauzer. I got him when he was 11 months and that was five years ago and he's fine now. Lot's of things I read on here helped so much as well as a behaviourist and obedience school. :D
  6. So true Oakway. I use a combination Coprice (family dog not working dog) and Advance. Plus raw.
  7. I actually got the webbing and seat belt clip from a camping shop - pretty cheap. Then I sewed it on the sewing machine. A friend was going to make one for her dog but found one similar at a petshop. I haven't seen them though. Here's Edward - with a head :D
  8. That would be wonderful, thanks so much. It's so hard for a novice to work out what's best I hope I've got this photo 'thing' under control. Here's the harness. Oh that's not too bad - a bit blurred
  9. Edward has just passed his temperament and health tests for this. He's a bigger dog too - standard poodle size. The temperament testing was fine, just what everyone else said. They also wrote whether Edward is tolerant of other dogs and other species ie cats etc. They had to choose which category Edward fitted into: 1. sedate, quiet, placid, peaceful 2. quiet, interested, friendly, bright 3. bright, active, alert 4. boisterous, exuberant, bouncy I have the reports and the next step is a police check and a training session for me. Then they'll match us with people in the nursing homes. I'm really looking forward to getting started with this. I hope it works out for you too.
  10. Ouch hope your hip is okay. Edward did that to me too. I was caught off guard and got dragged a few metres - enough to take the skin off both knees and seriously dent my pride. The pride injury as it was broad daylight with witnesses
  11. My mum and dad's first dog when they got married (in the late fifties) was a scottie called Whiskey. They didn't even think of desexing him. They had no front fence and he was free to wander. They lived in a small village and everyone knew each other's dogs. Apparently Whiskey went for a walk on his own every morning and then got a lift home with the milkman. Yes different times I think. Actually come to think of it none of our dogs were desexed when I was a kid. Neither were the cats. We had one accidental pregnancy with our cocker spaniel (in the 70s) and all the pups found homes. Several lots of kittens I'm afraid but they all found homes too.
  12. A lovely story. I would have loved to see that
  13. Show her some photos of the gorgeous Lagottos. Pure bred with some great reputable breeders on DOL
  14. Edward is a big dog and I have him in a harness/seat belt. The harness I tried first went through the ordinary seat belt that plugged in as normal but Edward got tangled up in it all the time. I've found one that has a long piece of webbing from the back and plugs straight into the seat belt. He doesn't get tangled and it would stop him from flying around in an accident (God forbid). It also allows him to stretch out on the back seat and reach the window to look out. I'll try to get a photo of him in it.
  15. Edward is Edward because for as long as I can remember I've wanted a dog called Edward - lucky the name suits him. His full title is Edward St James - I've no idea why.
  16. I love all the photos guys. I wish Edward liked water. I got him at 11 months so I'm not sure if something happened before then. I've tried everything even sitting in the middle of the clam shell pool I bought him surrounded by his toys.Even with no water in it he won't come near it. He stands at the water's edge at the dam or river watching other dogs swimming with a - quick save those dogs - look on his face
  17. No flaming here either. Well done I say. I must say I have a smile to myself when the pizza man won't come in the front yard despite Edward being behind the fence safely in the back yard. It's the big dog - loud bark thing. I don't know if he would actively protect me if I needed it but I'd like to think so. You're right it's nice to feel safe when you live alone.
  18. Hi I hope you can help. I've done a search but I can't seem to find anything. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good kennels in Canberra. Thanks
  19. He's a lovely looking dog. Silly question - I've never seen that before - but what is trancing?
  20. At this moment I can hear Edward eating his dinner that he didn't finish earlier. Then he'll be back in the bedroom and on the bed, where he spends most of his time mmmmmm scratch that - he's just trotted out of the bedroom with a toy for me to play with........
  21. This is a great thread. I love the photos. Edward's favourites are soft toys. He doesn't chew them so he has heaps. His favourite one though is the first one I gave him when I got him five years ago - a lamb. Sorry I haven't figured out photos yet
  22. Yep me too. My neice and nephew, who are 12 and 10, gave me an apron for Christmas with 'Crazy Dog Lady' on it They thought it was a joke but I love it. Whenever they go out with me I get a lecture before we leave home about talking to strange dogs and their owners. Not that that stops me
  23. I use doggy daycare when I take Edward to Canberra to visit mum and dad. They have a small yard so he goes to DDC if we're all out for the day. I pay $24 from 9am to 3 - 5pm and that includes a walk. It's great and he comes home and sleeps for hours
