  1. I don't see your bird listed anywhere, I see only restrictions on cockatoos and galahs.
  2. As a local, I think the new laws are just fine and I LOVE the changes to the dog permits.
  3. Yes, my big Bullmastiff boy pees on his legs and even if the stream isn't directly on the back of his front leg, pee splashes up there anyway. I can't imagine how I could train him to pee differently but maybe you could make little waterproof boots for outside and take them off before he comes in?
  4. It's not really that they've "removed" the titles from the dog - the dog is still titled - it's just not printed on the ANKC pedigree document. Same as canine disc or ADAA agility titles aren't on the pedigree.
  5. Yup, and as I said, I answered using your definition.
  6. Using the definition of aggression given by the OP I answered yes to the HA question - I don't agree with the definition but answered the question as asked. Would I take out a dog I defined as HA - not unless on lead and muzzled (recall/training doesn't come into it).
  7. No pound has unlimited space, dogs (and cats and all the rest) have to be PTS to make room. It is sad when people have acted responsibly - identification is the key.
  8. It is 3 business days with no identification. Microchip your pet and keep the details up-to-date; will give the dog a lot longer in the pound and make it much more likely to come home again. If the owners made the pound aware, there's no way the dogs would have been put down (though you are charged a boarding fee per day, so it's pretty dumb to leave them there increasing your release fee - apart from the other reasons it's dumb). The dogs would have had no tags on their collars (or no collars) and no microchip.
  9. I feed BARF mince (bone, muscle meat, organ meat, fruit, additives etc.) because it's the easiest way for my dogs to get all the required nutrients. It also wouldn't be a balanced diet if I only fed the "meaty" bones that are available (that have little to no meat on them).
  10. None taken here fiveplusone, I only asked in case there was more info. I could have given you.
  11. I see nothing unethical about it. It makes sense to have litters on the ground at the same time; easier for taking time off work to look after them, get all the enquiries answering in one hit, all the home visits etc. in one go. Plus bitches of the same breed tend to come in season at the same time, if you want a litter from both, you'll end up with two close litters. Obviously a breeder with only 1 breeding bitch wouldn't do it but the more bitches you have, the more litters you are likely to have and the more likely you would be to start combining the timing. What specifically about it do you think could be "bad" so that it's not usually done?
  12. It's a communication tool for dogs, I don't stop it at home and have never owned a dog that tried it on strange dogs or humans. I think those bad mannered dogs who hump at the dog park etc. deserve the telling off they get from the assaulted dog but these owners are the types that will say your dog attacked theirs and want to report you - so I intervene before my dogs have to.
  13. Well done DogsQld, hooray for AmStaffs!
  14. Favourite ANKC breeds atm: Border Collie Bullmastiff French Bulldog Greyhound Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog Pug British Bulldog
  15. Whatever "they" say, the rule as written does not say it only applies to the Durack grounds (it's under "Procedure at Exhibitions") and so should be followed by EVERYONE and ANYONE who breaks it should be breached. What's the point of any rules otherwise.
  16. Qld introduced something similar in March, though not as strict. It seemed a bit OTT that they couldn't even be at the grounds but I guess that's how you make doubley sure no whelping occurs. I would have thought the associated health risks were to do with contagious diseases - a risk wherever multiple dogs congregate - but worse consequences for a pregnant bitch?
  17. If the worms are like flat rice then it's probably tape worms which can be spread by fleas. You'll need to get the fleas under control. ETA: Tapeworm Info The wormer you are using does kill tapeworm (not intestinal wormer's all do).
  18. I don't like kennels for my dogs and would use Don't Fret Pet services if I didn't have family available.
  19. I don't think it's been photoshopped but I do think the angle on which the photo was taken makes the dog seem even bigger than it is. That dog really isn't that much bigger than my Bullmastiff.
  20. I think the dog is a Boerboel - not an ANKC breed but do exist in Australia.
  21. Google lethal merle genes. Now THAT'S a health issue caused solely by colour The gene itself is not actually lethal. A double up of the merle gene causes blindess and deafness in some/most pups. The name came about because and double merle pups were usually put to sleep at birth. And merle is a colour gene is it not? A marking gene really (like Irish Spotting, Tricolour, Pied).
  22. For me, disliking a person is a different kettle of fish from thinking a person lacks ethics.
  23. From a puppy farmer? No - Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas! Anyone who's ethics I felt were too low I couldn't deal with - I couldn't trust anything they say and I think that's a very important part of working with other breeders.
  24. Yeah but the way it's written it could mean two names for the same thing (the way I took it), or two different things. So, my first answer is for puppy farmers. BYB - Where BYB means unregistered person and/or unregistered dog: no - Where BYB means registered but lacking ethics: no - Where BYB means registered but doesn't show: yes
