  2. Bullmastiff - 800g BARF mix, 450g of SuperCoat Large Breed dry food BCs - 300g of BARF mix, 150g of SuperCoat Energy or Working Dog dry food Plus supplements and weekend recreational bones. ETA: Dry food brand.
  3. Start with the vets who keep telling owners that their fats dogs are ok in weight! My mum's BC is not a big dog, yet she weighs 32kg, she has grabbable rolls of fat on her chest when she sits and she's already had an operation on her elbows from carrying too much weight. Yet the vet (out of not wanting to offend? because he makes more money from fat dogs?) continues to tell my mum that shes "a good weight" and so she dismisses my opinion. And yes, my dogs "must be starving they are so skinny". Argh! :D
  4. I was just thinking "Haven't I seen that before somewhere?" :D Of my 3 current dogs, one wouldn't leave the yard if the fence fell down, she's a brown nose. The other two would be off to see the world. All are trained the same but have different personalities. Boredom, reproduction desires and fear (thunderstorms etc) would be the general reasons dog would leave their yard IMO.
  5. Thanks Myszka, just found a site and even if it wasn't banned by the ANKC, Bullmastiff's can't do it. Oh well. :D
  6. Is Schutzhund training basically the same as protection/guard training, so the owner would end up with the same level of "liability" in their dog? :D
  7. Cheaper for what products? Product --- Priceless Pets --- iPet Frontline Plus Medium 6 pack --- $44 --- $47.50 Advantage 10-25kg 6 pack --- $38.85 --- $40.70 HeartGard Plus 12-22kg 6 pack --- $32.50 --- $26.20 Postage --- $5.50 --- $3.30 The $2.20 saving on postage is quickly eaten up by their product prices.
  8. Thanks, not good enough for a qualifying leg for our second level title, but we're getting there. There are a few photos of the day that can be seen here.
  9. a) Keep an ear out for what Herding Guy is up to, and b) check out our Getting Started page. c) Possibly also read up on The Rules. Come back with specific questions if you like.
  10. Unfortunately swirling winds made for a day of heartbreak. Thankfully the rain held out until we were done. Results
  11. Don't stress hannahb, there's only ever one dog and handler working at any one time. Safety first! Oh and yes, I got up too early and now have to waste time before I can leave for today's competition.
  12. There will be The Petographer in attendance to take photos of the flying fidos and quite possibly the Aussie Sport Dogs photgraphy team as well.
  13. A "team" is a handler and a dog, just like agility or obedience. Our club (again, just like an obedience club) has around 40 members and their dogs. Our first comp for this year had 14 novice and 6 open teams. Our biggest comp so far had 31 novice teams, 4 open and 3 pro. We also hold the ONLY southern hemisphere event as part of the UFO World Cup series. There are people overseas who would love to come and compete (as they do around the world each year) if there were the numbers to make it worthwhile (and if our quarantine laws were a little different) We are at the bottom of this page.....but I digress. In the US and Japan canine disc is HUGE. There are comps every weekend and people travel all over the country to attend them all. There's no reason canine frisbee can't be as big as flyball or any other doggy sport here. It's just taking some time since it's relatively new. I'm hoping to get video footage of this weekends competition and if you're interested I can probably do you a copy to show you what goes on at a competition. Apart from the 4 competitions run per year, there are also 6 training days and even some seminars now we are gettings members to the higher level (which involves a doggy dancing - canine disc mix of tricks and elements to music).
  14. Contact one of our gurus (Karen or Damian Noud) and discuss it with them. They singled-handedly brought the sport to Australia from the US. They run the Australian Canine Disc Association which would be who your club would be affiliated with if that's what you wanted to do. You'd probably need to get a couple of people to come up, get trained and accredited as judges/instructors. ACDA The more competition the better!
  15. We (BARK) are currently the only canine frisbee club in Australia, but we do have a competitor travelling up from Newcastle for this event.
  16. Nope sorry, I don't trust commercial training centres. But KitKat trains at and loves VIP and has previously trained at Scallywags and she won't mind if you PM her.
  17. A few options: Commercial: VIP Pet Foods Training School Scallywags Dog School CCCQ clubs: Redlands Dog Obedience Jimboomba Obedience Logan Obedience Southside Dog Obedience Edit to fix Scallywags link. Thanks SS
  18. Oh yeah, noise would be good too. Self-Rewarding Behaviour - How To Stop Counter Surfing from a Lab group Good luck
  19. You could try setting him up to have a few bad experiences and see if he can figure out for himself it's no fun. Leave only hot chilli sauce or similar hot or repungent tastes on the bench while still verbally reprimanding him when caught. Some dogs need a non-owner reprimand to learn self-control.
  20. I've always trained at CCCQ affiliated clubs, which generally are a membership per year fee plus small amount per week. I don't trust private training companies, I feel it's too likely they are most interested in the dollars not the dogs. Southside - $10 membership per year ($5 joining fee first year) and $4 per class Redlands - $15 membership per year ($5 joining fee first year) and $3 per class
  21. No, Greencross vet hospital on Kessells Road at Macgregor.
  22. JLS, not saying anything further except that I'm leaving Kessells Road surgery.
