Thank Leo. It kills me everytime I look at her that I can't breed her (bad hip score). Although, I'm not sure the insanity is a good streak to pass on either.

Sick Of Unprofessional Groomers

The point on looks was simply my opinion Rox but for those who clip because they think it will keep their dog cooler I think it's worth making it very clear that they are not actually being made cooler (unless the coat has already been clipped or broken down from age) and that this will cause the coat to become harder to manage. I really don't care if people want to do so (as long as it's not one of mine - bred or owned) but the reasons you give are not acceptable IMO. Flea spot ons work just fine with long coats, tick products work just fine as do daily thorough checks and daily brushing removes burrs. All too often those people who are clipping their double coated dogs should have gotten a different breed or a genetic short coat version of such IMO. -

Me too. Probably depends on the linage of the BC how badly their coat is affected but they are a double coated breed and should not be clipped IMO and IME. Obviously the shorter the coat naturally and the thinner the coat naturally the less badly the coat will appear and be to manage when growing back. Not only does it grow back badly but removing the naturual insulation properties by ruining the double coated function means they get hotter in summer and colder in winter. And IMO they look fugly as hell when clipped. Once the natural double coat begins to break down by age, then they should be clipped. -
Brother and SIL's dog. Crazy Rusty You can just hear him, "Ha ha Bottle! You are too slow to catch me!"

Ebay dog dryer Dog Dryers I use one of these (it's designed for emptying and refilling fish tanks). It's screws on to your indoor taps (if they have an end that comes off) so you can use it in the bath. Or use it on the outdoor tap. All the usual hose fittings will work with it. It's probably cheaper if you make one up from parts at Bunnings but easier to buy. -

Thanks K9, will pass it on. And yes, it seems to be working, they are very surprised by how fast and easily, in fact they've come around to my way of thinking on Rusty. They now believe he is actually very very smart instead of really dumb. :D -
If they have one or can easily get one, I'd get it. The likely hood is that no one will ever challenge you over it, but just in case, it would be better to have it available. And I wouldn't be too hard on the previous owner not giving you a certificate, I doubt 99% of people know that such a law exists. It may, it may not. The vet probably would have mentioned it, if they thought the scarring in the throat was causing an issue. But I would be extra careful with the dog when it comes to over-heainting and over-exterting herself. Hopefully somone who's lived long term with debarked dogs will come along and give you more info.
-
It may not be so over-the-top and if it were me, I'd keep it to myself as much as possible. The Qld law states that: Which may get the seller in trouble. But more importantly, without the certificate, you could be in trouble if someone was to make an issue of it. - SourceThrough rescue I probably had 3/35 dogs that were debarked. One having terrible breathing difficulties due to the operation.

Triangle Of Temptation
MolassesLass replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Further to my previous thread, my brother has begun the TOT with Rusty but would like to ask a question. Rusty has gotten the idea very quickly, he will sit and watch his owners non-stop from the moment they start the process. Sits quietly staring up, is doing it for quite a long time and they can even go inside and come out again. Problem is, when marked and released he continues to sit and stare - he doesn't go for the food. He knows the release command from obedience, so he shouldn't be confused. I'm wondering whether he's still trying to be boss by eating when he's ready, not when released. What, if anything, should my brother do if Rusty doesn't go for the food when released? -
Hmm, no, I don't think so. I don't feel I was wrong to post as myself, I simply feel that too often it was against what Troy wants and that it made life difficult for myself. Hence to make my life easier and to keep my membership here, I changed how I post and what I choose to post about. I'm not asking for anyone to forgive me for whatever they feel I need to be forgiven for, I'm simply asking to be treated as I act. If I am nasty, treat me nasty. When I am not, don't. It's more asking to "live and let live" rather than forgive - an act which to be successful requires some form of repentance from the potentially forgiven.
-
I said I was childish and petty for pointing out your error but no, I didn't ask to be forgiven for it. Given your past acts does that really seem like even a remote possibility of what I was saying to you? I guess 'F' is what fast fingers can type when aiming for the 'B'.

I never even heard of a confirmation judge, so can't imagine why my comments would have offended any. Conformation judges might since they do conformation shows (which is what I thought we were talking about)... Hardly made fun, merely pointed out. However, the distinction is unimportant, yes FL it was childish (and petty) of me to point out your grammatical/spelling mistake way back in January. I'm not going to apologise to you (I'm sure you remember what you did for that to be the case) but I have no issue in being wrong or admitting being wrong in the past. Can I please ask that those who continue to make issue with me over my past behaviour, please give me a break. Try to look at my posts NOW instead of months and years ago. I do not post the way I did and I feel very singled out and picked on when I am continually treated in a manner which does not match my behaviour. We all grow and change in this world as long as others give us the chance. Even if you don't want to give me a chance on the basis of humanity then at least give me a chance by respecting Troy's rules (in this case 4 & 5).
-
The only member's grammar and spelling errors I comment on, I do so because they asked for people to. Otherwise IMO it's really quite childish and petty. But, you have cleared up any confusion for those who read text in the same manner as you, so thank you.
-
Huh? ...that vein... Was it really that huge a grammatical mistake that you could not gain meaning from the sentence or was that just another excuse to take a dig at me? Boring!

No memory problems I know of Anne, although, perhaps it's the new identity. A search has not revealed anything but I do vaguely recall making the point once that you and Dougie posted in a very similiar manner. If I used relationships to make that point and I made you feel uncomfortable Anne, I do apologise. I am sure had you asked me not to make those types of jokes/whatever at the time (as I have to SM), I not only would have removed it, I would have apologised and certainly not done it again. So let me clearly state, I'm very sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable by posting an insinuation about your private life at some time in the past.

I beg your pardon?

I would appreciate it if I was not the subject of your humour samoyedman, especially along that vain. Thank you.
-
I didn't accuse anyone of being indoubt of their sexuality. The term was "lack of security in your sexuality" and it's quite often used to term those males who are uncomfortable in doing simple things because others may view them as gay. It DOES NOT draw SamoyedMan's sexuality into question what-so-ever. See how easily one person's words on the internet can be misinterpreted? I misinterpreted the humour apparently being conveyed by SamoyedMan and simply saw an issue of dog welfare that needed to be addressed. The lack of serious reply from SamoyedMan did not IMO appear to address my concerns (ie. "I do check them, I was just making light of the issue") or the welfare facts given to him (i.e. "Oh well I guess I better learn to get over it then"), hence I needed to push the issue again. As for straying from topic, the issue was important enough to be addressed now, not in 3 years time when SamoyedMan comes to post about his dog being on deaths door from a cancer that could have easily been felt. It's something I felt needed to be said and considered seriously based on what was posted, there was no malice intended (nor shown IMO). The topic was in hand with Shek. I hope I'm all the way through the horrible people thread if being concerned for animal welfare is what puts you there.

Flycow, I don't follow anyone, I post based on what I see. What I saw was a new dog owner thinking it's funny that they are unable to adequately care for their dog. I don't find that funny, I find it highly alarming. It is lying. First you intimated that you would not do these things. Now you say that you can (but do you?). That therefore makes the first posts lies. It may be over-reacting, but I will always speak-up for an animal rather than not offend a human. And if you want people not to have the possibility of over-reacting to your 'jokes' then perhaps you should be a little clearer (i.e. "I, ummm....don't like groping around down there...his gut is above his John Thomas. But I guess for his health I can do it."). Saves others the trouble of getting upset, you the trouble of being insulted and when you take advice seriously people will be more willing to give it.
-
That's not frivolity, it's lying - plain and simple. If you're going to lie to people then you will get replies based on your lies and you have no one to blame but yourself.
-
Why is this funny? Because of your lack of security in your sexuality, you cannot check your dog properly putting it at risk, that is NOT funny. You could miss or not treat: - paralysis ticks in the area - urinary tract infections - testicular cancer - cancer or other lumps in the abdomen, testicles, prostate area etc - wounds - hair matts (surely you brush the area?) - penis can engorge and be ubable to retract - etc etc
-
I hope you are intending to have your boy desexed then. Entires males must have their testicles checked weekly by their owners to make sure any cancer (or other nasty lumps) are found ASAP. You really need to be checking is tummy and genital area regularly either way, so I hope you can get over your own 'issues' for the sake of your dog.
-
Is your breeder close enough to do the taping for you? Or do they have a breeder they trust in your area that could do it?
-
And many threads on the advantages of desexing whether "early" or "traditional" and the problems caused by not desexing. :D
