I send emails on my pups birthdays; one puppy owner took great offence to this and on the 2nd birthday replied to my email telling me to "stop harassing them" or they'd take out a restraining order and that they "wanted a dog not a new friend". So I try and respect those who don't want contact but since I like contact, I also try and pick buyers who are like that.

Not if the new constitution is written in some way that protects them from being voted out. Something as simple as "all nominations for council must be put forth by an existing councillor and seconded by another" would do it.
-
I don't think we've been given a fair choice - keep the current councillours and let them write a new constitution to suit themselves or we don't split at all? I'll be abstaining on this vote.

Bummer My vet drained Duke's (a shot of local and then a scalpel) in the consult room before we took it out. Gave it a chance to heal after being cleared out but it didn't work this time.
-
Do they need to be removed, most of the time there's no need. Are the impeding movement or looking like they will burst?

I probably wouldn't be happy not being able to MR show quality pups but if the dog was really really what I wanted then I would do it and keep every show quality pup in my name. Incorporating the name I wouldn't mind depending on what the name is. Sometimes I think dog breeding involves too much people stuff. I expected it to be more co-operative and far less competitive.

My vet tells me that it's very common for dogs who get one, to get many over their lifetime. *Not to say that getting one means the dog will always get more, just that it is common for dogs to be "cysty" dogs. Old dogs especially get a lot of lumps, skin tags and other stuff (not that Daisy is old yet). My Bullmastiff just had a ping-pong ball-sized one taken out because it had gotten so big it was going to burst. He may have already started growing another too.

If I had chosen not to keep in contact then I would find a present very odd and probably quite intrusive. If I had kept in contact I would find it very cool. I'd send just an email to those who haven't kept in contact, you could ask in the email if they'd mind you send something if you really want to.

Storm Phobias- At What Point Do You Consider It A Problem?
MolassesLass replied to Cosmolo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Do you consider any stress during a storm to be a problem? No, only where the dog may be hurt or things destroyed. What do you think is a normal reaction to a storm? Pacing? Laying in a corner panting or going to a crate? Being unusually 'affectionate', ie seeking close contact when they would not normally? A normal reaction would be to ignore it. I wouldn't bother trying to modify any of the above behaviours even though I wouldn't class them as ideal. -
Your Experience With Registered Breeders
MolassesLass replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
OT - How does a dog use their hind leg dew claws to "slash and rip" things? I've honestly never seen a dog use their hind legs for defence or attack. -
I don't think I can handle more than 4 as pets - if I have a larger pack in the future it won't be the same kind of relationship. But like others, I think crazy comes when the dogs aren't adequately cared for.

If you want to start crusading for families then go check alcohol first. GO THE PINK DOGS!!! Thanks for the heads-up gspforme, I have passed the information around and everyone I know has been emailing the foundation letting them know we support their efforts whole-heartedly.

IF you go to the main forum screen, down the very bottom in the left hand corner is a selector box where you choose the forum "skin". There are options in there that have "uploads disabled" - maybe you have that skin selected?

Bad vets! I would be wary about using it again and would want advice from a vet, but not the one you're currently seeing. Is there any chance you can see a more experienced (in breeder matters) vet?

It's seemed to me that it's always been that way, so why split now? Give us the juicy goss DogsQld and I might vote. ;)
-
I think it's very interesting that suddenly the board wants to split but it seemed like they were dead against it when the members forced a ballot on it. I want to know what's gone on with the RNA!

I see the article about the promotion but nothing about the foundation doing fund raising this way - is it your opinion that it is a bad idea or did you forget to include the second story/link?

Experiences With Desexing An Older Male.
MolassesLass replied to jesomil's topic in General Dog Discussion
I desexed my Bullmastiff at 5.5 years of age because he was no longer being shown and needed a GA for a lumpectomy. That was just over a year ago and the only change I've noticed in him is he's a little more inclined to sleep all day. No negatives so far. -
Long Shot - Recommend Me A Vet In Toowoomba Qld
MolassesLass replied to gtjell's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ihave always loved bob donnely at west st vets. He's gone off to teach baby vets at uni now and a vet couple have taken over who so far are just as good. Bob took great care in picking them so i shouldn't be surprised. -
I don't know what the policy at my vets is but I suspect it may be payment up-front now. In the last year they have introduced a new form that owners have to fill out prior to surgery etc. It is all legal-speak and states the owner knows they will have to pay for the treatment and that they agree they will make payment. I asked about it and they've had so many non-payments they had to implement it. Scumbags ruining it for everyone as usual.

Molly - Moe, Moe-Hoe, Hoe-Bag, Moe-Bag, Molly-Dolly, Iron Paw Duke - Big Boy is his only nickname Logan - Bogan, Bogey, Logey-Bogey, Boges, Nurse Boges Jazz - Jasmine, Jazzmina, Midget Mutt They pretty much answer to any nice-toned voice. I love laying on the couch and saying "Who's the ugliest dog here?!" and see who jumps up for a cuddle first.

If I was advertising a stud and included the phrase "to approved bitches only" - then it's there to indicate that I might say no. It's almost not needed, because of course the stud owner is only going to use their boy on bitches they approve of - even BYB do this, they just approve of every bitch. So any of the things you listed may be required by a particular breeder before they will approve the use of their stud over that bitch. For me, I think I'd check: - ANKC main registered - appropriate health checks done with results I deem acceptable - good temperament - of the type I think is best - doesn't double up on the faults the stud has - pedigree doesn't include dogs from certain prefixes (due to concerns about accuracy of information) - owned by someone I can get along with on a fairly impersonal level (just for long term info on the resulting pups) - I'd prefer she was titled in some disciplines but wouldn't require it

Monthly Heartworm Prevention
MolassesLass replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Heartgard Plus does contain intestinal wormer ingredients, so it could be that.
