It's no more dangerous a sport than any other dogs compete in. That said, like any other sport it does require training to do it correctly. Dogs need to be taught to jump and land safely for your basic frisbee catching. I just couldn't recommend trying the freestyle tricks you see in the video without the guidance of an experienced instructor. Check out the Getting Started page from the first Australian canine disc club for information (in the tips section is a description of the safe jumping training exercise we recommend). And you could also try joining The Australian canine disc yahoo group where you can ask for training help, see here.

Looking For Clubs
MolassesLass replied to Miss BeRidgierent's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Obedience clubs generally accept puppies any time after they've had their final puppy vaccinations. I'm not up when pups can start agility. ANKC Obedience Clubs (some will do ANKC agility classes too) - Ipswich Dog Obedience Club - Jimboomba Dog Obedience Club - Logan All Breeds Obedience - Southside Dog Obedience Club - Obedience Dog Club of Brisbane ADAA (non ANKC agility) Agility Dog Club Of Queensland - Tivoli Brisbane Agility Dog Club - Carina -
Good freestyle round. :D Hope MM doesn't mind the minor hijack but you can see the same amazing disc action this Sunday at the Brisbane Canine Disc Championships being held at Kroll Gardens off-leash area in Clontarf. We don't have any BSD competitors as yet though.

Neutered dogs do still get happy discharge, usually not as much though. Keep an eye on him, if he seems uncomfortable or is licking constantly (all day rather than just when he gets excited) then it could be something to speak to the vets about. Though I'm sure the vet nurses will fill you in tonight. Oh and if there are no nuts there are no sperm (save for a grave period of a few days right after desexing).

White in colour is normal discharge; anything greenish or yellow, foul smelling etc. is a problem.

Does Cheese Ruin A Dogs Nose?
MolassesLass replied to corrie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Not exactly a scientific answer but the two tracking instructors I train with use cheese as treats (among other things), so...I guess not. -
Townsville Outdoor Agility Dog Sports (TOADS) are hosting a canine disc training clinic and one round practice competition on the evening of Friday 4th July. The event has been sanctioned by ACDA so participants will have the opportunity to earn a leg towards the canine disc titles. If anyone lives within driving distance of Townsville or has friends in Far North Queensland then please contact Rosemary Lovett for all the event details. Rosemary’s email address is [email protected]. Best wishes to everyone in Townsville for a fun night of fur and Frisbee flyin’ fun.

Bully Stick / G-whizzers - Brisbane?
MolassesLass replied to jaegertheweim's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Canine Country has these in store (they are a DOL advertiser up there ^). -
On this page you can view the ANKC/AFA Flyball Agreement which states what TigerJack posted. There is no CCCQ rule that prevents people from competing with their dogs in any non-CCCQ event. There is an ANKC regulation that prevents ANKC members from doing any bite work with their dogs which rules out IPO, but that's it. Members compete in Lure coursing, 3 sheep trialling and canine disc (all non-ANKC affiliated) all the time with their registered dogs.

I asked the same question a while ago (see here) and got some great respnsonse, hopefully they can help you too. I ended up getting EzyDog harnesses for my dogs.

Ummmmm Ruger Still Has A Testes
MolassesLass replied to rugerfly's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A lot of people believe the vet has left one behind when what they are seeing is swelling and/or the tied ends of the tubes that run to the testes. -
You and your dogs did really well Reddii, well done.

Sure is, I was trying to count out the 10 minutes or so wait and then work out how fast they should arrive. Straining my ears for any sound of them approaching. Probably Caboolture's trial at the end of June, see how we go. I'm with All Breeds Tracking Club. I hope so! Forgive my showing off but here we are.

On the weekend both my pups passed their tracking qualification tests. Having only trained on grass fields - a hilly, rocky, over-grown horse paddock was a shock to track in, so I chickened out and was tracklayer instead of handler. They both did really well and both judge and steward were impressed. On to real trials now!

Kara was put on stilboestrol and it stopped her incontinence. Her owners try every couple of months to cut back the dosage to make sure she's on the least amount possible and so she's on one tablet every 3 days. They call the vets for a repeat and go in and collect it with no consultation. I think their vet is happy to check her during the yearly exam and to trust her owners will spot any changes etc. that need investigating in between.

I wouldn't expect my male dogs to ignore bitches in season, though that would be the ideal. But I would expect them to be controllable. My experience here is limited, I've only shown one male dog, who's not been used at stud - though he does live with entire bitches and is well versed on when they're ripe. Duke definitely acts differently (more alert, more showy, wants to mark and tends to sniff the ground more) but he's controllable and that's fine by me. I can't really say how I've trained this, I guess it's just the respect for me or the general manners I always train into my dogs. I guess the extent of perfection that seems to be called for in the ring more and more, these small (to me ) things could cost you an award, but IMO that's something that needs to be changed about showing, not that the dogs must be changed. As mersonmalinois said somewhere, lets get back to clean, brushed dogs and nothing else in the ring.

Due to the incidence of KC in a dog that trained at the same grounds as a dog that attended last Sunday's training clinic, we are postponing this weekends training clinic. Please note, that the dog in question has not displayed any KC symptoms as yet, but please take all precautions with your dog's if they attended until such time as the incubation period for KC has passed. A new date will be given as soon as possible. Please pass this on to anyone you believe may have been coming this weekend. Happy Hounds Training Clinic What Date? ** POSTPONED ** What Time? She was only 2 points off the qualifying score for the second level title! Fantastic work Reddii, thanks for the compliments of my darlings, see you on Sunday.

On the weekend I tried the pups on their first track with me as the handler rather than the track layer. Jazz took the transition immediately! Started on a small, straight track but she was all over that so then jumped to a 160m track, with corner and she still just motored through. Logan not so good but still showed he could track someone else. I'm so proud of my pups and it is much more fun handling than hiding!

Holding the lead is illegal too, at least it was when I was pulled up for it and then callled the Qld Police. Laffi - As I said, there is no way to do it legally on public land. You either attach and risk police involvement or you let them run free and risk council involvement.

Orthopaedic Surgeon - Recommendations
MolassesLass replied to Vix's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I highly recommend Dr Richard Mitchell of North Coast Veterinary Specialists for orthopaedic matters. If you do a search here for his name you will find lots of others will too. Good luck with it all. -
You can see the swelling at the bottom. The black area is where the smooth bit of his belly button scar is. The black stuff is kinda oily and almost seems part of the skin.
