Ah, thanks for that info Crisovar.

Was the puppy not microchipped (that is law now in Qld I thought)? Hopefully the breeder does this from now on (assuming they didn't this time). Id gives a dog 7 days instead of 3 in a lot of councils too.

So sorry to hear of Rocco's passing, hugs to you all. The brightest flame burns the quickest.

Cats In The Reception Area Of The Vets
MolassesLass replied to ruthless's topic in General Dog Discussion
I dunno about your vets but mine doesn't have undercover car parks - I'd be breaking the law to leave my dog in my car in Qld heat while waiting (even if I didn't personally have a problem with it). I'm actually quite shocked at all the suggestions to leave the dog in the car! -
Ohh, lucky you. Congrats on 6 cute little pups, I'm sure they're all grand champs.

Cats In The Reception Area Of The Vets
MolassesLass replied to ruthless's topic in General Dog Discussion
All the vet surgeries I've been to in Qld expect dogs on lead and cats in cages. I've seen maybe 1 or 2 baby puppies being held instead of on-lead and I've seen some "leads" that have been pretty dodgy but otherwise dogs are always on-lead. -
I use one of those 2-wheeled trolleys you get from SuperCheap. An okky strap to keep the crate on (and usually a chair and my bag) and I can go anywhere.

Agree mirawee, same reason I hate people sitting near me in doctors waiting rooms. -

Sit at the far end and dream of a dog-only vet. As said though, a cat wandering freely is very different to cats in cages (most people at my vets cover the cage too, much less stressful for the cat and any dogs). -

Oh I just remembered, a previous vet bred and sold hand-raised cockatiels and had a cage of them in the waiting room. That was a bit of a pain but the staff accepted the occasional dog would jump on the cage so didn't make a big deal out of it. -

Thankfully I've never had a vet with an in-house cat, it's bad enough with just the cat patients. -
Mast Cell Tumour Without Chemo Treatment
MolassesLass replied to MolassesLass's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just to clarify, I'm not trying to decide whether to go the chemo or not, that decision has been made. Just mentioned it because it changes the statistics for recurrance - so those stories aren't useful for this situation. Thanks everyone who's responded so far. -
Is It Normal That Luuka Sleeps W Her Tongue Out?
MolassesLass replied to FranVT's topic in General Dog Discussion
My BM does, the end gets so dry and crusty that sometimes it feels like you could just snap it off. But I don't think it is an actual problem. -
Buying Two Pups At The Same Time
MolassesLass replied to sobraon park's topic in General Dog Discussion
As a breeder I wouldn't sell two pups to a pet owner nor will I sell one of my pups to someone who already has a young pup. Too much work required to raise human-orientated, well trained dogs in this type of situation and therefore too much risk for my pups. I've kept two from the same litter myself and I know how hard it is. I prefer to have 18 - 24 months between dogs. -
Mast Cell Tumour Without Chemo Treatment
MolassesLass replied to MolassesLass's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Clean margins, grade 2, tumour about the size of an orange, told without chemo it's a 25% chance it comes back. Just wondering what others have experienced personally. -
In the wild she'd could very well raise a litter on her first season, at under 12 months of age (and there's certainly many unregistered bitches who do in homes as well). Having puppies tends to make the bitch mature mentally and even physically. Being desexed and having no hormones tends to make dogs act puppyish their whole lives. I'd prefer a bitch to have her first litter between 18 - 24 months and so I wouldn't have a problem with a pup from a bitch this age.
-
I don't think she's showing guts at all. She's physically threatening - with a weapon - every dog owner who has the misfortune of encountering her in the neighbourhood. Nothing to admire.

Bullmastiff-cross 'bashed, Punched Then Left To Die'
MolassesLass replied to Kody's_Mum's topic in In The News
I want to know if the photo of boof in chains was as they found him or recreated for the scene. Neighbour Gordon Shelton said that after he saw the dog being "jumped on" he waited until the owner went to work, retrieved the animal and called the RSPCA. But then it says the next morning was when the RSPCA turned up. Maybe he had to put the dog back when the owner returned home after work. -
Maybe you could print out "Please stop trying to hit me." in as many languages as you could guess she might know on a sheet of paper and go for a walk without Daisy to try and give it to her. Perhaps she will know some English and try and explain she's not looking to hit you and then you can explain that hitting your dog will get her in trouble with the police also. What a shitty situation.

When you walk past someone on a footpath, there is so little space that it is very tempting for your dog to lean out to sniff (even the air) or look at the passer-by (and that is not lacking "effective control" in my books - or the councils). Someone like this could hit the dog for this benign and tiny movement; I think this is what is being talked about.

As little as they'd take to do it.

Just Came Home From The Dog Kennel Disappointed
MolassesLass replied to Pete.the.dog's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would because kennels are paid to care for your dog. Part of the care of a long-haired dog is to brush it regularly. Do make sure you tell people about your displeasure with this establishment to try and prevent anyone else being caught out. -
I see it the opposite way - far more intrusive to go snooping into someone's personal business on FB than checking the area of their yard via Google maps. Though I'm not silly enough to leave my FB public, so I'm safe from intrusive breeders.
