Looks like it's been another great year for DOLers in training and trial Update on my boys. It's been an up and down year for me, but my competition boys have done OK. Rogan - To remain sound enough to contiue competing regularly in agility in 2011. At 8.5 and a large dog, he's probably not going to be as competitive as he has been but I'd like to get the 10 multipliers on all his agility titles!! He has them (and more) in the Open classes, is nearly there in JDM but a long way off on ADM ADM may not happen in 2011, but I hope he's stays sound enough to eventually get there. Not, that I ever actually apply for the multiplier titles, but I might if he gets 10 in everything Well, up until the past week Rogan has remained sound and competed regularly at local trials, although we chose not to travel much this year. We didn't get the 10 multiplier in ADM, 5 more Qs to go! He's got them plus more in the other classes though. He did win our Training Club, Vizsla Club and Gundog Club's Agility Dog Of The Year (or equivilant) point score awards and our training club's Clear Round award for the 4th time in 5 years Not bad for a 9.5 year old dog! - I am considering having yet another go at Tracking. Nope, no time or motivation. - If Rally is offered around here, have a go at that! Next year Polo - To get him weaving consistently!! Not quite as consistent as I'd like! Enough to get us through Novice, but it's still a work in progress - To gain his SD, SPD, GD & AD?? titles! Yep, all of those :D Plus a few 'X' passes. - To compete in a Field Trial Scary stuff!!! Yes!!! Our biggest achievement I thoroughly enjoyed training for Field Trials and Polo exceeded all my expectations winning his first ever trial (although only a NQ trial) and gained his Novice Field Dog title - To compete in an All Age stake at a retrieving trial More scary stuff!! Well, Polo didn't compete in an AA stake, but I did! I ran his sire in a trial, and got through. Too busy training for field to train for AA. - To train all UD exercises and maybe enter a trial or two. Not quite. Training has started, but a long way to go. - To train for the Open Utility Gundog Ability Test and perhaps compete if the Open class is offered next year. No test offered and no formal training for this event, but with his field exposure I am fairly confident he is nearly there anyway.

You can't vote in the poll unless you answer all queations. You need an option on the first question of 'don't own a hydrobath' and an option on the third question of 'already own a hydrobath'.

Awesome stuff TSD!! It's amazing the amount of times at trials that someone who has done particularly well also wins the raffle :D

Great stuff wuffles and Ava!

Flynn did not show muscle wastage in the front end or increase muscle in the rear. I could not tell you if he was'trying to land softly' pre diagnosis, it was 10 years ago now and I certainly didn't notice at that time, but may have missed it.
-
My first Vizsla had this diagnosed at about 3.5 years old. I was told he'd likely never compete in agility again and that walks on a halti was all the exercise he'd be able to do. He had several months of rest with regular chiro and physio and went on to compete in agility and obedience until he was 10 years old when another condition forced retirement.

Just thought I'd update that my diary arrived today. I ended up going with the UK Photobox one as it had the page layout and spiral bounding I was after. I absolutely love it!!! It has a picture each week plus front, back and inside cover pic. Quality is great and it cost me $34 after conversion, including postage, for a delux diary without a leather cover. Did I say I love it!!!!?

Yes, I got the same email, I was just hoping it would be fixed. In the meantime I'm adding more and more to my order, maybe that's the ploy ;)
-
Is anyone else waiting until they have the checkout fixed?? I got a reply to my email two days ago saying the webmaster was trying to resolve the problem, but it's still trying to charge for shipping. I've always had good dealings with Clean Run so I have no reason to doubt that I won't be charged shipping, but I'm stil a little hesitant!
-
No, it wasn't taken yesterday, but my boys were there on Friday afternoon
-
I take my boys to Grevilea Park to swim in the lake. Drive down Menindee Drive past the hospice.

Did they say they are going to fix up the check out so that shipping isn't charged, or do we all have to do this?? I'm at $274 already but that does include some trial prizes No mention of fixing it FHRP. Though if enough of us email them maybe they might realize they have a problem. Can only hope I hope they do fix it! It's currently quoting me $100+ shipping and every other time I've bought their free shipping items it's had nothing for shipping at check out. I think I'll send them an email too

You have, but only in the Training forum ;) Just thought I'd let you know that when viewing with IE 7 version 7.0.5730.13 (that's what the About tells me ;)) the drop down lists fall behind the pictures on the front page. So when I hover over the Competitor Info, I can't read the drop down. Not a big issue as I can get to the lists on another pages that doesn't have a picture under it, and it views fine in Firefox. Hoping to be there, but not sure yet. One dog is getting a bit old and the other is getting even more feral!!

I used for a while the motor bike ramp with some outdoor carpet cable tied to it. I found though with my 20kg dog that as he got older the ramp was too narrow for him to safely toddle up and down. I then bought a telescoping dog ramp like the one pictured below which are available in my local Pet Stock store. They aren't cheap, but as I have several big dogs and a big jump into my car, they will all probably need it as they get older. They are fairly light weight and not too bulky for what they are.

They kind of have done that. Under the new rules the height class is added to the title, so you can differentiate between dogs that got the title under the old rules and under the new. So, if my boy had have got his title under the new rules he'd be AgCh 600 not just AgCh, regardless if the points were gained at all height or seperate height trials. There are a couple of things I don't like about the new AgCh title, but I did think the old system needed to be changed. The new system still requires a lot from a team, it's not easy to qualify that consistently at Masters level! I have already had said to me that under the new rules some people don't consider anything other than an AgCh 500 to be much of a title which I think is very sad
-
Intersting that you had more 200 & 600 dogs than the 300's! After 500 height dogs, 300 would be our biggest class usually. Our last trial had in JDM: 0 x 200 7 x 300 5 x 400 (1 bc) 25 x 500 (12 bc's) 2 x 600 The above seems pretty representative of our local trials this year, maybe a bit above average on the 400 dogs? 500 height dogs definitely make up the majority of our entries, with a large percent being bc's. We only have a couple of 200 height dogs locally and we used to have a good 600 contingent but I find myself a bit lonely in 600 these days!! Oh, and not a single sheltie in the above numbers!

I have trained three dogs to weave using guides (poles in line with a physical barrier). Two of the dogs one stepped and the other rarely gets any good rhythm in the weave poles but when he does get good speed he bounces. I have seen dogs trained in each method step, bounce or do neither.

Thanks ruthless! Will check them out :D

My dogs get lots of exercise both around the neighbourhood and through the bush. They do lots of dog sports. They still need to have their nails regularly cut or dremelled. No, I'm not intersted in paying someone to do it, my dogs are trained from early on to tolerate their nails being cut.

The poll looks like it needs some tweaking, the 4th option is actually a second question?? and if you have had a differing opinion you can only select one option anyway. I will not hesitate for a 2nd or more opinion if I am not sure something is necessary, or not comfortable with the diagnosis, even if it doesn't involve invasive surgery. I recently went through a very tough time making a surgical decision on one of my dogs and consulted with three vets from two practices and a specialist surgeon in another city before I was comfortable with my decision. I do trust my vets and have chosen them because I generally agree with their approach to treatment, but they recognise that there are often more than one way to approach a situation and on the big stuff encourage me to talk to anyone I need to to make a decision.

A lot. We don't do any forest or bush walks in Summer We are now pounding the pavement, basically walking through our suburb from one mown oval to the next where the dogs can have a good run off lead. My young dogs sire was bitten by a brown snake the other week and even though he isn't local to us, it immediately put a halt to us walking near the creek and less maintained oval in my suburb, an area we all enjoy I hate snakes.

Thanks Pockets and DA, I think I'll check out the Reject Shop this weekend, hope they have some left! I find the blue one I have really effective, but you can never have too many can you? Especially if they're cheap :D Now I just need an 'eat faster' bowl for Rogan....

wantsapuppy, if you'd like to see Labs doing what they were bred for, maybe try and get along to a Retrieving trial! There is only one weekend of trials left in Vic this year, the sport is more a Winter sport. The GSP Club and Brittany Club are holding trials over the November 5 & 6 weekend in the Nagambie area. Only the two lower stakes are being held, but there will still be lots of nice working Labs there Brittany Club trial schedule
