  1. dogmad: it was extremely heartbreaking losing her at not quite 7 years old, she deserved a long, happy, healthy life. I do think she gave all the love she could in the 5 years she lived with us (she came to us when she was almost 2 years old). Our 6 month old Lappie puppy is coping relatively well. shes been pining a little but not too bad. shes mostly just been searching for her other than that shes been pretty good which is a huge relief.
  2. Thank you for the replies, messages and support. Charlotte was indeed a beautiful girl. She had an auto-immune disease she had been fighting for 13 months. with medication she was under control and able to lead a normal life. Until recently she had been going really good for a while.. then she suddenly had a downfall in health. She become extremely underweight, and all efforts and tests etc etc just didnt help her, we noticed about 10 days ago she was not only losing condition, but she had become lethargic, very unsettled at times and tender in the lower back. We decided to increase her medication level up to keep her a little more comfortable. Then one morning she was breathing very strangely, very fast and unsettled. We rushed her over to her vet, he did some bloods on her and they came back alright though her white cells were down quite a bit. Chest xrays showed she had a infection on her lungs. We were sent home to keep her comfortable and happy. She continued to worsen and become incontinent and couldnt get up off the floor without assistance. so we then made the decision based on seeing her giving up that it was time to say goodbye to her. I feel we made the decision at the right time. She was a beautiful girl and i will always remember the beautiful girl she was not only in looks, but her temperament i could not fault. She was always happy. If you gave her a oval to run off lead in or water she would choose the water (even better if there were ducks in there!) She was a complete waterbaby she would even try and swim in puddles you just couldnt get her out of the water. she simply loved swimming. Love you Charlotte, always in my heart.
  3. This morning i gave my beautiful Golden Retriever her wings. Can't say everything i would like to so for now I will just post a couple photos. Run Free Charlotte, we will always love you. Now you are pain free and not suffering anymore from the horrible disease. R.I.P Charlotte
  4. Run free Charlotte! I'll miss you always. When I am stronger i will post up what I really want to say in rainbow bridge section. rest in peace Charlotte
  5. You were lucky to meet her before her disease caused problems for her. She has not been that same beautiful energetic happy golden in quite a while and I seen the face of her giving up yesterday and know I had to make the decision for her. She's spending the day with us today being extra spoilt and having thigs I wouldn't normally let her have and she will be given her wings tomorrow morning. My beautiful girl will be at peace with my other goldens running, swimming at chasing ducks
  6. Thank you, it is a comfort knowing there are people for support.
  7. Thank you everyone, it is a very hard time. we are spending the day with her tomorrow spoiling her etc and Saturday morning the vet will give Charlotte her wings. Shes a special girl to us all and to those who met her, seen the wonderful happy go lucky dog she is.
  8. Thanks for the recommendations. We are giving Charlotte her wings saturday morning, our vet has recommended that one you suggested Pretty Miss Emma. they seem to be very good and our vet said they have had alot of clients use them.
  9. Thank you for the replies. I think we are close to giving Charlotte her wings. Such a sweet gentle soul. I think she could go on quite a bit longer, however i feel she is ready now. I am trying to find out the best people to go with for her cremation.

  11. Hi all I am making the difficult decision to have my Golden Retriever PTS any day now and I need a recommendation for someone reputal who is able to collect her once she has been PTS and have her cremated. My previous 2 dogs i used one company but they have now closed business so i am after a recommendation for someone who is able to come to the northern suburbs area of melbourne. Thanks in advance.
  12. When do you feel the right "time" is for your dog? Do you base it by more bad than good days? Dog is off food? I ask this as we are taking Charlotte to her vet in an hour to talk about her quality. The disease is very debilitating for her now and she is having more days of being unwell and lethargic than days where she's happy. She will still eat and drink fine, her weight is not coming up despite all efforts to try abd help her and i think her time is here Btw she has Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and has been on prednisolone for 13 months.
  13. Exactly! I don't know why people are recommending a spitz breed, if the OP doesn't want to deal with a dog that sheds (alot) each day then they certainly wouldn't want to deal with a seasonal blowing of the coat! I agree, if they want a non shedding or low shedding dog, a Lappie isnt suitable. My vote is for poodles, bichon and schnauzer. I personally have an almost 6 month old Finnish Lapphund and a almost 7yr Golden retriever. I wouldnt be recommending a lappie as suitable for someone after minimal dog hair around although they only shed once of twice a year i get the idea from the OP that her sister wants no dog hair around. i certainly wouldnt say they shed by the bucketload though! I personally think lappies are awesome of course. mine has more energy than my golden but my golden is a couch potato so cant compare there!
