  1. I store mine in those blue barrels containers big enough for 40kg but i only buy a 15kg bag at a time. That is for one dog currently, and she doesnt have any problems still eats it all. This lasts her probably about a month and half maybe. I also have them for rabbit food, woodshavings and hay. Except those ones are brown. I do find when the rabbit food gets down to the bottom the rabbits dont like to eat it much. Those ones are stored in garage and the dog food is stored inside.
  2. I agree, maybe your small dogs may be ok with necks. Charlotte had around a year away from all raw as i thought she would react to it. She has been ok the last few nights, no runs or anything so i think she'll be ok. I am a bit jubious about wings, last year when i gave them Charlotte only did one chomp and swallowed, so I dont think i will be getting wings ever. I gave a tiny bit of chicken mince tonight and no reaction, she usually reacts pretty quickly and its nearly 4 hours since she's had it. I'll slowly introduce it over a period of time to ensure she gets used to it slowly to not cause any stomach upsets.
  3. Thanks for help. I have decided to change Charlotte to Bonnie Working dog. It has kangaroo in it and seems to look pretty good for her. Charlotte is fine on any dry food, it is raw food which i have my concerns. She has tolerated small amounts so far. I will be slowly increasing the amount so that it is slowly introduced to her rather than being half raw half dry food just yet.
  4. found a pic of what Lucy's welt like bumps looked like. We dont have a garden other than plain grass and dirt so my money was on the spider maybe.
  5. My Golden Retriever I used to have now passed on, but she came out in exactly the same thing got her out of her bed and found a huge black spider. I kept applying creams and stuff for it, but because she loved licking everything in sight, it didnt really have any chance of healing. Until I put an elizabethan on and it had a chance to heal.
  6. Thanks heaps for that FTPO. I'll start introducing some lamb shanks/flaps and hopefully it will help her a little. I guess i could have given too much chicken at once causing the runs and probably freaked out since it was all over the dog beds and kitchen floor for three days and boy did it stink! There was slimely fat in it. Does anyone know what the kindest meat on a dogs stomach is? I really hope i dont witness another episode of the runs when i try it. Got a shank in the fridge as we're having roast lamb tonight and i cut it off for her. Crossing fingers she goes ok... nearly forgot to add FTPO, her coat is usually good on just about anything, her poos arent that hard pretty soft. Only reason i know is every night on our walk she always does one on someone's front lawn and i pick it up and they are squishy. Will raw help that? Sorry for the graphic explanation!
  7. The chicken did too as they werent given at the same time, the chicken is what was given first. then about a month later i got the marrowbone for her birthday last year. The chicken reacted immediately for 3 days straight.
  8. She's not too underweight, but i would like to see her at about 28 or 29kg at least seeing as she does burn off alot. Some trainers at obedience where i go have also told me she could do with more muscle. She's not a small goldie, so i might just mix two foods together. The place where i get her current food deliver it for us but the problem with that is they are always ringing me up asking when i want more. I buy it by the big bag so it lasts ages for one dog. It gets annoying when they ring every week or so asking. Charlotte has been on a power formula in the past, and it didnt make her any more energetic I changed purely because i couldnt afford it as well as my other dog's expensive food who was also on medications. I will look up more foods and see what is going to be best for her. This is the typical analysis of Charlotte's current food. Protein 20.0% Digestable Protein 19.0% Fat 11.0% Ash 5.0% Fibre 6.0% Moisture 10.0% Calcium 2.0% Sodium 0.49% Iron 69.9 I.U./kg Vitamin A 5,545 I.U./kg Vitamin D 445 I.U./kg Vitamin E 75 I.U./kg Ingredients i took off another thread here mixed meats including lamb and kangaroo, whole grain rice, vegetables, natural fats and oils, yeast, garlic, kelp, vitamins A, D3, E, K, B1, B2, B6, B12, niacin, pantothermic acid, folacin, biotin and natural organic acids, plus minerals calcium, phosphorus, sodium, copper, zinc, iron, manganese and iodine. Also contains Yuccs shidigera extract.
  9. thanks for suggestions. When i tried RAW it was from the day i got her, August last year. Apparently she had been fed on chicken mince and pedigree pal which i absolutely hate. Anyway i have tried chicken mince, carcasses, wings, also tried those big beef marrowbones, lamb flaps. The chicken i bought was human grade from La Ionica. I tried her on just plain dry food and she never had the runs again. So is it possible some dogs just dont do well on raw and bones? I have tried giving her different things now and then not all at the same time of course and the effect it has had has been very violent runs for 3 days in a row. When she has been sick i have boiled chicken strips and rice and given to her and she doesnt have any ill effects with it. I'll look into the Bonnie Working dog and also the Royal Canin large breed adult.
  10. Hi, I am wondering what people's ideas are of what is the best food brand. My 3yr Golden Retriever is currently on Vivace but she doesn't seem to have enough fat on her for my liking. Going BARF is completely out of the question as she cant tolerate raw meat or bones (has runs for 3 days straight). She is highly energetic so tends to burn it off. The food is excellent for her coat etc but i just am concerned that she is needing more fat since she is burning it off easily. What foods would you guys suggest to try her with? She has been on Eagle Pack Power which she did very well with maintaining the weight but when there was a price increase, i found at the time i had 2 dogs one on prescription diet which was costing a fortune, and Charlotte staying on EP would be well and truly out of the budget so switched to Vivace. Any ideas appreciated. I will welcome any suggestions for a premium brand food that has good reviews. I guess what i would be after is something that is good for dogs who are energetic and is also good for the coat, teeth etc. Thanks in advance.
  11. jinx: So sorry to hear about Boof. R.I.P I know how hard it can be. Lucy has been gone over a month now, and i am still having problems trying to accept she's gone. It was hard saying goodbye to her especially with her only being just under 6yrs old when we said goodbye. I break down quite often still, but i know eventually the pain will lessen and i will be ready to accept another dog into our lives. Lucy was gone before we knew it, we didnt want to have to let her go but was the only option. I know she is in a better place but it certainly doesnt make it any easier not having her around. Always missing you Lucy love you family and best buddy Charlotte. nell.m: that is great to hear how well Jasper is doing and congratulations on him celebrating his 12th birthday!
  12. I sent a PM but once again Whitty i am terribly sorry to hear of Bomber's passing. Bomber will always be in your heart and I am sure he will be waiting at the bridge for you and Toby. How is Toby coping without his mate? Bomber was a handsome old fella. He lived a fullfilling enjoyable life. You did the right thing by your boy and may he rest in peace and find Cloudy and Lucy to play with in Rainbow Bridge. Hugs to you and Toby Whitty. R.I.P Bomber
  13. For those who have dogs with Lymphoma I just want to pass on my crossed fingers yours get through it. My Golden Retriever lost her battle to Lymphoma last thursday. She had an ultrasound which showed lymph nodes were enlarged (neck ones at first were not enlarged). We went for the option of taking tissue biopsies through exploratory surgery. We got her results back telling us she had an extremely aggressive form and that it had spread to other organs. That was the worst news we could get. Chemotherapy was not recommended for her at all, and I wouldnt have wanted to put her through it due to the fact she was so weak and underweight and the fact she had so many other health problems. When she came home from her surgery, a couple days later i noticed the neck lymph nodes were enlarged and i could feel lumps in them which grew three times the size in 2 days. We spent an extra couple days and Thursday we said goodbye to her. Her little 16.8kg body was fastly shutting down and I know we made the right decision for her. I am so glad to have given her the life she deserved she was just under 6 yrs old when she left us. R.I.P Lucy
  14. I have 12 storage bins which were originally used for olives. Only 1 is for my dog the rest are for storing rabbit food, hay and woodshavings in. I got mine from a local sunday market. They are really good plastic and airtight. Have screwtop lids. I am a short person so dont have those huge ones. The dog food one holds 20kg at a time. Maybe try a market or something?? I know what you mean about your dog having more stuff than you, My 3yr old Golden Retriever has toys everywhere, t-shirts, collars, leads etc.
  15. Thankyou so much Harminee. I love it.
  16. Can someone please make me a signature when you arent busy. Charlotte Lucy Always in my heart 19 Dec 2002 - 6 Nov 2008
  17. IG I am so terribly sorry for your loss. Never blame yourself, who would think something like that would happen. I would be absolutely devastated if that happened. I am glad his breeder has been so supportive to you. Rest In Peace Ripley
  18. Thank you very much Charles. I will be taking her into the vet as there are several other health issues still happening. I am struggling to keep any weight on her at present. She had pancreatitis last month. She is rapidly continuing to lose more and more weight, I am intending on weighing her tomorrow when i take her in. Week before last she had lost 2.5kg in 16 days and was 18.3kg. She has definately lost more. A bit of history on her is she has battled Infections of Eyes, Ears and Skin Infections, Hip Dysplasia, Chronic Arthritis, has Diabetes Insipidus and has an EPI. Most of her life she has had very bad Vomiting and Diarrhea episodes 2-3 times a week at least. Her vet always used to say she was a fine normal dog. She got Arthritis and Hip Dysplasia aged 10 months old, and Diabetes Insipidus and the EPI she got 2 yrs ago. Vomiting and Diarrhea has stopped since she was put onto i/d. I am just very concerned about her as to why she has been such an ill dog her entire life and if there is something i can do to help her. She has had a couple episodes where she's sleeping and has wet her bed without being aware of it. This new vet says it is nothing to be alarmed about. I am at my witts end what to do for her. I appreciate your suggestion and i will be requesting that she has a complete rectal exam and a biopsy.
  19. Might be a dumb question here but please forgive me. My Golden Retriever had her Anal Glands removed nearly 2 yrs ago, which she had faecal incontinence for 5 days after surgery. I am wondering as earlier today i noticed a lump poking out her bumhole it is about the size of a 1$ coin and is swollen, hard and when i wiped it, there was a slight blood and yellow mucus discharge. There is a extremely strong smell which is distinctively the exact same smell as Anal Gland fluid. Is there any reason why i would be smelling this? Also the lump seems to poke out and then an hour or two later it is sucked back in. She has toileted today which i looked at it very closely and it has blood in it. Any ideas? Sorry if i sound dumb or anything ETA: She is 6yrs old in december and has been very ill recently.
  20. My 6yr old gets fed 3 small meals a day. My 3 yr old gets 2 meals, morning and night. Used to have just one, but I think it is better to have more than 1 meal a day for her also.
  21. I got a Rogz Martingale on Sunday but that was from my Obedience school. Hope you find one. It was $15
  22. Excuse my ignorance but what is a titer test? Sorry if that's a dumb question, never heard of it before.
  23. Thanks for the help everyone. I decided to just feed her what she normally gets, and wait for the results which i am hoping come back very soon. She is my first dog and it hurts to see her go down so rapidly like this. Havent had x-rays done yet. We started with full bloods and see what results come out of that then discuss with vet what to do next.
  24. Hi everyone. My Golden retriever is 6 yrs old in December and in the last 10 days has lost 5kg. She has an EPI and at the same time was also diagnosed Diabetic. Today going to a different vet now that i work in a vet hospital, i took her in there instead. She is at a whopping low 18.4kg and I am wanting to know if anyone has any thoughts of what I can give her that might help. She has had Full bloods taken today and is dropping the weight extremely rapidly, and nothing seems to be putting it on for her. The vet could also feel a mass in her Bowel which the vet is a little concerned about. She is going back in first thing in the morning to also have a urine sample done. The blood results should be back tomorrow, however Vet said some could take a little longer to come back. Her apetite is normal so getting food into her is no issue. Can anyone suggest something for her that might help her? ETA: the original vet that diagnosed her as being Diabetic wrongly diagnosed. The type that he said she has apparently doesnt exist in dogs when i was talking to one of the vets. We were told she had a rare form which means she didnt require insulin.
  25. I feed a food that isn't included on the Poll called Vivace and before that I fed one dog Nutrience and the other Eagle Pack. Both Golden Retrievers
