Animal Mad: My back is playing up at the minute so dont think i could do her myself. I have some 6 week old Cashies here ready in 2 weeks and oh my are they stunning... one problem, no-one to take me to you to do Charlotte. I only have the one Golden and shes a really easy dog to groom, she LOVES every aspect of being groomed.

I am wanting to change to a new dog groomer, current one each time I pick up my dog comes home with Fleas which i know were NOT there before dropping her off. Does anyone know any good groomers in the Mill Park/Epping area? I have a Golden Retriever (has no coat to be stripped out). All I get done is a bath and a tidy. My dog is happy in a crate so that isnt a issue if groomer uses crates Any recommendations?? Thanks in advance. ETA: Looking for salon not Mobile.

Funny you say that KC, i rarely see many breeds than Kelpies and Border Collies doing it. I'm going down to give agility a go this sunday. I have a Golden Retriever. A BC owner conned me into it Charlotte does Obedience but i think she would really love agility. I just need to get her perfected in her drop then i am trialling her in CCD when she gets her CCD i'll be happy and she is still young 4yrs just about. For now i'd love her to do agility for fun

Yes, Warringal are losing their grounds. University isnt renewing the lease and piece by piece are taking back land. They are saying within 2 yrs but yeah i dont know. It'll be pretty hard to find a ground that big again.

Personally i rather not say on here. If you PM me, i could do with a doggy distraction too. My GR is pretty advanced, she is nearly at Obedience trialling stage but she can be a bit nervy on her drops. She hates doing them and usually will not do them until she gets a second command.

I am the same and have left Warringal and hoping to find somewhere really good soon I also live in Mill Park.

Hi, My Golden Retriever went swimming in a river/lake where she has never been to before about a month ago and came down only a few days later with severe flaking skin. She has rarely had any flakes before, so I am putting it down to the water quality where she went swimming as she does go swimming on a regular basis and never reacted like this before but i havent taken her since she has had the flaking skin as i have tried to not get her skin wet to see if there is a change, but it really hasnt changed all that much. She is fed on Advance Sensitive skin and Stomach as she has a sensitive stomach and has been fed this since February this year. She also gets Fish oil capsules everyday. I am taking her to the groomers for a hydrobath as she is really smelly and living inside the house, it is getting a bit smelly. I'm after shampoo suggestions thats formulated for flaking skin which i can get and tell them to use it on her. It isnt as severe as when she first got it, but it is still all over her belly, inside of back legs, on elbows and also all through her coat. She has always had an excellent coat and very healthy skin and still does, just the flaking skin. What would you guys recommend?? Also up for any supplement suggestions along with Fish oil capsules. She cant tolerate raw meat or bones so a change of diet isnt in order.

Good Diet For Anal Gland Problem?

That's a good suggestion. I tried that with Lucy but it didnt make alot of difference, though i have heard alot of people have had success like you have. -
Good Diet For Anal Gland Problem?
Sankari replied to jabbawok's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My first dog had Anal gland problems. She was on the BARF diet and it made them much much worse. She had them cleaned out every 2 weeks and were infected each time. After a few diet changes and no improvement we had a choice to have them removed. So after alot of thought on pros and cons we had them removed back in 2006. It was a complex operation but well worth it. She was so much happier. We ended up never giving her BARF food again as not long before the op she was diagnosed with a pancreatic enzyme deficiency and diabetes. She always had problems tolerating certain foods and we found it easier on her to just feed dry. We had to wait for her to be strong enough for the op as she had lost nearly 10kg in bodyweight in 3 weeks so had to wait til she was up to a healthy weight and not going downhill. Hope you find what may help the dog. It's an awful thing to deal with. My girl was a very unwell unhealthy dog most her life so being able to have the op and get through it was a miracle. She lived 2 more yrs with other health problems mostly due to bad breeding (was from a puppy farm) before we made the decision to have her pts to Lymphoma in November 2008. -
Thanks for suggestion. She has a very severe sensitive stomach and she reacts very easily. I cant give her any raw foods so cant try the sardines plus i dont think i ever will give sardines to dogs the smell just makes me want to Charlotte gets brushed a few times a week. I will get a skin scraping done to check if there is an underlying cause.

Is that the one at health food shops? I have used it before and it isnt really suitable for Charlotte. She gets terrible farts constantly when she's on it and when i used it she had the runs. I stopped giving it to her as i cant have her getting stomach upsets. Is there something else which is better than that? I usually bath Charlotte every 4 to 6 weeks as that is when she gets very smelly. I dont consider it too often.

Hi all, Has anyone got suggestions for severe flaking itchy skin? My 3.5yr old Golden Retriever who has really great skin normally is flaking like no tomorrow. I got a groomer to bath her in Aloveen which is what i always use but it is no better. She went swimming a week ago somewhere we havent been before and it seems it has occured only a few days after that. She eats a good quality diet which is Advance sensitive skin and stomach (has a sensitive stomach). She has been on this food since end of Feb or early march. I cant remember exactly. She hasnt had any issues and the food has been fantastic for her. She also gets fish oil capsules nightly. Any ideas of how to get rid of this flaking skin? It's driving her insane she keeps scratching like no tomorrow.

I have been bathing in aloveen for quite some time and my dogs have licked it with no effects, though if a pup consumed a fair amount it might, not sure Congrats on your puppy.

Tiles i think are ceramic and have that slippery feel to them. I wouldnt mind using products on floors rather than something on her paws as like i've already said i need something for us people as well as dogs. We've slipped countless times on our behinds and god it kills! The people who built this house used wall tiles on the floor (which is why it's so slippery) as well as the walls. Several things they did wrong. Until we've got the funds to renovate the entire house and take up all the tiles and replace with something different, we're after an alternative until then which will benefit my dog and also ourselves. I trim the hair around the pads on a very regular basis.
-
um that only solves my girl's issues with tiles, rather something that i can put down to stay on tiles so it will not be slippery for everyone as well as dogs.
-
yes that's what i'm after. Even us humans are slipping on them.
-
I was wondering if anyone knows a product i can get to coat tiles so my Golden Retriever doesnt slip on them. Our tiles are in three quarters of the house so it is important to prevent her from slipping and hurting herself. I was told of a product a while ago but i cant for the life of me remember the name Any suggestions??!?!! ETA: She is just over 3.5yrs old

I am not sure about males, but i had my previous dog from a puppy and she was toilet trained in 2 days with determination and perserverence with taking her out each time she had slept a while, eaten, drank or hadnt been out for a while. She had one accident in the house then never anything else until she got sick and lost a bit of control of things she was 6yrs when she died.

Can A Dog Get Kennel Cough Despite Being Vaccinated?
Sankari replied to LoremIpsum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My GR who went to rainbow bridge in November, had a bad case of KC despite being vaccinated against it. She had a secondary infection and was on the verge of being hospitalised as she was on the verge of pneumonia. She got better eventually with antibiotics. She had a dark green snotty nose, coughing and if we let her outside she was only allowed to walk as if she ran or trotted she had shortness of breath. Was fine otherwise though. God i hope i dont come in contact with it again though it's awful. Must say the KC wasnt involved in why she was pts. She ended up being diagnosed with Aggressive Lymphoma and had a very short time (1 week or 2 at the most) so we did the right thing by Lucy and let her go. I quarantined Lucy for 3 weeks when she was sick and an extra 3 weeks from last cough except for when she had to go to the vet. which we were taken straight in to avoid spreading to other dogs in there. Charlotte didnt get much of it, she barely had a cough at all. Still quarantined her anyway. Charlotte went mental but i didnt want to risk other dogs. I wouldnt be worried unless she starts showing other symptoms or she gets worse then she'll probably need some antibiotics. -
Rex: I am sorry to hear of you finding Sam in those circumstances, but on the positive side of things you now have closure. How are you and the kids coping? Run free Rex and Sam. I am sure they are both with Lucy and Cloudy and are all happily running through meadows in Rainbow bridge. ;)

Wednesday was 6 months since i lost my little Lucy (Golden Retriever). I am sure Lucy & Cloudy (also a golden) will be with Bliss keeping her company and showing her all the lovely animals in rainbow bridge to be friends with. It is always difficult to lose our animals but I found alot of comfort in knowing Lucy and Cloudy which i lost less than 18 months apart are in a better place pain free. Cloudy i lost less than 18 months before Lucy. Lucy was 6 wks shy of her 6th Birthday when we had her pts November 2008 after finding out she had an extremely aggressive and advanced Lymphoma and was in a great deal of pain. Cloudy had ruptured a disc in her spine which caused paralysis this happened just 7 wks after her rescue in July 2007. Both my girls will always be in my heart and remembered in the happy times I know how difficult it must be in this time apliss

I am sorry for your loss. Fly free Bliss

My GR started on it when she was younger than your dog, and it didnt have any side effect. In fact it was the only thing that didnt cause stomach issues. She had reactions to all the other ones we tried. She had it every few months (Hip & Elbow dysplasia and Arthritis from 10 months of age). I noticed a massive difference in her pain

Ellie will have many golden friends to play with. Lucy my golden was PTS in November i'm sure she'll take Ellie under her wing.

Rexiam I am sorry what you have had to go through. This really hits me close to home what the vet found, but you gave him the best life a goldie could hope for. Give everyone a hug from me and i am in tears. I may not have met him, but i felt like i knew him. Rest In Peace Rex. Go find Lucy in Rainbow Bridge and play with her.
