I was inside on DOL as usual with my dog inside by my side and I heard a commotion outside so i went to investigate and heard a dog fight next door - 3 JRT Xs live there, 2 bitches and 1 dog. Anyway i looked over the fence and told the youngest to cut it out and then see that she had the middle aged one by the throat tossing her about. Then finally she stopped but the middle dog wasnt moving, blood everywhere and she's dead. The middle dog and the youngest are the bitches. Only about a month ago i had rescued the middle one from being hit by a car (it got out under the gate). The woman loves these dogs dearly and told us if she came home to find one gone she'd be devastated. It's fairly warm day, and she usually isnt home from work til about 6pm or so. I dont have her contact number, do I ring the ranger? Put a note on her door? I don't know what to do. I wonder if i dont do anything will she think we did something to her dog. I cant believe the dog actually killed her. I know bitches are not good together but the middle one wasnt doing anything they get along well together and as far as i know the one that died from the fight was sick looking bones all exposed whereas the one who killed her is very fat for a JRT. Any help appreciated!!!

I would be giving fish oil everyday. My dog gets 2x 1000mg fish oil, 1x 500mg vitamin C , 1x 1500mg Glucosamine and she gets Joint guard. This is what she gets everyday. Once to twice a week she goes swimming as well. She is a real waterbaby. You dont have to get in the water of rivers/lakes well i dont but my dog is always very good and comes back. I stand on the edge of the water and watch her. Down here we have a beautiful place called Kepala which is a dog resort and I hire the pool out for half an hour once a week and she goes in there and does laps. It's built beautiful muscle tone up in her legs. Swimming is fabulous for dogs!

One of my dogs was diagnosed with Lymphoma at just under 6yrs old. Prognosis was extremely poor - 1 week or 2 at the most. Treatment was no option for her due to how aggressive and it being in end stage at diagnosis, I decided it was best for her to be put to sleep. I do believe some people have had success with Chemo if their dogs are not in the aggressive end stage that my girl was. If your dog is in early stages Chemo would be worth a try, and i believe puggy puggy knows of anti cancer diets be worth sending a PM to her. Best of luck with the visit, and let us know how you get on.

Bronte At Her First Herding Clinic
Sankari replied to SmoothieGirl's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Well Done Bronte. She'll get there, looks like she was having fun. -
Glad you've found what it is. Also to add I will never give the yearly heartworm injection either. Risks are just not worth it IMO. I give a monthly tablet like Tyra on the 1st of every month and it cant be forgotten.

I agree with everything Shell said. My dog too doesnt show any symptoms other than an ear that really stinks and if i touch her ear she squeals in discomfort. Within a couple days it starts oozing so i always take her to the vet as early as possible. Untreated ear infections get severe very quickly in my experience. One thing you can do is try the malaseb ear wash, this is the only thing that doesnt sting my dogs ears so can recommend it.

I am so sorry to hear what's happened to your little girl. I cant offer advice or cost etc, but i do know she'll need to be crate rested when she comes home whether it is surgery or not. Also as hard as it is, stay positive! Let us know what the Orthopedic vet says in the morning. Keeping you all in my thoughts :(

Degenerative Arthritis - Treatment Options
Sankari replied to MolassesLass's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Cartrophen has lasted a very short time with my 4yr old GR who was diagnosed with DJD in her right hip back in September. She has had one course when diagnosed, then one booster one month later which lasted 2 1/2 months. The vet said the booster would give her 12 months relief. I am not overly happy with this treatment method but it worked fabulously on one of my dogs who passed over the bridge back in November 2008. She is also on Joint guard daily and i am about to look into some other treatments as well. I was going to look into bowen/reiki but unfortunately to get someone out to our place would be costing us a fortune. I could not find anyone under $75 to come out Considering it's a regular thing required usually every what 4-6 weekly it's not a cost I would be able to budget in my current financial state. She also goes swimming on a weekly to twice weekly basis. I am currently giving her Metacam to give us the chance to look into another treatment method to use for her. Rimadyl was a waste of money for her also, it does absolutely nothing. ETA: She is in a lean condition, that helps alot on their joints. -
Hi all, i've worked out which way to go, allowing about an hour just in case. I'm planning to get there at about 9am so that there will be someone i can ring inside to come out to help me carry a HUGE 5kg English Angora and a playpen to put it in. I better start packing for tomorrow and get an early night soon or else i will burn out the next 2 days and not be able to go to kepala sunday.

Caulfield Pet Expo Aka Lydnhurst & Metropolitan Ca
Sankari replied to LizT's topic in General Dog Discussion
I posted in the thread in general but no answers. I am going tomorrow and saturday for a display stand. I am wondering the easiest non scary way to get to Caulfield from Mill Park. By non scary i mean my mum hates driving on freeways. I found one way says 27 mins, another says 42 mins and another says 59 mins now i'm all confused! -
I am going to Caulfield Expo as a display stand with Rabbits Friday and Saturday and I am unsure what way to go. Last year my friend took me with her but she's not going this year and dont really wish to take 6 rabbits on a train! I am going from Mill Park and if possible want to avoid freeways! I dont drive so have got my mum to take me and drop us off, and she REALLY hates driving on freeways as all the signs here there and everywhere scare her. Any help appreciated. Pointees: I find Saturday VERY busy. Well it was last year. This will be my 4th year going. First two i went to look and buy stuff and it wasnt overly crowded in there on the friday. Saturday more people coming through.

Thanks Golden Rules. Her coat is actually alot longer and alot thicker, but those photos were taken shortly after a good groom - I always take photos when she's clean or reasonably clean at least so she looks well groomed in the second one but it was about to rain on holiday with me. She is a natural poser but do you think it's easy to get a photo of her standing straight? It's virtually impossible! That's my best attempt at a standing photo. The first one she was running for ducks after a swim in the pond.

I say ignore what people tell you. I was once told mine was overweight at 25kg by a vet, needless to say i didnt return there. Our current vet says Charlotte looks fabulous I sent these pics to her breeder and she said she looks a lovely weight. My GR is 24.8kg. She isnt what i call a small goldie but i find too much more and she does look fat. She has a very long thick coat compared to alot of goldies i've seen, i honestly have not seen many overweight goldens in my area, most are ideal or lean weights Here's a couple photo taken of her late last year, her condition hasnt changed much at all...

Purebred Is Best But What About Other Pets?
Sankari replied to Wilderblu's topic in General Dog Discussion
Purebred pedigree dog here. All my rabbits are Purebred Pedigreed and extremely good temperaments arent they Kirty -
Have you thought about a condition called EPI (Enzyme Pancreatic insufficiency). One of my previous GRs had it and kept losing weight (she had also had pancreatitis) the vet put her on a supplement called Ezyplex which helped her absorb nutrients from her diet and therefor stopped losing weight she maintained weight reasonably ok until the last 6 months or so of her life (she was diagnosed with Lymphoma). Best of luck for the blood results, it sounds just like what my girl was like back then definately ask about that condition. It's easily managed with the supplement and highly recommend that product.

I too have been using Joint Guard since September and think it's great

I buy mine on Vet n Pet Direct, but i found it cheaper at my current vet instead. I've asked to purchase a box of 12 from the vet, just waiting for them to let me know when it comes in. Thanks for that info about Potassium Citrate. I was wondering what that does

I highly recommend Lectade I use it for rabbits on hot days and Charlotte too. Charlotte also gets it on days if shes had the runs or vomitting. It is fabulous. I get the sachet ones. I buy it in 12 sachet bulk lots but also comes in singles.

12 Yr Old Golden Retreiver Coughing Up Blood
Sankari replied to indigirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
Indigirl, Give the old fella healing vibes from us. What an experience you've had. I would have done the same and brought him home. Best for him to be home where you can keep a close eye on him. You've done a great job, hope his owner gets back soon. Poor Reg. -

Nutro Natural Choice Dog Food

I feed it to my GR. We have had no problems. She is fed this as well as raw Roo. -
I am asking for a friend of mine who has 2 GSDs one is short coated and other is long coated. She's after a groomer van who comes out to her house that is able to use warm water instead of cold. Her dogs are very good but the shorter coated one, is a little arthritic which is the main reason she's needing someone who can use warm water for her two girls. Any recommendations appreciated.

My girl does it all in one go ETA: She doesnt do the sniff around, she does the whole "you gotta go, you gotta go. who cares where you go!"
