  1. Ah, thanks for that! I was missing that first fullstop.
  2. Quite interesting. I thought only a couple of the crosses showed staffy or pitbull features but seemed to be quite a few ridgeback/mastiff/pointer mix types. One query though, I sent an email to the address given to ask to please be added to the list of people who would receive a copy of the summary results, but the email bounced and of course survery monkey won't let me back in again to check the email address. Could anyone who can access the survey please PM me that contact address so that I can ask again? Thanks.
  3. Just catching up, hey, JJ when you metioned the paint job on your store van it reminded me of something. Do you think your wrap paint job will be as good as this one advertising the Copenhagen Zoo? Nice to hear you are finally getting some surgical action Tenties, hope the black eye is well clear before the Christmas social round starts. Had a great time at Hamilton, no mud at all, unfortunately we could have done with some...you should see the assortment of weirdly mangled tent pegs we all now have after trying to hammer them into petrified ground! There was a small swap meet on as well at the grounds so I did some car part shopping and fell in love with a great Commer Superpoise. My roomie for the weekend introduced me to Trev's Bargain stores - yikes so sad Hamilton is the closest one to me - luckily we had room in the van and trailer for the dog beds camping bits and bobs etc etc we purchased there! ooops -edited to fix link

You have to be careful when relying on databases from other countries. Of the several large audits by breed done in this country, to my knowledge none of them have listed Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD) as endemic or even common in Australian pugs. Nor have any come to my attention in more than 35 years involvement with this breed. There are also other problems that seem endemic to the breed in other countries which are unknown in Australia, for instance Pug Dog Encephalitis. On the other hand I do know of more than one pug fitting the category of OCD as in obsessive compulsive disorder...it is an extreme of the bell curve of the pug personality!

  6. Just a suggestion - have you read "Control Unleashed" by Leslie McDevitt? She has some very sound suggestion for just the type of situation you are describing. It is worth a read.
  7. If he is chew happy might he chew his way out of a soft crate? Is there any reason you don't want to start with a wire one? Different types of crates are described here. Your local auction sites, such as ebay, trading post, gumstree, oztion etc. are great places to search for crates - often the second-hand ones are very good value.
  8. Well that just aint good enough RP....you came in here and dangled the bait and now you dont want it ???? where abouts in Ballarat would you most likely be ??? although i have to be at Cape Clear to drop a dog off.... Don't get cheeky with me!!! You are the bait dangler - going to be so close and you pick a day where I have appointments either end. Slack, really slack - dashing my hopes like that. Actually I have a lot of time to kill in Ballarat between the two appointments so quite likely we can work something out - I will PM you with my schedule for the day
  9. My Trolley is being repaired at my Sisters ( GSD's ) by her husband... i was going to take it to the maker of it( it was made in Geelong ) but only got to my sisters lol, i will be at Cape Clear this Thursday coming ?? maybe staying the night and picking the Trolley up the next day on a round trip past my Sisters on the way home ?? are you at Lismore ??? i go through there to get to Cape Clear ?? OIC that makes sense, and your BIL will charge a lot less to fix it too! I am north of Lismore, that is about 1/2 hour from me as well but on this Thursday coming I will be in Ballarat.
  10. Yes true for amounts of anaesthetic drugs etc. but for the brachy breeds the type of anaesthesia and the need for a qualified assistant at the anaesthesia station is also very important. I bet I know one vet who is going to get a big detailed grilling tomorrow before a precious pug is handed over!!!!!
  11. Hey tenties, Cape Clear is only about half hour or so from me what day will you be there? Why on earth would you go to Geelong for a trolley repair - doesn't Warrnambool have any metal workers????
  12. Twelve inches gooey mud: pack gumboots - check; pack extra gazebo to use as mudroom - check; pack doggy life jackets so that the baby pug does not sink underground - check. Honestly I don't expect anything to be predictable weatherwise this year - not after Benalla which needed gumboots and stilts for the sucking mud in driving rain in the middle of January! OMG that is usually only a four hour leisurely drive for me but it took me seven hours that day as that was admidst the floods. We all said that day, exhibiting soaking dogs in the pouring rain in gumboots, drizabones and Akubras - "Geez we must be mad!" But I stuck it out to the end and the sun did come out for general specials so I thought oh the roads might be visible for the drive home, it will be quicker! And the floods had receded in many places but the emergency services and local shires had helpfully put "Flood Hazard - Detour" signs up blocking me from what were now dry roads (admittedly they had been deeply awash when I paraplaned through them on the way up early that morning) so I had to come home nearly via Gippsland... the gear took two days to dry out on the covered back deck. Yep, mad as bloody hatters. Twelve inches of gooey mud won't faze me at all. You piker Mick! Those bubs will be quite old enough to fend for themselves for one day, gee you could should bring a shovel and a couple of plastic storage boxes and help yourself to that lovely gooey mud for hibernation chambers for frogs - think laterally, man! I bet the Hamilton mud is much much better than ordinary old Lismore mud LOL!!! Entries haven't closed yet....
  13. Geez what a lot of catching up to do mixed good news and bad with the'Bool crew. JJ those are beautiful bubbas, tlc sorry for the whooping cough and tenties: bloody doctors that treat you like a speciment not a person!!! I've been in the wars a bit here but we soldier on hi ho hi ho. Thought I'd jump in and ask is anyone going to the Hamilton weekend (confirmation showing?) I have entered and will be there Fri and Sat nights at he caravan park across the road and I thought does anyone want to catch up for maybe dinner Friday or drop in to the gazebo for a BYO picnic on the sat or the sun? It's the last weekend in August (schedule June Gazette). So okay Hamilton is not exactly next door for you all but it's the closest I'm gonna get for quite a while LOL! EF fat finger typos (probably missed some...)
  14. If you were in North QLD we would all automatically say "pig dog hunting type' which usually comes from a mix of pointer types and mastiff types but not too many razorbacks loose around Gumeracha are there?
  15. Some breed clubs hold these "fun' days or 'family" days, plus once or twice a year sometimes there are large pet expos which the breed clubs attend with dogs to get them in the public eye. If several breeders are saying this, it sounds like the breed club holds them regularly - contact the Newfoundland Club in your state. Just checked - you are VIC, so contact numbers should be available from Dogs Vic. ETA: club contact details per DogsVic site are Secretary Megan Bundy ph 59685929.
  16. I will keep the name they come with if it suits them, but otherwise will wait for them to display the personality trait that makes a name fit them - that usually appears within a few days as you get to know them. If they do respond to their old names, I like to keep the vowel sounds but that's about all - I don't go for rhymes or anything. For instance, my Cheddar arrived with the name "Teddy" which he was accustomed to but which didn't really capture his personality. His new name came because of his big cheesy grin! So with a name like Krusty (the clown from the Simpsons??) I would just keep the "ugh" sound and end up with Trucker or Honey or Bucket or Crumpet....you see how it goes? Half the time, even if you do keep their old names they can end up with several nicknames as well that don't sound anything alike but they answer to them all anyway! Slightly OT, but on the farm working dogs changing their names my grandfather had a succession of male kelpies for droving and yard work. Each one had the SAME name - Laddie. When he retired a dog and was training up a new one, they were "Old Laddie" and "Young Laddie". This applied to about seven different dogs! He said it saved confusion??????
  17. Hi Stack, he won't be able to start in either while he is a puppy. The best thing to do would be to join Ballarat Dog Obedience Club - as a puppy he can still do obedience training classes - he will need those to learn the basics before he can do much offleash work anyway. Plus you can watch the agility and flyball members doing their thing and learn from them. They have demonstration days now and then - keep an eye on their website for dates.
  18. I noticed you on FB little spunk! I hardly ever go into the griff thread any more though I used to lurk there a lot - so if you are going to be pictured in there often I will start looking again!
  19. X 2. I really think that if you push this line, and that of health testing to ensure suitability for breeding, then eventually the public will know that going to an ethical breeder (ANKC or performance) is the best way to aquire their companion. Plus we need to find a way to make it known who bred that problem dog down the street - so that particular breeder will either not breed again or will be a hell of a lot more careful in choosing their puppy buyers and supporting them with advice for the lifetime of the dog. Something like having the breeder details on the chip for life and a warning notice or something issued to the breeder everytime a dog is surrendered, inpounded or has a genuine nuisance claim investigated and upheld on it. Copy of notice to the local council of the breeder - more than x number of notices in a year, investigate and if necessary revoke their kennel licence. They will be a damn sight more careful about supporting their puppy buyers with training advice and taking care to breed healthy dogs (that are not surrendered due to costs of health treatments) and assisting in rehoming others etc. It would mean breeders become damn fussy about only selling to reponsible pet owners - puppy farmers and bybs would suffer most. Sorry, slight OT.
  20. Just on the committee menbers not showing at their own shows, some breed clubs have this already, I feel that it does cut down on people wanting to be on committee. What is wrong with a rule that says committee members just can't HANDLE at their own shows? Wouldn't that make most people happy? You would probably get someone from another breed to handle your own dogs on the day.
  21. Don't forget to sew on sturdy tapes or tabs so that you can roll up and fasten independently any side that you want to open. You will want to sew the top tabs into the seam with the trolley top cover and the bottom tabs on the inside bottom of the panels. Want an extra headache? Have a detachable pocket and extra velcro on the inside of a panel, so that you can still have a pocket when that side is rolled up. Or for simplicity have only wall panels and thread them with curtain stretch wire top and bottom. Won't need to be able to roll 'em up - just draw or undraw. Saves that contant washing of the top panel, too. But if that's too easy you wanted to make your life more complicated you could pleat them
  22. I was a lurker for many years, then finally joined when I just had to set someone straight about something . For the life of me I can't even remember what it was now....
  23. I would think the first biopsy would be a Fine Needle Aspiration, pretty much just like taking a blood sample, no anaesthetic required - unless he's really, really reactive with stuff like that? Maybe some Rescue Remedy for him beforehand in that case? Or for you LOL!!
