I am not sure about Sydney Anne - but I charge $25 for a pug including nails; I expect it maybe a bit more expensive as I am in a small country town and to be perfectly honest people here just wouldn't pay more than that. I have 2 pugs I do on a monthly basis and the owners do not have to bath in between so everyone is happy I love grooming them, they are both such happy dogs I have to hold their tails out the way to dry thier rumps as they wag them so much I can't get that part dry othewise

If the vet was looking atthe hair down the ear canal why didn't he remove it then and there? Even if a sedative was required would have only been 5 minutes and jobs done Sounds very odd. Try the ear wash but I can't see it being successful. Depending on how far down it is, if you had some haemostats you could have a go yourself. Obviously only if your confident the dog won't move as you could puncture the ear drum if dog moves at crucial moment.

Grooming Advice Required
Blue Fox 001 replied to muffinmclay's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Couldn't agree more t-time. Our boy came from a fabulous breeder and professional groomer who has a similar routine to you and by the time we got him at 8 weeks he was more experienced than me For a pup who was subjected to a learner groomer he has turned out pretty good I reckon -
Noticed Any Changes In Your First Dog?
Blue Fox 001 replied to tez's topic in General Dog Discussion
Fantastic photos everyone, they all looks so happy to have a companion. I am trying my hardest at the moment to talk the OH into another dog to keep our standard poo company. We had to have our older GSD pts last September and I think "T" would love to have someone to run and play with. I think the OH loves the way things are and the amount of attention he gets from T at the moment so he is afraid that if T has someone else to play with he'll get left out -
With enough pressure the Council could change their development plan and make puppy farms non-complying within the district/shire, this would take a plan amendment report, but this would not stop this application if it is complying. There are very good reasons that there are plans and legislation when it comes to development applications so that individuals can not influence approvals to suit themselves unfortunately this also means that ethical/moral grounds are not justification to reject an application.
-
JRZipper - by all means put moral pressure on the Council BUT someone really needs to look at the application, see if it is complying development or something out of the ordinary which can in fact be contested. I am in SA so don't know the Development Act in Victoria like JR obviously does but I imagine a lot of it is the same. Council can not refuse the application if it is in fact complying. The Development Plan for the shire will indicate if this property is zoned for this type of development or not. Our development for a small boarding kennel (no we don't breed anything here ) was non-complying - the kennel component was complying but the dwelling we proposed was not. If the objecting neighbours had objected to the house instead of the kennels they may have been able to have our development stopped - they didn't, all their objections were against the kennels which the Council could not take into account because they were the complying component of the development.
-
As others have said finding a suitable kennel at this stage might rule it out but I would think a smaller establishment would be fine. We have many rescue and pound dogs come to stay and not one has been traumatised by being kenneled, and a few have only been a week in their new home before medical issues forced them to come and stay Honestly the owners worry a lot more than the dogs generally do :D Edit to add - I wouldn't kennel them together though, next to each other sure but in a confined space with nowhere to retreat too is asking for trouble, as is leaving them home together unattended.

Clomicalm For Separation Anxiety
Blue Fox 001 replied to charli73's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We had our Shepherd on Clomicalm for his seperation anxiety and it really didn't seem to make an ounce of difference. I persevered for 6 months but eventually gave up, wish I had known about the Chinese herbs BUT I have a border collie and a cat who board with me and they both do very well on it. The difference in the border collie is amazing, I actually told the owners that boarding her was not an option anymore as she was just too stressed, they brought her back with the Clomicalm and she now has a great time The cat I couldn't get a hand on the entire time she was here, now she is relaxed, purrs regularly and eats everything put in front of her -
Clipping The Designer Dogs
Blue Fox 001 replied to alpha bet's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I only started grooming other peoples dogs out of necessity eg. no other groomer for 400km and it has only taken me 2 years to become disillusioned with the human race. 90% of my clients are Xbred, we're in the country and they don't call them DD's out here just plain old Shih X's most of them, not bought from pet shops or puppy farms usually the neighbours mistake or Jo Blow from up the road's bitch got out blah blah ..... Anyway I have tried to educate every single client who comes in the door and I reckon maybe 5 in 100 have actually changed their ways and now brush their dogs between grooming. I had one just last Saturday - one of very few purebreds I have a Lhasa - the dog is on a 4 week rotation wash one visit and then clip off 4 weeks later. She rang and cancelled the last bath only visit cause he 'looks and smells fine' and moves the full clip visit for another month later, brings him in on Saturday and the poor dog is a matted mess, faeces caked all over his rear, dog is constipated and sleeps on the kids bed and she has the nerve to say 'Oh he just got like this this week cause we've been soooo busy' How stupid do they think we are? OK rant over! -
Quick & Easy Grooming Solution
Blue Fox 001 replied to FranVT's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Another one for PP products here The Reviva Coat is great, I just use it straight too. I also love the Coat Rescue and I put a mix of their conditioner, seabreeze oil and swishy coat in his final rinse - the dog has more product than I do Ohh and the Pixie Dust is fantastic, I put it on my clients dogs who have kids they just love it -
Where Will Your Next Dog Come From
Blue Fox 001 replied to poodlefan's topic in General Dog Discussion
Always a pedigree but not necessarily from a DOL breeder. I think I got lucky with our poodle in that we ended up pretty much by pure luck getting a wonderful breeder, but from the very experienced people on the poodle sub forum I have learnt so much and will be better prepared when we're shopping around for the next one. -
I think the idea that the 'bitch is improved by having one litter' is an old wives/farmers tale. I live in a rural area and it comes up quite regularly, I think old farmers perpetuate the myth and it is proving very hard to dispel at least around here it is :D VERY ANNOYING! And yes I always correct my clients when they come up with the fancy oodle name. I have just joined a non dog forum and my OH had to stop me giving one of them a lecure as they have just bought 2 cavoodles from the same litter

I'm so sorry for your loss James. Although we're not there with you if there is anything we can do please just ask.

Just had to add my OH and our then 4 month (I think) standard poodle The are both currently sitting next to me on the 3 seater couch - OH down one end, me up the other and the dog stretched out full length between us with his head in his lap

I have been reading about equal parts apple cider vinegar to water as a final rinse (leave in) has only one had any success with this? And apple cider vinegar in drinking water? Perhaps this might help to neutralise the odour from the inside! It could just be a lab smell, although we board quite a few and none seem this bad
-
Thanks guys - I will see if they want to try washing her in malaseb, hopefully that will help easy the smell
-
Is it wheat/cereals in dry food that can cause the problem? I am not sure what dry the feed her, but she is basically a raw food dog eg. chicken frames, lamb flaps It is not an anal gland smell, it seems to be just oozing out of her skin, not from any particular location if you know what I mean! Ears and teeth are good. Just went and sniffed her flews and they don't smell any worse than the rest of the dog. I am not sure if they have washed her in Malaseb. I don't have any on hand to try her in unfortunately.

We have a labrador staying with us at the moment and the owners report that even a few hours after having a bath she smells doggy again. She has been with us for 2 days and she really is quite on the nose. She doesn't have any skin problems or allergies, beautiful coat and is well looked after. She is on a predominantly raw diet, some dry at times. Anyone have any suggestions even if it keeps her smell free for a week or so would be great. I remember reading about a final rinse of vinegar and thought this was to neutralise any shampoo and perhaps odour is it worth trying and if so what sort of dilution?

Couple of weeks ago I stripped my first Border, and last Friday my first Cairn I was/am terrified of stripping, never been shown so I am doing it by reading "Notes from the Grooming Table". Luckily they are both pets and the owners just want them stripped so as not to ruin the coat, both owners loved the end result and I was a bit pleased that I hadn't completely ruined the look of the dogs Both fantastic temperaments, first time grooming for both and they were just wonderful - so much nicer than the nasty, bitey shih X's I seem to get!

You won't get the choppy look if you use a #30 under your S/S blades I have been using them for about 18 months over a #30 and they are great. You might find that once you get proficient at f,f & t you'll want a #30, I started with a #15 but quickly got jack of how quickly he got furry again so now it's a #30 for us.

How gorgeous is he

I understand what your saying frufru - clipped, stripped or scissored is altering the naturally occuring coat to enhance the dogs appearance for show or to maintain a tradition. Good shot of the airedale before grooming - now that looks au la natural It isn't just poodles who have this done as you said and yet people seem to mention the poodle first

That is so funny Aussie3 I just said last night we should get an Elmo for our boy Hope he likes his as much when we can get to a place that sells them. Would love to see a vid too

Purebred Is Best But What About Other Pets?
Blue Fox 001 replied to Wilderblu's topic in General Dog Discussion
Currently have: 1 x purebred poodle 1 x moggie (stray) Have had: 1 x purebred GSD 1 x purebred chinchilla - PTS at 13 months due to Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) 2 x moggies 1 x crossbed border collie 1 x purebred warmblood 1 x purebred thoroughbred Over all the crossbred have been very hardy both dogs and cats, but then apart from the chinny the other purebreds have had no major illnesses either **touch wood**. Having said that we won't be having any other xbreds in this house - expecting the next cat will be a Maine Coon too GayleK :D -
First Aid Kits For Dogs
Blue Fox 001 replied to Blue Fox 001's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
spottychick I found a pdf of what's in their first aid kit but it was from back in 2007 so not sure if they are still doing one. I have decided to make my own so I can get a bigger box to house it all in and get what I want. We have started a list over in the poodle thread if you want to have a look - only early stages yet but I'm sure it will build :D
