Cut Pad On Paw....what To Do?
marckymarc replied to charliehotel's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The same thing happened with Ruby at the dog park - I took the advice of the great people here and it healed brilliantly! You need to fill a large tub with salt water and gently move your dogs paw through the water - it will get rid of any dirt that is deep in the cut. I was amazed at how much dirt came out doing this. Then you need to bathe the cut with betadine to ensure it doesnt get infected. I wrapped rubys paw in a bandage later this but didnt last on her very long! Bathe it with the betadine a few times a day whole the cut is open to keep it clean and help it heal. When the wound started healing and wasnt as deep then I started using paw paw between betadine treatments to help. Rubys was pretty deep but within 2 weeks was completely better. Hope this helps! -
Thanks vjb, do you know what the name of the powder was? As usual I am far more worried than Ruby is!!!! But good to know of a similar situation that turned out all fine...she'll be shattered at limited exercise though!

Thanks again for all your replies. I bathed it in salt water, aplied pressure until it stopped bleeding then used bedadine and wrapped in a bandage. The only problem is making her rest! She's been on it all day and limping slightly now but still doesnt seem to be any major problems. I just bathed it again and applied more antiseptic, the wound is quite deep but doesnt appear to have anything stuck in it and it isnt bleeding so i'll keep an eye on it for the next few days to make sure it's heeling and not getting infected. Thanks so much again

We have just come back from the dog park and my dog is bleeding everywhere :D her paw has a cut through it - it doesnt seem to bother her as she is still walking on it (and was running around everywhere at the park as normal) and she ill let me touch it but there is a bit of blood. has anyone had a similar experience? does it just heal by itself? i am not sure what to do to. thanks in advance

Puppy Waking Up Too Early
marckymarc replied to marckymarc's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi all, Thanks for all of your replies... Good News!!!! Pretty much from the first day of daylight savings she has gone back to normal, in fact I have had to wake her up the last couple of days. I was mainly worried that it was a biological clock or routine thing that was waking her early and not the light... thank god it was the light. Also, I realised that I posted this thread in the wrong subject stream... won't happen again Thanks. Marc -

yeah... the dark room last night seemed to work ok... it was 5:45 instead of 5am which i can handle. it is amazing how valuable 45mins is to you at that time of the morning. hehehehe i am hoping that daylight savings and changing up of routine helps next week. -

Thanks for the prompt responses guys... The Spotted Devil - Good point about it getting lighter later in the morning. Our house is quite light so it may be worth covering some windows. I'll give that a try. Lewis & Lyn - I did think of mixing up the routine, however our work commitments usually means we are only just home before dusk. We may be able to change the routine with daylight savings. Thanks for the suggestion. Love the lead around the neck idea... but that is more of a problem for the 16yo than the pup, she is quite good at staying calm at the sight of the lead. poodle fan - I hope you are right about the light. I should clarify that we dont just walk her in the mornings, we take her to a designated dog park and try to exhaust her as much as we can with the ball and other dogs. Although, hopefully with daylight savings too, we can add an evening visit to the park too. I'll let you know how I go. -
Hi all, I am new to this forum and have a question I would like some assitance with... We have a 7mth old German Shorthaired Pointer called Ruby Tuesday. The vet told us to feed her twice a day, so we have been feeding her some dry food in the morning at roughly 6am, then some can food and dry food at night. After we feed her in the morning, we take her (and our 16 yo Blue heeler X) for a walk to the local dog park. Our problem is that in recent weeks, Ruby has been deciding to wake up earlier and ealier. To the stage now that she wakes up at about 5am expecting to be fed and walked. She whines and occasionally barks to get our attention. We have tried ignoring her until we are ready to get up, or putting her outside until we are ready to feed her. The problem with putting her outside until we are ready is that she gets even louder outside which makes me worry about our neighbours at 5am in the morning. She is obviously excited about a) being fed and b) going for her daily run, so it is hard to be angry at her. But we need our sleep and with the upcoming day light saving time changes are fearing a 4am wake up call next week!!! Any suggested techniques would be appreciated.
