Bondi Vet guy was on. They talked about dog attacks. The female asked the question about whether she should be wary of her baby with other peoples dogs and she made a stupid remark along the lines of "it's not like their pit bulls or something" and the Bondi Vet guy actually said pit bulls are 7th on the list of dog attacks, but then went on to say the top three dogs likely to attack are cattle dogs, rotti's and german shepherds (I swear the latest poll I read listed jack russels and swf's as the most likely to bite?) but he went on to say the key is supervising children and keeping them away from dogs food and toys, so it wasn't too bad. Wasn't great though! Had some footage of pit bulls fighting.

Beladoza, so both your pups are at the vets hey? That's terrible, what a traumatic experience. I hope they get better soon!

Can you report to RSPCA just to get an inspector out to her? They might not do much but it would cause a little hassle and discomfort for her I'm sure.

She's adorable, but definitely seems tiny at 7.8kilos for a dane puppy. Staghounds can be a combination of many things so maybe she'll be small?

I have a problem barker but I am soooo thankful that over my back fence is another barker, to the left is an almost constant barker and over the road are two more barkers and two doors down is a highly aggressive barker... So it just seems that my neighbours are either owners of barking dogs or have gotten over it! Right now the cavalier next door is barking away but seriously, I'd never complain because I know my dogs bark too! Come move to my street people, our dogs can bark together!

I went to Wynnum recently and I'm almost positive the beaches said no dogs. So I walked my dogs down the pier and Napoleon did a huge poo right on the pier! I was so embarrassed but I'm sure he did it to be spiteful haha!

Erin, arent your girls purebred? Did you just do the test for the novelty factor? Meri from Kessels Rd Gxl is waiting on results for her bitsa dog but wasnt very happy when I told her the tests haven't proved to be very accurate!

So Im really keen to hear if you ended up including your collie in the wedding? How did it go?

I'd still recommend a vet, my ex's Amstaff once had a vaccination reaction so bad it had to be resolved with antiinflammatories!

Thats the 11kg+ tablet you've got there, you can give the blue packet (under 11kg tablet) to much smaller pups!

Grover Is Really Sick - Another Change
carrie replied to Trisven13's topic in General Dog Discussion
What a terrible thing to happen on Christmas! Hope Grover feels better soon, and that your bank balance isn't too damaged on public holiday vet charges -
Thankyou for your advice! I appreciate it alot! I've worked as a vet nurse, although I'm not fully qualified, but we haven't head any eyeball prolapses whilst I was working so I found it a bit tough. Napoleon has a complete temporary tarsorrhaphy, and the animal eye specialist has said that yes it needs to be in for two weeks minimum (as opposed to the surgeon originally recommending just one week) and Napoleon is on metecam, cephalexin and tramdol for the pain... I swear Napoleons doing better than I am, I've been so stressed and upset, he just wants to play!

I left for work at 2:45 yesterday, popped the dogs in their yard, and my housemate called me at 4:45pm... to tell me my chihuahua crossbreed's eyeball had popped out of his head. He brought him straight to me at work and then we rushed to the vets where Napoleon went into surgery immediately... I tell you what, I was almost physically sick. I'm a veterinary nurse and don't normally have a weak stomach but when it comes to my dogs, I don't cope at all. Surgery went well... Napoleon went home last night on pain relief, antibiotics, antiinflammatories and with his eye to be bathed, but we were up all night, he just couldn't settle with the Elizabethan collar on, and finally we got some sleep this morning, only a few hours, but by the time he woke up, his eye was more swollen and the discharge was all hard and caked over... Another trip to the vet and then after consulting an eye specialist, we have new medications and I'm just keeping him by my side for the next few weeks with regularly bathing... It's awful. I nearly fainted this morning after cleaning his eye out. That might sound pathetic but I just don't cope with my own dogs injuries... Anyone been through a prolapsed eyeball and have any advice?

Good Dental Or Oral Dry Food/kibble
carrie replied to westiemum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yeah very true, but I actually have no idea how different Proplan is to Supercoat so its very much a legit question... I wasn't trying to just be smart, I really do wonder how different the ingrediants are Advance cat doesn't seem to have the same smell as the advance dog I got once... Maybe I had a bad bag or an older one? Not sure. -
California Natural Food Not Irridated

The stores are supposed to all sell it for the same amount, whether they are franchised or company owned, and whether they are Pet Goods, Pets Para or Pets R Fun... So I would think everyone would sell it for the same amount? -

This might sound really petty but I don't like the smell of advance, it smells so artificial and chemical. And the bikkies seems to dry. I do like that it is australian made but it is made by pedigree so how different is it really to Pal? -

Actually it just occured to me that some Pet Goods Directs are franchised stores... meaning although they pay their franchisee fees to Global Pet Products and purchase all their stock from Global Pet Products, the franchisee themself isn't selling animals and therefore it isn't *as* bad... It would be interesting to know, Inspector Rex, if your friends store is franchised or company owned? Unfortunately at the end of the day, the stock still comes from Global. -

Yeah I know, I used to feed Evo... but I can't anymore. Because at the end of the day, Mr Diamond who started Pets Paradise is the owner of Global Pet Products, as well as Pets Paradise, as well as Pet Goods Direct, as well as Pets Are Fun... Different names, same company. I wonder if we could order it from any pet supply companies in America? I don't think thats possible quarantine wise is it? -

I have been really really happy with Royal Canin dental. There is Small Dog Dental for small dogs and then a Dental and Skin formula and I have been using both. One of the things I've really noticed is my fat little chihuahua lost the weight he needed to lose on the Dental and Skin formula, without me having to restrict him too much, and the dogs LOVE it. Plus it seems to be keeping their teeth quite good, after a dental scaling earlier this year. They are really funny. I got given a bag of Eukanuba Healthy Naturals to try and I tried it and the dogs ignored it, so I mixed it in with their Royal Canin and they pick out the Royal Canin and leave the Euk at the bottom of the bowl. -

Wow! I don't think the vets I work at charge for the prescriptions we do up... obviously you pay for the original consult and diagnosis but we just do them up as repeats, obviously as long as the animal is still in the valid prescription timespan... We also have about an $18 dispensing fee but we have the ability to waiver or change it for our long termers... maybe this could be requested in the case we're discussing here?

Wet Dog Food - Your Opinion Please
carrie replied to pennyw74's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I keep Advance canned foods in the cupboards for the nights when I run out of chicken or mince. The dogs eat Royal Canin biscuits but they really do like something soft at night as well, so I give them a bowl of chicken each or maybe two tablespoons of the tinned (they are only little dogs). I have tried Royal Canin and Hills tins but they were much more solid then the advance (although that could be a good thing) and the dogs preferred the advance. But it's really just for a treat for dinner.
