Yes Milbemax is made my the same company as Interceptor and does exactly the same thing, in a tablet form! It's generally cheaper too!

I lived in Darwin when Monica hit - although it didn't hit Darwin hard at all. We still made all necessary preparations - including emptying our cyclone shelter (we normally use it as a store room). Anyhow, two days before the cyclone was due, my Persian Raven walked into the shelter, planted himself in the corner under a metal shelf and did not move. I fed him in there and the door was open since there was no need to shut him in so he walked out to toilet then straight back in again. It was uncanny - like he knew that was the most safe, stable part of the house!

Awwww Misty- she's so beautiful! I'm glad to see she's still wearing the collar I gave her the day after surgery - it has a little chihuahua-shaped bell on it so next time she races out the door they can hear her jingling her bells!

Incredibly I was in the shop tonight and also spoke with the girl about the mice. She told me they have mites and I argued that they shouldn't be on sale. One mouse was also dripping with blood and when I made her come look at it, she also removed it. I realized I should have taken pictures before I complained I too will report to the RSPCA.

Oh. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Please PM me if emails are not working, I'd love to help in any way possible.

Hi Julie. Wow I have recieved no emails nor messages from you? How bizaar! I had another lady tell me recently she had left messages on my phone and I didn't get them from her either. I'm so sorry!
-
Sorry just to clarify because it sounds a bit daft, the vet wasn't told that Misty's owner had just had surgery. It almost sounded like I was saying he didn't realise the dog had surgery, but of course Misty had, but also her owner!

Wow sorry I've been out of touch for a week or so, I've been so ridiculously busy it's not funny (technically I work as a youth worker these days, I just do vet nursing as a locum on the side, but lately I've been doing 4-6 days locum work and 2-3 days youth work so I am a bit flat out!) There was a misunderstanding earlier in the week about housecalls and what not, I think Missty's owner got told the clinic didn't do housecalls when the message really was we wouldn't normally do a housecall for a suture removal unless there was a special circumstance and the vet didn't realise that she'd just had surgery! So as soon as I told him, we decided to ring her and offer a housecall and lo and behold, Misty's family walked in the door! They got a lift somehow, so all is well! Sorry I didn't see this post earlier! The staples are out and Misty is healing fantastically well! She is not just walking wonderfully but infact RUNNING! Steve, if you could PM or email me a list of things that Misty's owner needs. I think that through my other job I will have no problems getting some donations of goods. Sorry I've been slow to contact you back!

Sorry for the slow update. Here are some pictures of beautiful little Misty!

Toofarnorth - I need to talk to Julie about bill costs before she posts anything regarding those figures. I have really good news but don't want to announce it here until I have spoken to Julie on the phone.

I didn't work at the clinic today but I've just spoken to the Practice Manager and also the veterinarian emailed me this afternoon. They xrayed Missty today and found she had a distal femoral fracture which required amputation. Her little leg was amputated this afternoon, and she's doing extremely well and ready to go home tomorrow. I've been doing some fund raising up here as well, and so far have been able to put over $1000 towards Missty's bill. I've left a message for Julie to call me back and I'm hoping to talk to Pacers sometime soon for an update and I have some other good news. My heart broke a little when I got the email saying Missty had lost her leg, it's a tragic thing to happen. But from Missty's point of view, she's doing well and we trust she'll adjust to being a little tripod - she's a beautiful dog. To try and look on the positive side, at least she won't have the trauma of another invasive surgery, like what she would have had to go through if her leg had been able to be saved and pinned - I was concerned about the ongoing costs of a pin removal surgery and further veterinary costs. So whilst it's heartbreaking, I guess we can also be positive about it. I'll be back at work tomorrow and am really excited I'll get to see Missty go home, I'll ask her owner if I can take a photo of Missty because I'm sure you'd all love to see her beautiful little face. Thanks again everyone!

Thanks everybody! The clinic is Greencross at Moorooka. The address is 111 Beaudesert rd, Moorooka and the phone number is 07 38921322 if you'd like to donate directly. The little dogs name is Missty (double s is not a typo). This morning I'm not at work but I've called and she's doing well and is nice and bright. Obviously she's on pain relief and will be having xrays today to determine what kind of break it is and then surgery will likely be in the next few days (unlikely to be today but still possible) I'll be back at work tomorrow so will keep you up to date!

I hope I can post here without compromising the confidentiality of the situation. I'm the vet nurse involved. I have raised over $500 from our end tonight, I'll put it on her account tomorrow. Thankyou for everyone who is helping. I'm concerned that orthopedic surgeries sometimes have long term financial costs so am going to keep trying to raise money to keep Missty cared for. Julie can we say which vet clinic Misstys at? From a clinic point of view people could donate directly but I'm unsure what your Pacers protocol is. Thankyou so so much everyone. Missty is the perfect patient, she is gentle, loving and very special! Thankyou everyone for your help! This special family deserve it!

Outward Hound make a simple sling-style harness which I have found easier to use with patients at work due to it not having to be slipped around the legs. They retail for about $50.00 and are available through many pet stores and vets. One of the suppliers that sells them is called "MIK MAK" if you are looking to get your local pet store to order it in. If you go to www.worldforpets.com.au which is the RSPCA superstore, they definitely sell them in their store. If you can't find them on the website, just email Annette who runs the store (her email will be on the website) and she will be able to send you one if you'd like.

My little dog Penelope (a "designer"... stunner. She's a "foxidoodle" you see. What a lovely designer dog, fox terrier x poodle! Who could have thought of a better cross?) Anyhow, enough sarcasm, she spent 6 MONTHS in a glass box before being handed over! 4 weeks is really quite optimistic. -
I believe that one doesn't open until next year?

My favourite part of that story is the line about the chihuahua trying to bite the man as he ran away. Go little dog, go! Hope he's found soon!

I don't want to get into a Greencross debate, but it's worth considering that Greencross have bought out dozens of vet practices and hospitals all over the country, including some businesses owned and operated by older vets who have been running their practices for decades and who have stayed on. I don't think it's as easy as saying they are "generic" just because they are under a label, when some of their vets have been in the same practices for many years. I think finding a good vet comes down to the individual veterinary practice and staff and their personal ethics, not their label, in my oppinion. As I have said before, I work for Greencross, just as a locum nurse, but I'm not trying to speak for bias. But within the Greencross label there are some amazing vets who I've gotten to know, one in particular has been operating in the same building with the same client base for more then 20 years, he just now has a Greencross label on his practice. I've heard some on here have had bad experiences with Greencross which is unfortunate of course and if I had a bad experience with a vet I too would never return my pets to their practice, but I have worked alongside some very very good vets within the Greencross group, so am a little sad to see some write them off completely.

I have two little dogs about 5 kilos each - medium energy chihuahua/terrier mixbreed rescues. Would one whole chicken frame each be too much to feed them?
