The Importance Of A Kennel's Name
poodlemum replied to Summersaint's topic in General Dog Discussion
The very first Poodle I ever had was named Rana so the prefix, when time came to choose it, was Myrana -
so many people don't realise this - they think a toy Poodle is just a shrunken Standard Pity you don't live around here Fru Fru Or in East Gippsland!!!
-
Same here - I love my dogs & could never imagine being without a dog. I love cats too but, unfortunately, Mr.Poodlemum is allergic so not puddy tat for me I don't like any reptiles & not a fan of vermin, either.

The latest one should be enough.

Welcome!!! I have been breeding Standard Poodles for nearly 20 years & have never shown. I think part of the reason people advise you to show your dogs before breeding is to get them "known" - I certainly found it a wee bit harder sometimes to place puppies as I was not know in the showring (I did quite a lot of Obedience, though). Over the last 2 years, a bitch I bred was being campaigned in the showring and I went to quite a few shows, including the Poodle Nationals in March. It's good fun & most of the people are friendly.

Thanks for that - are they the same size? I've just had a look at some of the KC listings here on DOL & they do look quite different in the face. I've only ever seen Cavaliers IRL.

The OP seems to be in Victoria, where I believe there is some sort of exam (I got my prefix nearly 20 years ago, so I'm not up with the latest requirements) Yes, Gretel, I noticed that too - very puzzling. for a numpty like me, what is the difference between King Charles & Cavalier? I see/hear a lot of people talk as though they are one breed (usually the same ones who say Maltese TERRIER ).

Hmmm - I can see why you are doubtful - seems very strange to me that a Registered breeder knows so little about dog behavior.

((((((((Fordogs)))))))) Penny is feeling much better, though the drain they put in didn't even last the night. It was hanging out this morning so took the stitch out, she slept on my bed so fairly certain she didn't pull it out. Pups are weaned, have stopped the Divetlact for the next couple of days and they will just be having mushy dried food to try and clear up their loose stools. Glad Penny is better - please give her big hugs from me.

Dangerous Dog On The Loose - Thornleigh, Nsw
poodlemum replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in General Dog Discussion
Might be the best thing for him - sorry, I don't think DA dogs should be allowed to live -
Chipped collar bone from tripping over a Poodle, black eye from an over-enthusiastic GSP, badly gashed leg from being dragged by another ratbag Poodle into a sharp edge of decking Not to mention arms covered in tiny little scars from many needle-sharp puppy teeth

What To Look For When Visiting A Breeder?
poodlemum replied to gtjell's topic in General Dog Discussion
The suggestions to check out the breed & get references are in no way meant to make you feel bad - I was very lucky when choosing my breed that I had a friend who had a Poodle (albeit a Mini) so I had some idea of what the breed was like and was even luckier to be referred to New Zealand's top breeder of Standard Poodles (and ended up getting 4 dogs from her over the years. I'm sure there's a thread on here for Shih Tzus - go on there & ask advice, if it's anything like the Poodle thread they will welcome you with open arms & give you heaps of good advice. I don't know much about Shih Tzus except that I have seen a few at Obedience Trials & they are great little dogs -
What To Look For When Visiting A Breeder?
poodlemum replied to gtjell's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well, at least if the breeder is listed on DOL you know that they ARE registered. However, DOL listing doesn't automatically guarantee that they are ethical etc. Have you spoken to other people who have the same breed, has the breeder given you any references from past puppy buyers? What breed is it? -
Southern Cross Animal Stars train at WoofPurNay vet centre at Narre Warren North - huge indoor area. Evening classes as well as Saturdays and Sundays. Berwick Obedience Club, also at Narre Warren. You could look at all their websites for more info. I joined Berwick Obedience Club when I lived in Menzies Creek - I found their training methods VERY strange - they also seemed to be an unfriendly, cliquey bunch Useless training your dog there if you are considering trialling at all. Can you elaborate on 'VERY strange'. I've never been a member of Berwick but I've been debating whether to join the club for some time, not for basic training but to do trial ring practices and maybe a bit of agility. Looking at it from the point of view of someone who had been an Instructor & was possibly interested in trialling again, the training was useless - no check chains, dogs not taught to heel etc. Also, there was a LOT of standing around doing nothing while the Instructor was schmoozing with her favourite students and dogs . She didn't like Poodles (hey, not everyone does, I know) and seemed to make up her mind from the start that Harrison wouldn't be any good.

Ear Infection - Narrow Ear Canal - Ear Flush...
poodlemum replied to Lindainfa's topic in General Dog Discussion
That does sound expensive. My boy Niki had chronic ear problems and my Vet suggested flushing the ears out. I can't remember now how much it was, but nothing like you've been quoted . It did fix the problem, though, so I can recommend it if you can find someone who will do it for a REASONABLE price. -
Aww they're so cute! Are they moving around much yet? I woke up to puppy squeals this morning. They tend to squeal when Mango gives them a clean. Such a sweet little noise to wake up to They're getting around quick now, as soon as Penny gets in the box it's like a herd of elephants. They bark and growl now, it's cute, but not at 3 in the morning. I remember that so well - that herd of puppies galloping across the whelping box!

I have had 2 cats die of renal failure - no signs until they were too sick to do anything but PTS. Please don't beat yourself up about this I am so sorry for your loss

I originally joined the to advertise in the breeder's section, as I had a litter of puppies at the time, and then discovered the forums, particularly the Poodle thread

Only A Dog Person Will Understand....

My husband says that I would sell him to pay for things our dogs need. He's probably right *cough* and that's wrong , HOW?? -
Thanks Alkhe ....I'm sure if your breeder is anything like me that they would love getting your photos, & yes it is very reassuring for the breeder that a pup they have bred & raised is so happy & loved. I tell all my puppy owners when they pick up their puppy that the more photos they send me the merrier. I especially love getting pics when they have matured, its lovely to see how they turn out. x2 - I LOVE hearing from people who have my puppies & enjoys the photos, as well.
