Unable To Keep Dog Thats Under A Contract
poodlemum replied to pinkpuppy's topic in General Dog Discussion
well we all cant live off hugs and kisses now can we?...and i said above in a different context. If I were a breeder, and it was my own puppy, money wouldn't be the issue, id refund, and guess what... I have! I have found out before, after people have paid me money that they weren't suitable and I have sent their money back, happy to get rid of them... i wouldnt be fighting over it because there are way to many good homes out there! so really if money wasn't important to this breeder...then she would pay for the dog, as I have done and then either keep her or sell her oh PLEASE tell me you are not a registered breeder - if you are, well -

pinkpuppy, I have found the perfect dog for you - this one will not bark or dig up your yard - you sound like the buyer any breeder would run a mile from I just pity the poor puppy you have probably condemned to going from home to home & ending up in the pound because YOU could not take some time from your precious little life to care for and train it -
Why? It scares me to see dogs obviously bred & trained to rip into people. Also, I find the cropped-ear thing hideous - it's obviously done to make the dogs looks even more frightening.

Hence some unexpected problems in breeds we would like to think of as gentle: the cocker rage syndrome, and more recently, appearance of aggressive golden retriever lines. There are also a very very few breeders who prefer the pup that shows aggression at an early age and keep them for breeding purposes. Google bandog or bandogge and you'll find some breeders who'll scare the pants off you. I wish there were a way of directing the hysteria about dangerous dogs toward these people. http://bandogmastiffs.blogspot.com/ Check it out! Certainly scared the bejeebus out of me

- reminds me of my boy, Niki - his "real" name was Nikita, he usually got called Niki-Bear but when he was in trouble it was "Nicholas Edward Bear" An Obedience Instructor once told my (ex) husband that you shouldn't call a dog by a nick-name, as the dog would get confused. Yeah, right

Great to hear - we love you, Charlie!!

Groomer In Norther Suburbs Of Melbourne

Or K9 Design in Reservoir - Sharon Hill is an excellent groomer and has great rapport with dogs! http://www.truelocal.com.au/business/k9-design-studio/reservoir -
This The important thing is your memories of her - she lives on through them. I loved my Niki-bear more than anything but, when he died, I knew his body wasn't HIM - he is still with me in my thoughts, and that's what is important to me.

I sold a puppy to a person who was the very public face of an organisation with which I totally disagree! I didn't realise it until I met her in person, having had a few chats on the phone with her. I decided that the fact she believed so vehemently in a cause which I did not mean she wouldn't give the puppy a good home.

Kintala Puppy School - Anyone Been There?
poodlemum replied to ArchieTheHusky's topic in General Dog Discussion
I used to be an Instructor at Warringal Dog Obedience Club (at LaTrobe Uni in Bundoora) it's only a 20 minute drive from Yarrambat, so less from South Morang. -
Kintala Puppy School - Anyone Been There?

Have you had a look at David Weston's book? I believe Kintala base their training methods on it. It makes a lot of sense to me but, when I was Obedience training my dogs it was partly with the aim of Trialling, and Kintala's methods are not suitable for that. Certainly when I was an instructor I based my lessons on positive reinforcement. -
way to go people - another newbie no doubt put off DOL forever by the resident know-it-all B*tches

As far as I know they are both desexed. I know what you mean about very dominant bitches - my foundation bitch was, as I've mentioned, very dominant & would even occasionally have a go at her (much larger) son!
-
Thanks everyone. I received another email from her today & I think she is getting resigned to the idea of re-homing one. I certainly sympathise with her - I have had the experience of having to re-home a lovely girl, whom I loved very much - she was just causing too much chaos in the household. I've known people who've had 2 bitches living together quite happily but I usually advise puppy buyers who want littermates to get a male & a female - less chance of trouble that way (providing they are both desexed, of course).
-
A friend of mine got 2 litter sister Standard Poodles - they are now 16 months old, both de-sexed (I think) and have started having dominance issues. She has asked my advice on how to deal with this but I've rarely had 2 bitches together - my foundation bitch was VERY dominant & would not tolerate another bitch in the household. I did, at one time, have 2, but they were about a year apart in age & got along together ok (I only had them both for about 6 months). My gut feeling is to advise her to re-home one of the girls - they had a recent fight which got pretty serious. Has anyone else had this problem and, if so, how was it resolved?
-
Agree with that, Poodlefan - all Standard Poodles are beautiful, of course :D but I've seen better-looking ones in the showring here!
-
This I have been breeding Standard Poodles for nearly 20 years - could not imagine having so many dogs - if your dogs are not part of your family & the litters personally overseen by you then, in MY opinion, you are a Puppy Farmer
-
Can totally relate to your thoughts here, Kaffy - Mr.Poodlemum knows that my boys are very important to me - even when they cause me stress I would not be without them.
-
That sounds like EXCELLENT advice! Be proactive, rather than reactive & it will ease your (understandable) anxiety considerably.
-
Not such wholesale destruction, but took a little more than a clean-up to fix this!

Does that mean you'll call my doggies Kelps? I have to say that the habit of shortening/adding 'y' to things does my OH's head in. He's Canadian and after being confronted with numerous Australian shortenings like postie etc, he asked me witheringly if Australians called the plumber the plumbie :p Tangent ... the whippet discussion made me look up the Chinese word for whippet because Chinese always has interesting translations of things (cinema is electric shadows etc). 小灵狗 is whippet - means small dog of great spirit/alertness/efficiency. Poor Kelpie, didn't even get its own name. See here, they transliterated it so that the name is Ka Er Bi Dog which is Kelpie spelled out in Chinese :p Border Collie is 边境牧羊犬 Border Sheep Herding Dog Rhodesian Ridgeback ended up being 罗德西亚背脊犬 - Rhodesian Back Dog Labrador is 拉布拉多寻回犬 La Bu La Dor Retrieving Dog ... My favourite though has to be the Chinese word for poodle 贵宾犬 ... which translates as expensive/costly/valuable guest/visitor dog! Clearly poodles are highly regarded Hmm - would have to agree with that I absolutely LOATHE the term "Spoo" - sounds like a DD to me. My OH refers to the boys as "The Poodillians" or "The Flying Poodleini Brothers"

That is so interesting - what sort of personality differences are there? I've often wondered if colour has anything to do with personality. The blacks tend to be more energetic & , sometimes, a bit stand-offish. The whites/creams are very laid-back & snuggly. This is something I have observed in ONE particular line of dogs which I have had for 30+ years, I don't say it's necessarily the case for ALL Standard Poodles. :D
-
In the line of Poodles I have had over the years I have only bred black or white/cream. I found that most puppy buyers wanted black (because they don't get dirty ) but, strangely enough, I have found that the white/creams have a quite different personality from the blacks and I prefer the lighter colours.
