  1. There are some gorgeous Parti or Harlequin Standards in the USA - there's a few videos on YouTube of Harlequin Standards
  2. So do I - isn't this a PUREBREED forum?
  3. I have also posted the link on the Poodle thread
  4. & it's now over 100! I have joined the group & sent the link & a message to my friends
  5. for the DOL community - I am happy to donate for the Domain Name, if anyone's starting a collection. Leo's story touch me very deeeply and moved me to tears, not least because he's a Poodle.
  6. I don't understand - if you're not intending to show the dog, what's the problem with getting one on Limited Register a bit cheaper? There are not many breeders on DOL so, if you don't like their dogs, your other option would be import from overseas, but that A LOT more than buying a Main Register dog from an Australian breeder!
  7. Poodles can get what I always call "gungy eye" - bathe the eye with saline &, if the eye is irritated, use can use Brolene eye drops
  8. Is that your Standard in your avatar? If so, the problem could be the woolly face! It's better to keep the face clipped short, as the excess wool can irritate the eyes.
  9. I couldn't get the video to work but I don't see the problem with dyeing Poodles - it's done here
  10. I only have boys now But is the past have had Sascha, Sally & Sophie (so named by her breeder because she was born on the sofa )
  11. I have used this method for advertising puppies and, as someone else said, it resulted in a few puppies being sold to locals, meaning I got to see the puppies occasionally after they left my home. I usually just had some photos, basic information and a contact phone number. I also had posters up in the Vet clinis which worked really well - the Vet loved my dogs & would recommend them to anyone who asked.
  12. Was the person who abused you a qualified groomer? The Poodle coat, which is wool, DOES insulate them against the heat to a certain extent, but I still have mine clipped down in summer, just not shaved to the skin! My friend, who is a groomer with over 20 years experience, clips her Maltese short in summer because they get heat stress if the coat is left long. Sounds like the person you spoke to didn't really know what she was talking about!
  13. You can have them set in gold, now. hehe - my Dad (who was a Dentist) did this with my oldest brother's 1st baby teeth - made a pair of earrings for my mother
  14. :dancingelephant: :champagne: :happydance: Have a POODLEICIOUS day I know these threads are usually in OT, but we seldom see you there!
  15. Yes! You've come to the right place. Apart from the fact that many reputable breeders list their litters on Dogzonline, the forum is a great place for helpful advise in choosing the right puppy -
  16. STILL waiting for my Teacup Standard
  17. Closest I can find is Warrnambool http://www.dogsvictoria.org.au/Clubs.asp?ClubID=420
  18. I might agree - but it puts many people off becasue they think that is how poodles look - when poodles don't look froo-froo in their natural state. The whole DD thing has really taken off because people want a poodle that doesn't look like a poodle I'm sorry but if ones decision to purchase a particular breed of dog is based entirely on the fact that is has a particular haircut in a very specialised environment like the show ring - then you really shouldn't be buying any dog. You should be looking for a breed of dog that meets your requirements in terms of, temperament, grooming, exercise, need for training and socialbility with people and or other dogs. Personally - I think the poodle that escapes being part of such a shallow family is a lucky poodle. A poodle left in "its natural state" would quickly become matted and in this climate probably suffer from fly strike. Yes you can let a poodles hair grow but it has to be groomed often as does any low shedding dog. Going off to take Mr Frou Frou for a walk!!!! WELL-SAID
  19. So great to hear about Leo again, Ambervale. I'm sorry you are going through some tough times - at least you have the "Poodle cuddles" for comfort.
  20. Not always the breeders fault, though, the "continental" clip is the common show coat - I would LOVE to see poodles shown in "sporting" or "lamb" clip - they look like REAL dogs. THIS is not a "fooffy" poodle
  21. Maybe not exactly the site you are thinking of, but a good laugh, all the same: http://www.ebolamonkeyman.com/
  22. And I will chain myself to a suitable edifice in support. The French may have popularised the smaller poodles and are largely credited for developing the white poodles but they are German in origin. Even the name is a derivative of the German "pudel". That was my understanding as well. Now when I think of it, the country in the FCI listing is not the country of origin, but the country that maintain the standard. Tibetan breeds are listed under UK. To plagarise Sting, the Russians love their poodles too. They get the credit for developing the browns. Chances are any small dog in a Russian city scene may well be a poodle. Vladimir Putin owns one.. as did Katherine the Great. Some bloody gorgeous poodles there. Thanks, PF - now I can't get that damn song out of my head
